Crystal Oscillator Accuracy I was asked to test the XCO on these receivers, please see the below results. Testing done with Aaronia Spectrum Analyser as per the Dev team process with a tone on 24,440,000Mhz and units tested cold and left to warm up and drift. RP1 - Tone at 2,440,002Mhz - 2khz positive offset - no major drift over time. RP2 - Tone at 2,440,022Mhz - 22khz positive offset - no major drift over time. Comparison with BetaFPV TX Micro 500mw Tx model hot . Tone at 2,439,869Mhz - 131khz negative offset - some minor drift over time. Increased from 126khz. As you can see when you compare this to the ELRS dev team chart the Radiomaster receivers are well with in spec. This is obviously based on a test sample of 2.

@Mads Tech Could you make a video sometime about the whole topic cause I am just partly sure what this is about. I guess you had mentioned that in a livestream with a chart and some radios and receivers with different offsets to the 2,44 which then could end in a mess if the combination gets out of spec. I had read that comment about the XCO and his complaints and therefore did a google search for 'xco elrs' with simply 0 result - therefore I am asking. I guess it is the general quality issue how precise and consistent the receivers / transmitter work together or if they are on the edge and could cause an issue depending on the transmitter and ambient temperature - which will be a lot harder to test considering that your bench might have 25°C in summer heatwave and 15 in winter, while built in it will face 50°C and more inside a plane in summer on the field. thanks

It is very informative about receivers. What about ELRS transmitter? I would like to see what offset and drift the oscillators of Radiomaster Zorro and TX16 II internal module have got. According to elrs dev XCO chart, vast number of elrs receiver have negative xco offset whilst Radiomaster TX16 has positive drift. This may raise some concern about what extent RX and TX are compatible with each other at all even though they are at the same ELRS version.

Excellent video. I searched to find the difference between the EP and RP models. You've explained it very well. Improved PCB, larger solder pads. Slightly larger but the RP2 fits in my 2.5 Tadpole rather well. Thank you, sir! I can't believe how easy it was to update the firmware over wifi and bind the receiver with my radio ELRS, I'm hooked! Thank you RadioMasterRC!

Good stuff! ; ) Most of us (at least those building more aerodynamic models like wings!) appreciate that the RP1, WITH socket/external antenna results in a less aerodynmic and heavier build (+1.7g)! Would be great to know how much signal strength/range is compromised with RP2, if at all? (Signal strength/range compared to RP3 would also be VERY helpful!)

My experience: RP2 in LBT EU Mode (and within the frame): RX works well, but Telemetry is lost after less then 200 m. RP2 in ISM Mode: ok, but not stellar. RP1 with external antenna: absolutely no RX loss, perfect telemetry signal (again in LBT EU Mode). (my TX: Radiomaster Boxer ELRS). My recommandation: always go for the RP1 (unless you always fly very close).

the design and production look really astonishing clean and the soldering joints look pretty precise. Only piece missing: the Zorro 2 with 18650 compartment Hope to see this be released soon to get one with the receivers hoping they will perform. Will you do a flirc comparison of the receivers under power over 10 minutes to see if this better quality has less issues than the previous reviewed ones like happy model? Would be great to see a pay off in the quality. EU prices here are net, so be aware that VAT comes on top and then those will be over 20€ but I guess worth the extra. OffTopic: pretty smart marketing move by leaking the avata images and data so early just in that moment when the Walksnail Avatar had its weakest moment. I bet we will have a dji avata weekend ahead and a wave of influencer reviews and maybe one lucky guy who will find one in a store tomorrow or wednesday and get that one to be the first to talk about. Hope you will get your pretty early and that the weather will be neither too hot nor too rainy.

Hi Mads - I saw someone criticize your video and then you tested it, compared to Betaflight, but I did not understand the technicals behind your reporting - it went over my head. My concern is I know a ceramic antenna has less range but still Wes Varty got really decent results that basically no quad could ever fly beyond its range - yet I bought a Betafpv receiver with ceramic antenna and my RSSI LQ was dropping considerably within 150 feet - not sure if I can trust ceramic antennas - would like more info on range and reliability of signal, etc. Appreciate bringing these products to our attentiion.

the question that needs to be answered is.. do the RM EP/RP type recievers play well with the Happy Model 2.4 ELRS transmitter? Do they bind easily or does one have to sacrifice 2 goats and a duck to get it to work? a great example of hard to do would be binding the Happy Model Mobula 6 ELRS 900 with the Radiomaster TX16S using the Happy Model 900 ELRS transmitter drop in pack... nearly impossible to do if you arent a computer wizard...

I have a bunch of Happymodel receivers and they've been rock solid for me, but I'm running low and looking to stock up. I watch your channel rather regularly, and I generally like a lot what you do. Thx for that! This review however I find quite disappointing. You only look at the build quality, but good build quality does not say anything at all if it's good design and high quality. A crap design built well still is a crap design. I actually deprive all these reviews out there which just look at something and than praise it in high words. That's a strange interpretation of "high quality". The disappointing thing here is that especially you would have the abilities (tools) to do better! First, I wonder, is this a TXCO. If not, then it is the same crap design as before. If it is just a XCO, is it in the correct frequency range? You could measure that with your tools! How does it behave with temperature? You could measure that with your tools! (I assume you surely know about the frequency issue(s) with ELRS devices) Is the RF path on the pcb well designed, how is the rf filter/impedance matching? You could measure that with your tools! Does the antenna just have a nice plastic thing, or is the ufl connector in fact well attached (which is often the real problem)? How is the antenna tuned, and matched, does it reach the gain it is expected to reach? You could measure that with your tools! Nothing on any of the real points, all you argue it's well built and conclude it's highest quality and so much much better ... you can do better :) Sorry for being picky, as said I generally like your contributions a lot, and I wish you won't become just another of these hasty reviewers talking all the same ... well, you understand :)

There are a few things here I’d like to reply on. First of all I did I hit just say it was good based on how it looked. I made it clear I had not flown it my self however I had actually spoke with the ERRS devs on the receiver to confirm their thoughts before publishing and it was said to be absolutely fine with no issues. The design is as they would expect it. As for the XCO issues in ELRS this is actually something that’s extremely limited and no that wide spread. It’s something I am thinking about adding to the list of tests for sure however it’s also not something that needs to panic people. To keep it fairly simple I may add in testing for this but I also don’t want to be highlighting something that’s affecting 1/1000+. But these receivers are being tested specifically for that today but that’s only a sample size of 2. Antenna tuning is one I will do in-future for sure. As for going into a deep dive on the antenna matching circuit and PCB track impedance on something like this of this cost I’m not sure what the benefit it overall. I 100% agree on some of the basics we can cover and add info on to for sure and I will post some of that later today. I don’t just say I’m happy with something easily, if I can’t test it I will ensure I have spoke to someone who has who is in authority as I have here with the ELRS dev team. The problem with reviews is there is a balance, could spend 3 days on a $20 part and achieve nothing more than what I was originally saying however I also agree more info could be here. I will be posting an updated video on the P200 PSU later today and then I will do the same for this and I’ll do the Xxo tests on all my radiomaster gear

If you had watched the videos regulary then it is obvious that there had been 2 kinds of elrs receivers * cheap and crappy soldered ones with some DOA or questionable quality regarding how long they last * better ones on the bench That's what we have seen before and talked before on the channel and sometimes on sunday evenings we had talked about the experience on the field, but we had not measured that. I bet you will find not much difference between the same pcb. And over all of that we have to face the reality of chinese mass production that can change from day to day based on the supplies they got as we had seen in the laptop area even before the corinna nightmare like those EZBooks where we had identified 5 different designs for the same product with different weaknesses like touchpad and others. So what you have seen here means nothing considering that supply line issues can force them to choose different components from different suppliers on paper with the same specifications, but if you have to exchange 5 components then 5 different tolerances can multiply each other and end in a nightmare. Might not be happen with TBS products but ELRS vx/tx will suffer far more of these issues.

it's probably ly the smallest long range receiver with great quality you can buy today. it is used mainly for quads because of the light weight and size, they also work with UARTs found in flight controllers, there are other elrs receivers for air planes and surface (cars) they would use old school PWm style connection.. RadioMaster is is a great brand, they offer endless options on your receiver from physical customization like buttons, lights, nobs. but the Radio master uses edgeTx which is constantly being updated. pound for pound there isn't a better controller in my opinion when it comes to the RadioMaster Tx16s m2. take some time to do a little research and see all the benefits compared to over rated over priced brands like spectrum, Futura and others.
