A brief history, Creep blew up on mtv but both Radiohead and especially the singer Thom Yorke hated how popular it became and how it pigeon holed them into the grunge genre and they are anything but. This track alone put them on the map and they sold 2 million of their first cd! Most fans don’t like or hate this song though because it’s not a good representation of who they are as artists. Even on the Cd Pablo Honey which this is from the Single You is a better feel for them.(I’d also recommend Ripcord off there as well) The pressure to make a follow up “hit” made them go a very different direction on their next cd The Bends(also great. Planet Telex is a great track as well as My Iron Lung, Black Star and Street Spirit(fade out) As a fan following them for over 20 years(geez) most of their stuff is excellent. It may not be up your interests Drew. If ya decide to take a deeper dive though anything off of Albums Ok computer, amnesiac and Kid A are a better feel for who they are. And their most recent cd is a great way to see how much they’ve continued to evolve. It’s titled A Moon Shaped Pool. And finally by both critics and fans alike their cd In Rainbows is a masterpiece in all accounts. And most of what everyone below already suggested. hope you give them more of a chance. 👍

These guys are my favorite band. They're not the ones you go to for big rockin bangers (with a few exceptions), but maan the emotional weigh of their stuff is undeniable. Their later output (which I prefer) is sometimes seen as too "experimental" or "sleepy" but it's definitely worth checking out just for how successfully they were able to branch out and take elements of electronic music or jazz for example, and create something powerful of their own

This is what the actual singer of the song quote about what the song is about "Yorke says this is about being in love with someone, but not feeling good enough. He describes the feeling as, "There's the beautiful people and then there's the rest of us."

I can’t believe you just heard this for the first time! It’s great live and there are some amazing covers of this. I’m from NYC and saw a guy perform this on the street many years ago. It was crazy good, his name was Homeless Mustard and some years later I think Opie and Anthony had him on their radio show and he got some love. His video is actually on KZread and you should check it out and imagine leaving a night club walking down the street as a young man and witnessing this. It was unreal.

Dunno if you know much about 2FMs Dave Fanning- but for years he had a show each weeknight. I usually tuned in to hopefully get to tape some songs I was lookin for onto my ever growing cassette compos. Nostalgia aside, Radiohead were on the show just about every night. They, along with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins , Oasis, Prodigy and U2 were staples of late night radio /MTV in the 90s. You defo have heard more of their stuff before. "Creep" as noted here by others, doesnt represent the band at all really. Its still one of their best known tracks, but they totally evolved from this sound by the following albums. But their 90s output is still massively played in every indie bar since. Again, Im not a fan, but there mite indeed be some songs in there that will delve you more into different styles of music, which is always a cool ting.

It’s always interesting to see the reaction on the faces of people who are hearing the transition piece Jonny hits just before the chorus…. He’s a musical genius. When Radiohead was mixing this song in the studio, an American record producer happened to walk by… He asked who was the band and what was the song that was being mixed. He then suggested to Johnny can you make that transition angrier and louder? Johnny did just that and it became a hit in America, but not in the UK at least not right away. Creep is one of my favorite songs, it remains on my playlist permanently❤️

Major song in the early 90s,this one. At the time of grunge (my favourite genre),this was a sort of English counterpart to Nirvana-at least some of the media went that way initially with them. They were massive in the mid 90s also , sounding totally different to Oasis who were the biggest band in UK/Ireland at the time. But since '97s "OK Computer", they have completely altered their sound with experimental, ambient and electro influences utterly transforming them into a totally different band. Since this track from '93, they especially have a massive following in Ireland. OK Computer was utterly everywhere when it came out. Never really got into them to be honest, but its cool to see you react to something from the early 90s, which in general in one of my favourite eras for music!

I think you would enjoy MUSE a lot more which is a rock band that formed in the same era as Radiohead. A lot of people are quick to call MUSE Radiohead rip offs (mainly because of the similar vocalists) but they developed a more grand, heavy, and up tempo sound while Radiohead went the opposite direction. You would definitely enjoy a song like Hysteria or Stockholm Syndrome to start off with. They feature heavy distorted bass lines and amazing song writing. It’s something that’s more up your alley than Radiohead, but it’s just a suggestion. I mean I love both bands.

The lead singer said that basically when he wrote the song, he lacked confidence to talk to a woman, whom he deemed as way out of his league, and approach her in a way where he could be authentically himself without telling her that he was in a band. Hence why he said it was difficult to do. He didn’t know how to exert himself as a man at the time. He was young, naive, and insecure. Obviously...lol. He equates masculinity to confidence. He thinks that IF he had had that trait at that time he would have been able to approach her appropriately and not make a fool of himself like he did when he did. Oh and effeminate means not masculine. I hope that helped you understand what the writer tried to explain. ☺️
