Truly Divine Raaga .

What a rendition ! Sounds like listening to living Ma Durga. Meeta has a great and cultivated voice, no wonder she comes from a musical family. I wish her a great future. I was fortunate enough to listen to her rendition in Dover Lane Music Conference on 25th Jan night. God bless her

J N PONDA, T HE PHOENIX LIBRARY, PUNE 411030 World Space Radio it was which introduced her to me. Meeta Pandit's voice chirped on this gadget quite often. The menu Woirld Space offered was stupefying! It did a series on Begum Akthar which later appeared in a book form. Drupad Dhammar by Dagar brothers was a star attraction for me. World Space Radio was solid, real music. Not surreal like streaming music. Many a time I would turn the switch of this Radio on, relax on a chair with a book in my hand, (but not "thou beside me" and no Lord Bacchus in my hand), This was double relaxation. I could not then categorise Meeta Pandit's voice. A consummate artist! That's what I knew her as! She bade goodbye to me along with World Space Radio when it went broke after improving my health for couple of years! We meet again on you tube after many years! Thanks be to you tube!

The bowed instrument that is used for hindustani claasical music is called saarangi because it is so close to the human voice and the sarangi player can literally follow every gamaka, oscillation, etc that the singer sings

It takes years to achieve the bhav, teraw, in singing shastriya sangeet like meeta pandit here has achieved. one may know all the technicalities and aspects of singing hindustani music like singing the proper notes, singing all improvisations like alap, bol alap, behelawa,bolbaant, sargam, taan, singing in different taals like teental, jhaptal, ektal, tilwada, jhoomra, rupaktal,keherwa, dadra, dipchandi, tappe ke taal, singing different types of compositions such as khayal, tarana, dhammar, chathurang, thrivat, thumri, dadra, bhajan, abhang, shabad,, marathi bhavgeeth, chaithi, kajri, jhoola, rabindra sangeet ,nazrul geeti, etc... but it takes years to schieve bhav s and teraw

Very few Hindustani vocalists today sing with sarangi accompaniment because sarangi accompaniment is very very difficult to find. It was actually replaced with the harmonium. The harmonium is not even an indian instrument, but somehow it got adopted into indian music. Indian classical music purists actually do not prefer the harmonium because the harmonium cannot bring out gamaks, meends, and other subtleties of classical music.
