Raggedy Ann & Andy Voice Comparison - part 1: Raggedy Ann

Ойын-сауық

Since no one's done a voice comparison of the animated version of the famous ragdoll made in 1915, Raggedy Ann, I decided to make this video a thing.

Didi Conn Did the Best Version of Raggedy Ann. Her voice is so clumsy, yet with charm and innocence. Her voice in the movie is the voice of a kind, sweet Ragdolly. Not to mention she is sweet as pie in the movie. There's no better version of Raggedy Ann. No sassy nature or attitude, just genuine cuuriosity and care for others around her, giving big hugs, and smiles all around, as she's concerned about everyone's well being. I Love Raggedy Ann.

Here is my ranking of the voices: 1. Didi Conn - Her voice is just perfect! It captures an innocent, wide-eyed, and very kindhearted Raggedy Ann. She sounds really sweet and is the best of the voices here! 2. Cecil Roy - Her voice sounds really sweet and I really think it fits nicely with the character! I think it sounds like a really good voice for a doll to have. 3. Joyce Terry - Same with Cecil, her voice also fits really well with Raggedy Ann and it captures her kindness and caring personality. 4. June Foray - She has a sweet voice and it is nice with the character, but I personally think it sounds a little too old at times. 5. Emma Whibley - I'm not really a fan of her or Christina's voices but I slightly prefer Emma's. Not a bad voice, but it just sounds like your generic little girl. 6. Christina Lange - It's not a bad voice but I personally think it just sounds like a generic little girl and doesn't really capture Raggedy Anne's personality.

I'd like to mention that the actors for the musical did a great job too! Ivy sounded the most like Didi out of all of them, even if she had a little more spunk and jazz to her.

I think that all the voice actresses are very talented and did a great job but Didi Conn is my absolute favourite. Her voice suits the character so well that I can’t imagine Ann sounding different, even reading the books. The latest versions sound more like a average little girl, Didi’s version sound more like I imagine a rag doll would sound, her voice is soft and... comfortable to listen to... I think? I don’t know, her interpretation of Annie makes me happy. I also love the personality she brings to the character; Ann is sweet, everybody knows that, but 1977’s version sounds so much sweeter and caring. I really love her, she’s a sweetheart :)

Here's my ranking of Raggedy Ann doll voice: 1st Place ~ (Didi Conn) is the best voice actress of Raggedy Ann, as her sweet voice catches the attention of every child that would think of her as innocent, well-hearted dolly and loving. It really fits on her on movies and tv shows. 2nd place ~ (Cecil Roy) is also the best of voice acting of Raggedy Ann, she sounds like wendy from peter pan or for old version of raggedy ann, i like it as much of her american accent still keep on since 1915-1964. 3rd place ~ (Christina Lounge) is also the best, she has a sweet young voice, i think its best for series i guess. (And for the rest i disliked it, sometimes the voices cracks and not good enough to the character or too much for the character.)

Joyce Terry is my #1 from this list, seeing as I grew up watching Enchanted Square and it’s one of my favorite vintage cartoons of all time, but Ivy Austin had the best voice in my opinion. Not only was her voice charming and sweet with the little touches of raggedy-ness, but her physical movements too.

    1. Didi Conn: Conn's voice fits Ann so well! That voice proves that Raggedy Ann is a good and sweet friend that looks forward to good things in life. Besides, the emotion with her voice is so pretty. This is the Raggedy Ann we want! 2. June Foray: Foray's voice for Ann... It's so cute. I think it fits her well. The emotions she had with the voice is so cute, and I can hug that Ann when's sad with that voice. So, so cute. 3. Joyce Terry: Her voice is nice and fitting. It has a classic feel and fits Raggedy Ann well. So cute like Foray's. 4. Christina Lange: Her interpretation isn't too bad, but it was nice and cool-sounding. It fits her personality really well with the character in the version. She does sound a bit screamy in that one, but I think she still does a pretty good job. 5. Cecil Roy: Not as good as Terry's, but it still sounds cute in her way. The main flaw is that it sounds a bit deeper than the other. 6. Emma Whibley: Whibley's was alright, but this one is a bit deeper and too neutral in some ways, which kind of lacks what the character is supposed to sound like. That's why I don't like it as much as the rest.

The first versions of Raggedy Ann & Andy that I ever knew about were the ones from the 1988 cartoon show: The Adventures of Raggedy Ann & Andy. I probably have the whole series in DVD form at this point (except for the Christmas special). I remember getting all the DVDs back in 2016 when I was with my mom at the store. The TV that was in my room couldn't really play anything other than DVDs at the time, so what I had is kinda what I got for the time being. I still have all the DVDs, actually! _They're with the rest of my DVDs in the basement-_ And I loved the HECK out of those DVDs. They were fun to fall asleep to and rewatch! Sure, some of the villains had terrible designs (looking at you, Tic and Tac) but it still always had a sense of charm to it!

I best remember Didi Conn as Stacy Jones on Shining Time Station, the show that introduced North American audiences to Thomas the Tank Engine. Conn even reprised her role in the Thomas and the Magic Railroad movie, which marked the final appearance of Shining Time Station and three of its characters.

I love June Foray, but she's not Raggedy Ann. Didi Conn was a great Raggedy Ann, without a doubt; and it was a close call. But I think I'll go with the silky tones of the Enchanting Joyce Terry. She just sounds so much like a rag doll.

This is a tough choice. Part of me feels like I should nominate the OG Voice Actress Extraordinare June Foray for the #1 position, because she had so many memorable roles from my childhood. But now that I've seen the 1977 movie, I can say I'm impressed with Didi Conn.

I loved the Fleischer RA&A short film and the Enchanted Square. I've watched Suddenly it's Spring and didn't like it, not just because of racist depictions but because it is the most forgettable one.
