    Great review Keith. I'm getting one. I have all those old R9MMs. This will come in really handy and the RT is a u-art

    I'm almost sold on getting one too. I'll be replacing my old DragonLink. Thanks for the info on the RT being a UART, I didn't know that.

    Yeah I found later that the "RT" connector is the UART broken out to there. The nano and micro have a UART available also, but they're solder pads on the PCB inside. My first venture into ELRS was with a flashed R9 module and R9MM receiver. lol It was a fun project to make use of that old hardware that was otherwise going into the parts bin, and gave me a chance to see what setting up ELRS was like. I like to see some good quality hardware from Radiomaster for the 900MHz stuff too now, even though the 2.4GHz Ranger hardware was impressive in it's own right. We can never have too many options! lol

    For a while there it was difficult to find TBS hardware in stock. At that time, having many choices for hardware was a good thing... lol I'm happy to see Radiomaster stepping into the 900MHz stuff too, along with their 2.4GHz hardware. Especially now that ELRS seems to be developing more and more towards longer range, Mavlink, etc. since the faster link and all that was nailed down early on.

    ELRS 900mhz with the OLED screen for only $10 more than the ELRS 2.4ghz is a great deal.

    @@PilotsPitstop Here's some images - imgur.com/a/j9uTiuN There's the T-Lite and Pocket radios with the full size Bandit module. I also included a couple of the Bandit Nano on the T-Lite. The Nano is a lot less bulky and offers most of what the full size one does, something to consider unless the full size has something you need... lol

    To quote one of the ELRS devs when I asked about it some time ago, "The answer is - kinda. Output can be increased, but not by much." "It can be increase, but not much. Max output is just under 1.5W, so only about 20% more range than on 1W" Also, "Yeah its literally only a 1.75dB increase, which is around 20% extra range and when the range is already 100km or so, why bother"

    Hey Mr Pirate, just wondering if you have seen a good PWM option for the 900mhz RadioMaster ELRS system. I don't always want to use a flight controller to route my servos. Thanks for the awesome videos!

    I think I saw a 900MHz PWM receiver from Happy Model, but I don't know anything else about it. I'm not sure if Radiomaster has anything in their plans or not.

    It's funny that you did this video on the Radiomaster Bandit (900MHz ELRS) today. I've been looking up the specs of these exact ones for the past couple of days. Comparing the two receivers. Looking to replace my older DragonLink. (the newer DragonLink radios are always out of stock.) Do you get credit for it if I buy it? If so, where do I order it from for you to get credit for it? Get well soon.

    Yeah it's been somewhat difficult to get Dragonlink receivers for some time now. I see small batches of them come into stock here and there, but they are gone almost immediately. Out of these, to replace Dragonlink I think I'd go with the RP3 for it's higher telemetry output, and diversity can't hurt either I think... lol I do like the radio model feature of Dragonlink to run Mavlink over it. Apparently ELRS is working in the background on something called Mavlink-RC which should do pretty much the same. I don't know how far that is from making it into a release though. Mohammad Adib has some videos of it working. The links below the video in the description are affiliate ones, I'll get credit if you purchase from those. I don't know of retailers have these yet, they were just announced this morning.

    Is this competition for tbs crsf (which I still use) or is this just ELRS on another bandwidth?

  • @bonafidepirate

    @bonafidepirate

    It's ELRS on a different band, though there's been other offerings on 900MHz for a while so nothing new there. It's just Radiomaster stepping into the 900MHz stuff. That said, I think ELRS in itself is competition for Crossfire. It does have a few advantages, but that's not to say Crossfire doesn't work too. I've been flying it, and Dragonlink for years without issue. I'm just starting to use ELRS a bit lately and no issues there either. The best thing about it all, is having more options to better pick what suits your use case the best... lol It seems ELRS is heading in a direction to check all the boxes for everyone, and should be around for a long time being open source. Relatively low cost for good hardware helps too.

    You can adjust it in the lua from 100-500mW output. A little airflow should be all it needs to stay cool at 500mW. I've ran the Crossfire Nano RX Pro at max output power with no issue with it inside a fuselage. I suspect this will work pretty much the same.

    Not that I'm aware of, yet. The ELRS guys are working on something they call "Mavlink-RC" right now, that should allow a mavlink connection alongside R/C over one radio, and also mavlink out via WiFi. Mahammad Adib has a couple of videos of it working. I don't know how long it will be until that makes it into a release version though.

    Waste of time & money as long as Radiomaster continues ignoring ELRS Gemini integration. It's sad, because RadioMaster is my favorite ELRS hardware quality... Welp... BetaFPV for ELRS with true diversity receivers for long range. (Or I'll break out some old 430/433mhz TSLRS). It'd be interesting to see ELRS jumping down into 430/433. I still hate we gave up 72/75mhz. The penetration and coverage behind fresnel zone was incredible. Receiver sensitivity just sucked.

    i assume the "native" antenna of the rx drops out of the circuit when the external modules are snapped into place?

  • @bonafidepirate

    @bonafidepirate

    8 ай бұрын

    In the TX, in model settings, you select which internal or external modules are used for that model. If the internal module is disabled it won't power up or transmit. I have a removeable antenna mod on my TX16S since I mostly use external modules, but still leave a 50 ohm load on the connector so I don't forget and select a model with the internal module enabled and run it without an antenna.
