To non guitar players, they may not appreciate how hard it is to perform an intricate picking melody the entire length of the song while simultaneously singing in a vocal line that allows for almost no breaks and really long breath holds. Thom makes it look like the easiest thing in the world.

thom has arguably the best technical singing ability of any other man in alternative music. he never strains, his breath capacity is insane, and his tone is always just as good as it is on albums. he really is something else.

Articles from the 90s said he had a vocal coach, and it's part of why he quit smoking. He was good here obviously but not entirely self-taught.

Chills. How he holds the notes perfectly with that Thom Yorke signature vibrato while perfectly guitar picking is pure talent. Love this band so much.

I think this might be better than the actual album version. The vocal’s so alive and haunting, and the stripped down and harmonious doubled-acoustic instrumental gives it that perfect intimate feel.

It's really incredible how long he can hold those notes for.. I can play this on guitar and sing, but it's almost impossible for me to sing it like he did. What makes it more amazing is that he's a lot smaller than i am!

Agreed. It's definitely a tricky one to sing and play at the same time, however, with lots of practice your muscle memory eventually takes over. 'Body Snatchers' is another tough one to sing and play as well but Thom makes it look effortless. Such a brilliant musician....

What an amazing live performance. I’m actually stunned by how good he sounds.

The funniest part about Japanese culture is no matter how bleak the artistic interaction is, they respond with the upbeat type of attitude you'd expect from a kid's Saturday morning cartoon.

Imagine going to the mall and stopping by the TV's real quick for a Radiohead performance.

Tom's vocals here are absolutely stunning - one of their best live performances!

Thom’s voice is a treasure

His performance is OFF THE CHARTS. It is so rare to see an artist who, sick to death maybe of replaying the same material, still, remembers the very same emotion and agony which drove them to write the song in the first place, and can still convey it in its essence in a live gig. This man is the genuine of genuine articles.

I do not think I have heard a better version of this song by anyone (including Radiohead), ever.

I've been watching their videos a lot lately, Thom has his eyes closed often. Maybe that's his trick to staying focused. He kinda looks like a newborn puppy or kitten when he closes his eyes, sings, and shakes his head side to side.

I've been a Radiohead fan for as long as I can remember and I've somehow missed this. What an incredible performance even by Radiohead's standards. Sadly the presenters didn't seem to register what they had just witnessed. I would have been speechlees and in total awe.

My son learned this first thing he taught himself to play guitar at 11. He’s very talented and loves Radiohead decades after I did. We had frequent electricity blackouts in that neighbourhood and he would bring his acoustic down and play this for his younger siblings ( and me) while they held light sticks in the dark I love this song anyway but it’s extra special for the memories

This has to be one of the most powerful moments in music ever recorded.

This is one of those songs you wish had no ending. 🧡

Actually the picking pattern is not hard to pick up. As a guitarist who has only been playing for a couple months I picked up this song today and got the picking pattern down easily. The somewhat hard part is when the picking pattern changes ever so slightly when you change to a different chord. Beautiful song though
