I was not a cat person. My wife brought home a ragamuffin kitty. Ollie is his name. What a cool cat. He never "meows" he mumbles instead. He will walk around and "talk." So cute. I am recovering from an operation and a few times a day Ollie will come up to me and wait for me to pat my tummy. Then he climbs up on my tummy and lays on me as he purrs. Such a cool cat. 😎

@@the_best_username omg yes yes yes!!!! Do you feed a raw diet? We buy ollie good dry but I want to transition. Have you tried walking with a harness and clicker training? When ollie was a kitten we got him used to brushing teeth, clicker training, harness walking and nail cutting. It helped so much. We took in a feral cat about the same age and she still has yet to become acclimated to touch. Once I get home I can implement play/prey and reward. Hopefully, she will warm up to us. What is your kitty's name?

@@kg-Whatthehelliseventhat My family and I feed her kibbles and wet food, just like her (adoptive) brother who is a different breed. The kibbles brand we use is Royal Canin. We tried walking her before but she didn't like it very much. However she is a very active cat and she has lots of enrichment such as a cat tower and lots of toys and a brother cat to play with. She is still a kitten and she's used to brushing. We haven't tried to cut her nails because... they fall off on their own??? Heh. She's also very friendly so she doesn't scratch much. We haven't done clicker training. We actually got her from a family friend after their cat had kittens. We kept her original name, although it is a bit generic, it's a perfect fit. Her name is Snowy lol. Also, her and her brother have matching leg stripes even though they're not from the same cat parents or the same breed!

@@the_best_username that is so cute. Yes, that food is really good. I forgot the name until u said it. I got a small tub of water and little fish so ollie could get used to water. I let him play a few minutes a day. I want him to tolerate the bath when needed. I'm so happy for you. Have a great weekend.

My Fluffy found me. She was sitting in my carport one day when I got home from work. I gave her treats. And she promptly adopted us. 🥰 Coolest cat I've ever known.

Similar thing for my family, tho a little more depressing. A while back our House burnt down lost pets and everything, after the blaze died, the following day the kitty was in our backyard wandering around.

1 year update So.... my Ragamuffin is my best friend. I have taught Ollie many tricks and our daily walk is my favourite time of the day. This lil kitty totally helped me recover from surgery. I had to relearn how to walk and ollie helped me walk a bit more every day. I have become a great cat dad. We take ollie when we run errands. He gets so excited to go out. Yea sometimes he is lazy but once he gets out he has fun. I love my Ragamuffin

“Raggamuffins CAN jump high - if they sense food” LOL me too, me too.

The best pet I ever had was a stray ragamuffin that we adopted. I've never had a cat nor a dog that was so affectionate and cuddly before. I always adopt my pets, but if I were to ever choose a breed, this would definitely be the one.

Wow, this Ann Baker was completely nuts! I'm glad the breed survived through her nonsense. My cat is a Tuxedo Ragamuffin.

Don't forget how they meow day and night. Constantly.

We would never let ours outside on its own without being on her leash.

Mine is around 11 now, she’s been a great little fur thing

We adopted a cat out of a stray litter,she was very active,very soft fur,learned to play catch,and fetch.We searched many breeds to find what she may be,well a ragamuffin is what she may be!she pouts after we are gone at work all day,and goes straight to the toy cabinet when we get home!she requires alot of attention to be happy and we love her!she also loves to play a form of soccer with us,we think we found a perfect ragamuffin mix!

I have one, he is pretty good at keeping himself occupied with toys, hair tye or whatever but he occasionally likes to be held, he also enjoys using the garage as a hunting ground for insects or any other little rodents that try to sneak in. He will sleep next to us in bed. One of his bad traits is that he is TOO adventurous. Even with a catio he will sneak out the front door if given the opportunity and then proceed to panic and hide in a bush in the front yard meowing. He is also VERY clean and never messes in the house purposely and barely outside his litter box. I recommend these cats for anyone who wants a very well natured pet with a lot of patience. Pros: Very Patient and Friendly Very Clean Self sufficient Cute If given a lot of things to keep occupied they are pretty well behaved. Cons: Can be TOO adventurous and explore out of safe zones. Can be clingy Addicted to Temptations and Fancy Feast Meows for attention sometimes, (more like yowls). Sometimes you have to cut dingle berries out of their fur but happens rarely.

Nice review! I agree 100 % re the no messing indoors and generally very clean. They do need the nasal/eye discharge cleaned every or every-other day (use a clean, soft towel and WARM water). Ours didn't like this (neither would I😅) but it's a necessity, especially to keep the hair clean.

@@John-Andersen My little monster 👹 doesn’t get eye discharge but he does get nasal issues and will sneeze huge goobers into your face or laptop. That hasn’t happened for a long time though thankfully. Lol Thanks for the comment! ☺️

I got a tuxedo ragamuffin... 13 yo but is very healthy and youthful... super friendly

I’m convinced the stray kitten we adopted five years ago is part ragamuffin. She goes limp when you pick her up, she’s very vocal, and HAS to be with her people at all times. She walks on a leash, will play fetch, and has learned a few tricks. She’s a very big girl with a round head and big round eyes. Her fur is ultra fine and feels like a rabbit’s. The only thing is that her hair is a little shorter than most raggamuffins and her fur pattern is pale tortie/ calico.

I forgot to mention , she also feels it necessary to make bathroom trips with us and will go in her litter box while we, uh, do our business. We’ve been referring to this behavior as her “sympathy poops,” lol.

I adopted my ragamuffin from a hoarding situation when she was 5. That was 15 years ago! We’ve lived in 3 countries, and while she has a few health issues, considering her age, she is indeed quite hearty!

Thanks so much for all of this great info! A RagaMuffin ("RM") adopted my elderly parents in the ’90s and lavished my dad with love by tongue-grooming his bare feet. Naturally, Dad would giggle gleefully at this activity😊 We had never heard of the RM breed and I recently mistook them with a Highlander (no, NOT the Toyota 😅). After dad's passing my mom had me take him to our local "general critter" vet. When I asked him if knew our RM's breed he casually replied "All-American" 😊

My cat is a mix of a Siberian and a Ragamuffin, he is pretty much a Siberian physically with the temperament of a Ragamuffin and that's the cutest thing I've ever seen in my life

I got mine 12 years ago and I’ll probably never go with another cat breed. I’m a huge dog person but mine is so dog like I didn’t need a dog. Extremely vocal and affectionate. Only real downside is that he sheds a ton but if you have a sticky roller and a fine tooth brush you can’t even tell

Benchmark cats in Wisconsin was the one I used.

I just adopted a ragamuffin kitten from a respectable breeder. She’s adorable but does not like being alone at all. She insists on being anywhere I am, including the bathroom. If I leave, she cries. Is that normal for kittens? She’s 4 months old.

I have a ginger colour ragamuffin, he is 5 years old, 21 ish pounds. Here are some thngs about him 1. hates dogs 2. is terrified of men or tall/big people (deep voices too) 3. gets constipated when anxious 4. is pretty chill with people he knows 5. loves to be carried in a baby positing (belly up) 6. gets matts a LOT (i have to brush him 30min-1hr a week to avoid this) 7. makes weird noises 8. loves cuddling and attention in general 9. can jump pretty high when motivated to 10. only drinks running water

We had trouble with our girl getting constipated due to low water intake. It took us a while to figure out she wasn’t drinking from her water dish but would only drink from the shower after it was turned off since at the time it had a slight drip when it was turned off. Once we figured this out, we bought her a drinking fountain. It solved that problem.

When I was a young boy I thought Ragamuffins were a type of English baked good.

I couldn’t imagine spending $2300 for a kitten. Barely looking at all you can usually find them for free

FYI This breed is Huge, Loud and super picky! My moms cat is 20 yrs old and has always screamed A LOT, knocked over anything if he is mad or hungry (like shattered plates). The breed is also notorious for bad teeth and joint pain. Also since hes old and stopped grooming he has to be taken to A groomers every 2 weeks where he screams bloody murder like a shiba Inu since he hates the outdoors. Idk why they say their coats are easy to maintain when their not. They have an undercoat that can matte. My mom is in the hospital and Im a cat person but this cat does not like being in new environments or away from their chosen person. Ragamuffins can be seriously temperamental if not trained correctly so just be aware. People say their calm, like to be held and only somewhat vocal. That hasnt been my experience growing up w this cat just be aware every cat has its own personality despite being a specialty breed.

mine doesn't like to be friendly, he was abused when he was a kitty at 5 weeks only.

i had my cat for 9 years till he died :(
