It's funny in retrospect hearing about how the game became like a post-apocalyptic wasteland around this time, because this is when I first started getting into the game and attended my first locals. My locals were always underpopulated and full of casual players, and I had always assumed that was just because there was no competitive scene in my area. Turns out most competitive players just abandoned the game a couple months before I started lol.

I remember the old Dino-rabbit combo being using Gold Sarc, banish Rabbit, then normal Tour Guide into Leviar to bring back the Rabbit you just banished. Banish Rabbit for 2 dinos, then Lagia/Dolka (typically Lagia). Then set backrow and pass. That was a fairly strong opening and if the opponent doesn't get rid of the leviar, you have another use of Rabbit next turn. Going second means you can probably attack with the vanilla dinos too!

Yo that’s such a sick combo
25:06 Ok so this play is actually illegal, but honestly this ruling is easy to forget so I don't blame anyone for not knowing/forgetting it. Normally, SEGOC (simultaneous effects go on chain) follows this specific order when determining what trigger effects get activated first: Turn player mandatory, non-turn player mandatory, turn player optional, and non-turn player optional. If you have multiple effects that would activate that follow under the same category, the person whose effects they are gets to chose the order in which they activate. HOWEVER, this was not always the case. Prior to somewhere in 2017, if you had multiple mandatory effects that had to activate in a new chain due to just meeting their triggers, the order they would activate in was actually first dictated by whether one of those cards met its trigger first. THEN if any met them at the same time the turn player could choose. Since MBT tributed Tengu for Caius, Tengu's trigger was met BEFORE Caius'. This means that in the following chain, Tengu's effect should have been chain link 1 and Caius' should have been chain link 2, meaning Cimo could have negated Caius' effect with Dolkka.
@GamingManMike
2 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought as well. This sequencing could also mess up when... you can effects. For example, Witch of the Black Forest + Red Rising Dragon, summoning back Red Resonator. Witch would be chain link 1, and Red Rising would be chain link 2, summoning back Red Resonator, then Witch searches. Since Witch search is the last thing to happen, the player misses timing of Red Resonator, therefore unable to gain life points. Gotta love Yugioh sometimes :P

25:10 in modern rules chain blocking works like that but b4 mr4 chains work slightly differently. For multiple mandatory effects they must go in the order in which they reach their triggers on field (which is stupid and thankfully changed when links came along) In this situation tengu was tributed so It would be cl1 ciaus activates on field and would be cl2 dolkka cl3 and I assume mbt scooping cl4
I think in game 2 I would have tried to use Grand Mole to bait out the Doomcaliber Knight, it was a better option I feel than setting Level 4 monsters and having them get run over since Doomcaliber Knight is mandatory negation.

@@jadegrace1312 howso? His OG post was correct, and no one says priority meaning phase priority unless they are talking about a ruling. Effect priority is what was the concern here. I don't see how him saying effect priority is in the garbage where it belongs contributes to bad players being bad. Also, the way you say this is biased and uninformed. Yugioh players understand effect priority, they don't understand the resolution of effects/summons. For example, in mtg a card is a spell until it is a permanent, but that isn't the way it works in yugioh. In mtg it is common sense that countering a planeswalker will prevent effect priority, but because in yugioh it doesn't work like that, yugioh has something called the "summon response window" on the resolution of the summon. This makes effect priority after inherent summons confusing.
@jadegrace1312
2 жыл бұрын
@@AngelNearDestruction No, see, this is exactly what I am talking about with yugioh players not understanding priority. The original commenter was definitely incorrect, as they stated that priority doesn't exist anymore, when it does. Priority is crucial to how card games are played as it determines who can do what at what time. There's no such thing as "phase priority" or whatever, there is just priority. Also, I understand all about how cards resolve in magic and in yugioh, as I have played both for many years. Also I have no clue why you mentioned the summon response window.
Before I continue wachting this. 12:59 if you look at this hand and think it's bad then you propably don't have much experience with Dino Rabbit. Because the main reason Gold Srac was used in here is because of Leviair. Banish Rabbit with Gold Sarc, use Tourguide to special summon Leviair. Now you can actually special summon your Rescue Rabbit straight from your deck thanks to Gold Sarcophagus. It was the first deck in this games history that exploited Gold Sarc to such a degree. Besides maybe DAD Return

MBT is not allowed to chain block with Caius @ 25:16 this is because back then you weren't allowed to change the order between field/GY. Mandatory grave effects> Mandatory Field effects> Optional Grave effects> Optional field effects. This change wouldn't be made until MR4 where you can change the order between any mandatory effect with any other mandatory effect, and optionals with other optional effects.

@EmptyThrone it was definitely the format. It is regarded as a worse format than DaD to the point where A LOT of people quit the game because the game lost versatility, and when only 3 decks are dominating a format with one of them ripping cards from your hand first turn and another being able to pop 2 cards first turn and then potentially your entire board after that was infuriating especially with how much effort you went through to set-up a board. Dragons Collide SD was created a way for budget players to be able to play the game more competitively and BOY did it work! Lots of AMAZING reprints in Charge of the Light Brigade, Lyla, Ryko, RedMET. Cards Like Eclipse Wyvern for consistent searching, DaD even?! Light Pulsar, Chaos Sorc? At a time where BLS was unbanned and was only like a 50-60$ card at the time? Extra deck was pretty cheap too in Void Ogre, Black Rose (to a lesser degree), Stardust, Colossal Fighter, and some few cheap rank fours to run. Zenmaines was probably your biggest money card (tour guide was not a needed addition to this deck and effect veiler being a 10$ card at the time due to its reprint was also nice) That structure deck was a gold mine for budget players.

Cimo failing to recognize the otk of Dino Rabbit with Rescue Rabbit and Tour Guide, as long as you didn’t have any vanillas in hand. Also, I didn’t know the player base took a dip this bad in this format. It’s one of my most favorite formats of Yugioh and I love this style of gameplay.

How do you OTK with Dino Rabbit?

@@SoggyWaffles. rabbit effect, get 2 Kabazauls. Make Laggia, set back row and pass. You stop their plays. You then go Tour Guide eff, make Leviair. Get Rabbit and use Rabbit to get 2 Sabersaurus. 2400+1800+1900+1900= exactly 8000

@@thefirstsurvivor the damage is all done in one turn though. Remember, FTK and OTK are different. OTKs can be set up on one turn and executed the next turn, and since the damage is all in one turn, it’s still an OTK

@@stevenashley27 that is not how an otk works. An otk is established and executed in the same turn or else it is not an otk. Also has nothing to do with the difference between otk and ftk. Ftk is just specifically during the first turn and normally involves burn or other win cons.
I still remember pulling two of these the day after release and immediately selling them for $250.
It was the gold sarc into rabbit with your guide making levianair which made the deck oppressive if you don't out it levianair will just bring back the rabbit again, said we didn't see that
This hell was roughly when I started playing competitively...what a time that was.
Cimo: Mains Jurrac Guaiba Me, a Jurrac fan who mained that deck for 9 years (Yep): Woohoo! Also, one thing Cimo missed out on with that decklist (assuming it wasn't just directly ripped from whoever played it at Brighton, in which case this'll be directed to them), is that he could have included one or two copies of a Jurrac tuner, preferably Jurrac Dino in this instance, i think (Its the biggest one, and has a draw 2 eff that comes up if you brick), that could be grabbed off of the Guaiba, allowing him to actually use the synchro monsters he's got in the Extra deck (Since as far as I can tell, he hasn't actually got any tuners, unless he's planning on mind controlling one of Joseph's).
the reason it lost many people to cardfight vanguard is because vanguard is alot of fun

You are aware though that after he used Gold Sarc he shuffeld his Deck right? His next draws would have been different, hadn't he used avarice, but at that point it didn't matter anyway, because Cimo was so behind.

@@Andy4995 Yes, what Adderflail said. Upon playing Gold Sarc, his next three draws would have been Kabazauls and double Solemn Warning, none of which were the Pot of Avarice he was hoping to hard draw instead.
I wouldn't mind watching a history of vanguard if the yugioh series came to an end
Speaking of Vanguard, still playing it to this day. Really love the game.
I was still playing Skill Drain Heroes during this format (If you even want to call it that, with the 3 Alius and Stratos being it...), and let me tell ya, hitting my sided-in Super Poly against Laggia to make Nova Master was a feeling I wish I could experience again. Macro Rabbit was disgusting.
cimo forgetting how to play in game 2 after being shocked for not being able to cheat with Guaiba
While I am happy (-ish) to see the craziness of 2012 unfold again (aka Inzektor, Wind Up, Dino Rabbit supremacy is upon us), I am slightly sad we never saw in 2011 the Formula Monarch variant of Frognarch. Anyone else remember that deck? I remember my region having it at every local and regional I was at. -Ryu
Didnt know that so many players quit, but funnily enough, me and a lot of friends quit back then, I did in January 2012. Trust me, this format sucked ass. Took me 5 years to come back to Yugioh

Going to a local that had a ton of competitive players when u r a teenager sucked ass during this time. Didn't really come back to Yu-gi-Oh until the Arc-V era.
Oh man we're slowly approaching D-Rulers
Tengu is mandatory when it leaves field so its always chain link one just like heiratic seal in dragon link currently
Dino rabbit is one of the decks of all time
I remember ycs Brighton. I was a 12 year old kid with a masked beast ritual deck. Played in a side event. Never been so traumatized in Yu-Gi-Oh at that point or since. Dino rabbit after Dino rabbit after Dino rabbit 😭
Alternative title to Yu-Gi-Oh guys have their soul slowly sucked out of them
I don't know if it was mentioned but another reason people hated this deck (as usual) was the price tag Each Tour Guide and Rabbit was around $100 each The deck in full was probably $1200+
5:30 imo it was the Dino rabbit deck that completely shaped yu-gi-oh! to a "I put X omni/negates on the field and protect everything with traps from my hand, your turn" and that pretty much ended my relationship with yu-gi-oh! since it was no longer good to only go +1 or in certain scenarios go +2 now it was just flood the board - initially starting with only 1 card in your hand. You go into a million special summons and searches, basically every card does the same thing, just the artwork in the cards change. Also, I can't remember clearly but I think that started the age of the hand traps somehow. So any rabbit, tourguide, debris dragon, guaiba was just bad and your turn was shut down by one single hand trap. Lots of 1 for 1 trades but also the big finishers like BLS or a powerful synchro monster, now it's 3-5 insanely broken synchro/xyz/link cards with 5-6 solemn judgments attached? WTF
To be fair the meta evolved past it but it does feel like it has been played while slowly adapting set by set since 2004
tbh, i'm more familiar with 2012 chain rules than modern ones ^^
Oh cool I always wanted PTSD from this format
