Rage Rage Against the Dying of the Light (HD)

Do not go gentle into that good night
(Dylan Thomas, 1914 - 1953)
(A little older, a little wiser, but happy to see you)
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
The wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning day
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
From the movie Interstellar (2014)
Director: Christopher Nolan
Writers: Jonathan Nolan, Christopher Nolan
Stars: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway

Its that rage against the unfairness of the universe that we are aware of our own impending deaths, and the death of the universe and reality itself. The sheer horror that nothing lasts, and all we can do is scream against it.

It means that only the strong and the strong minded people live longer and says that you shouldn’t let age take over you, Father Time is only getting closer to you, and you have to beat him. A prime example being Tom Brady.

This is honestly one of the greatest films ever made, it portends our own destruction. That which is imminent and ever closer. "Rage against the dying of the light".

I am a huge fan of this movie and some of the sequences are the best that cinematography ever produced. But the movie is flawed in some areas. The relationship between daughther and father is in parts unconvincing. And the premise on which the demise of mankind rests is more than feeble. Life exists on the planet for billions of years, it is not snuffed out like that. Even so, we would deploy all our resources to fix that not sending humans into space on the dim prospect to find and populate a new home planet.

portends? PORTENDS? It is a call, an ostantetiously anti-taciturn call to arms. You do know that the night is coming, you do not need to learn this fact, only to be ready for it and be the kindling for the dying light. You do not know what is and what isn't imminent, as is the nature of life, to submit and become subdued by the darkness is what the author despises and actively encourages you to fight against.

I've always interpreted this as accepting that we must think of ourselves as a species. We must conquer. We must expand. We must rage when the light fades for the survival of our species is the only and primal goal we must have. We as humans must do whatever we can to leave a mark on the universe. We must look outward and we must rage. We must rage against the dying of the light and the fading of the hope. We are here to live and we must make sure to survive.

Why rage against it when you could walk hand in hand with the dying of the light. Instead, we should be understanding that our time is accounted and we understand and accept one day we will shift planes.

Very symbolic how they specifically chose to you the wise men verse, and how 'they fork no lightning'. Essentially this is symbolic of how these wise men (Cooper and the gang) may die before they can let the world know / explore any inhabitable planets. This is evident near the end of the film when Cooper is falling through the null void of the black hole. He attempts to establish everything he is seeing as he passes through the event horizon, to TARS, but eventually communications cut-off once he gets to the library of his memories; not allowing any of his observations to be passed through. TARS even verifies their lack of capabilty to communicate such complex thought of a multi-dimensional reality. He forks no lightning, but this quote breaks at the very end when we see Cooper at the end. The audience is left to think that he will enlighten these new humans of his experiences... or people won't believe him.

“There’s just one story Marty” What’s that? “… light vs dark” Well I know we ain’t in Alaska, but appears to me the dark has a LOT more territory “Yeah… you’re right about that… but ya know… you’re looking at it wrong… sky thing…” How’s that? “Well once there was only dark… you ask me I’d say the lights winning.”

this poem described gargantua perfectly. A little older a littler wiser: Them on millers planet loosing time because of gargantuas gravity and Romilly having time to learn from gargantua. Rage Rage against the dying of the light: Cooper entering gargantua, which doesnt let light escape and the ranger beeing hit heavily hit. I hope i am at least right in some way.
