Rage Clean the Basement | Clear out the Clutter

Today we’re rage cleaning in the basement bc it rained for the third Saturday in a row…so I couldn’t host the yard sale!! I can’t control the weather but I can control cleaning out another section of the basement!!!

I know this won't be for everyone, but I no longer buy wrapping paper. There's plastic in it to make the images on it and it's not recyclable, plus I hate storing it. Now I smooth out and save packaging paper that comes in packages I buy, allot of it arrives with stuff I buy online to give as Christmas gifts. I didn't find reusing gift bags to be as satisfying as tearing open gift wrapping, so I just changed the gift wrap to something more sustainable! Sometimes I draw on it and I got ribbon so I can try and learn how to wrap gifts without using scotch tape. My family pulls off the ribbon and gives it back to me to reuse lol, it's cool cause we're all kinda weird 😂

Yes, I think we all can get jazzed up about a big project in our heads, buying all the little things before needed especially if you find them on sale or clearance. It helps build the happy anticipation of the future goal. The hard part is knowing which goal is truly attainable and worth putting the resources into. I like your idea of just "banking" the money back until needed then let that be your reward for reaching the goal.

I would say, maybe the rain was spot on, so to guide you towards this "rage clean", and this gave you the power, to do it fast, find additional stuff to add to the yard sell, and give you more strenght to decide more quickly what to do with the pictures. In the end, it all gives you more strenght. I believe it was meant to be:) Cheers and have to say-I extrelmy admire, how far you got every time, and what gigantic steps you make every time! And even, when they seem small to you-they are huge, as you are getting to know yourself, getting stronger, becoming an even better person, and helping every time more people? I can so relate to buying the pretty things in anticipation of using them. It is part of the dreamer in us and it feels like progress toward the goal even when it doesn’t really get us any closer. Better to save our money and watch it grow. So hard to do! Great job using your emotions to help you declutter today.

When 2024 started we finally decluttered things that had gone bad and stuff we don't use like quartz cleaning powder. It would have been too abrasive for the sink and shower. The only thing I stash now are bar soaps and dish soap. Somehow the stores where I live always have trouble stocking dish soap every 6 weeks.

If you have no plans for those clear storage containers, maybe you could check with your boys if they can store pokemon cards (sideways) in them? If they can, they could sort out their favourite sets into it, and maybe discover more cards that could be added to the yard sale? (No pressure, but they did seem to have a lot of cards). Having a box on a shelf with easy access to browse those cards would hopefully be more fun than having a huge drawer of mixed up ones. :)

I felt I had no choice being plus size and living below the poverty line. I sent most of it back because it didn't fit and/or was such poor quality, but I still have some regrets. I'm glad I have found good ways to shop secondhand now. Makes me feel so much better. Better for the environment and better quality clothing for a similar price. Me, too on the buying in anticipation of the organization, renovation, etc. I am training myself not to do it because SO often when the job’s actually done, my ‘pre-bought’ organizers and decor aren’t right for some reason. I only ever buy these anticipatory items on sale, but it’s no saving if I can’t use them as planned! Plus they clutter up the place until the work is done, and don’t seem to provide extra motivation. Good job using your frustrated energy to work on the basement! 👏👏👏🦄

The words I would use for the buying the items before you need it is buying things because of their usefulness potential. It's like craft supplies which have the potential to be made into so many beautiful things, but are in the stash waiting to be used. Organizers and office supplies are useful but until you need them, I try to avoid buying them. That way, I have less entropy preventing me from getting where I need to go by creating clutter obstacles.

Things I already own are boxed up and waiting for the things I can’t control though. I feel I can’t make myself go through my boxes until the change I can’t control happens. Living in limbo is one of the things I dislike the most. But it’s usually not a situation that is chosen.

I buy ahead of time because whatever is going to happen. Then I get home and either that thing doesn’t happen or I have what I need already!

I buy things before they are needed. Especially crafting supplies! I've been making junk journals and little folios. I purchased items that I plan on using in the future but don't need now. I also want to get into making miniatures. I've got a tool box full of things that I will need. I don't have the space to work on miniatures. I have to clean out my craft room first. I'm a hoarder also. I didn't think that I was. I thought things looked like they do because I don't have any storage in my home. I made some progress. The bathroom has been decluttered and the majority of the kitchen also. Now, I'm stuck. I have boxes that I need to donate but they are too heavy for me to move. I've asked for help but...

it's really hard to get out of the habit of buying things we don't really need, and understanding when we're buying to amuse ourselves. it's easy to say oh I'll pick up an extra box of snacks for my family when you actually have no plans to eat them, and if you didn't have them you have plenty of other things to eat. versus, well we're completely 100% out of toilet paper, I HAVE to buy that today! especially in grocery stores and places like Target it's easy to get caught up in putting stuff into the cart and when you get home you never take it out of the bag because you didn't really need it in the first place. You're not the only one! But I definitely just stay out of stores until I really honestly need something because I fully ran out, like shampoo or eggs or whatever. Ordering for pick up at Target helps, don't even walk around the store!

Buying things in hopes of using them…for your “fantasy self”. Asking are you buying something for the real you right now or a fantasy self (who might one day have an office to use, in this case) can help with that I find!

There will be a dry weekend, it’s just not the right time. I have done the pre buy with garden plants. Then I have to prep the area for the plants. Only I’ve waited too long and the plants die before I get them in the ground. At least your art supplies could be reused or given away. No one wants a dead 6 pack of flowers. 😭

Hello dear Ms Heart! I had this thought while watching the first half of the video. What if maybe that frustration from not being able to have the yard sale might be preparing you to donate the items that were to go in the yard sale instead? I know you enjoy them so that’s important too 💗, just wanted to share because you might find joy in having those items gone more quickly and moving forward with the basement. Just looking at it from a different perspective since I see how much you have healed and may want to move forward a different way. 💗 All the love and best wishes as you continue your adventure!!

How do you decide which items go in the yard sale, which items go to the town giving page, and which items go to a donation center?

As I got older, I'd do a lot of work getting ready for my yard sale, rain, never get back to yard sale and another year goes by and try again...I finally gave up and I donate, recycle, or trash all stuff. Tired of wasting time and energy.

You might be able to do a Mother’s Day yard sale. I know that may not be desirable but then again there might be people who love nothing more than that and some would want to take their mom thrifting on her day.

A lot of people in my area have garage sales during the week. Have you considered doing that, or do you need the guys around to help lift? (I only suggest this because of your surgery...not that you can't do it yourself ;))

Great Idea! I never heard of a yard sale during the week!! But yes, I need the boys to help me with all the lifting and carrying out! Those are the best days for now! There’s gotta be at least 1 dry Friday & Saturday this month…right?!! lol

Make sure you get the paint information off the can before you discard. I made this mistake. We had a hard time color watching. So hope that helps.

I am sorry about the weather delayed yard sale. i sort of wish you could move your attention to thegarage instead of the basement. if you get that clear3d thea you could do the sales inthe garage rair no rain? Yep, not to often byt i have gotten excited about an idea and shopped for it. Than no go. I suspect your handling money differently now with your no spend , etc.. will help this. OR you make such lovely spemding no soending charts, Maybe next time you have a great idea , you can release your excitement and calm the brain by drawing and graphing and listing what you might need. someday we will have a dry wekend. meanwhile in some areas i notice they are doing thursday -Satuday sales. when younger i sometimes released pent up anger or heavy emotions with some very hard cleaning. the release ooooooof enegy and the sense of accomplishment was quite soothing. so yes help your parnts. but other 'froends' no theyneed to lest or deal with their own stuff.
