It was Feb 1985 & I was a seventh-grader and college basketball has always been one of my two favorite sports! Had never been to the Carrier Dome before when my stepfather got us tickets to see Syracuse play! I had already heard of the Pearl from the previous year when he hit his half court shot to beat BC! But cing him live was a whole other bag and the steering wheel like precision he showed on the court! To this day even being a lifer Duke fan getting to watch Dwayne Washington play up close was an honor and now that he's gone I've become more thankful of that game I got to watch him! You know full well the impact u have as a player when the game's greatest point guard ever (Magic) tributes that u we're the greatest ball handler he ever saw! Enough said! RIP Pearl and Godspeed! Especially for those of us who are old enough to remember when you broke ankles on a regular basis

Also wanna add his down to earthness! I remember Pearl would always deflect everything off of himself and it was all the time never wavered! U do c guys now like that but it's extremely rare! I see the total lack of ego with Zion today and I think of Pearl! He had that talent but also the respectful disposition to go along with it!
