    I like the voice's writing... I see many people here including Manly sees it as too on the nose. But I think it's for the better: because it gives you a clear reason why you're not supposed to listen to it despite its soothing and superficially calming nature. If the writing is too subtle, I think it will defeat the theme the author wanna portray. Also for the people saying that the voice is way too berating compared to your normal inner voice: to be fair, if the protag really did all the things the voice says, then he really is objectively worse person than your average, non-criminal person.

  • @littlekitsune1

    @littlekitsune1

    3 жыл бұрын

    The problem is it's just obnoxious edge. Not really adding much when the game is over an hour but we've already had the message drilled into our heads not even 15 minutes in. Besides the protagonist being so awful kind of negates the idea that they shouldn't listen to their inner voice anyway, since there's no real redemption there. Which undermines any supposed value to making the voice so on-the-nose anyway.

  • @kaitlynboss3497

But other than that I agree that their voices are pretty similar when talking. I was checking out the comments to see if there was anyone else who noticed. even guessing the "twist" early, its a strong narrative that doesnt rely on a gotcha like that. props to the voice actor, i really enjoyed his performance. given the unreliable narrator, i wonder if the hospital really is as neglectful and decrepit as he describes. for someone with addiction and criminal issues, i wonder if thats how the protagonist feels about hospitals in general, or this one he worked at in particular. like a hospital is just a place to languish and die, so he avoids them.

    while there is the more literal narrative of the person going to kill that woman, i think the hospital is more meant to be an embodiment of the character themselves, possibly indicating his name is actually "felix bloom". when he was young, the hospital was pristine but after an "earthquake" it fell to ruin, which possibly could be that first sin. certain things like the elevator for instance i imagine are metaphorical for getting high since its mentioned the character is a junkie. the character the protagonist is here to kill may be his mother since its indicated she knows him despite this being a house he was robbing.

  • @eternyti

    @eternyti

    I'm 100% positive its his mother because at the "Repentance" ending when the protag apologizes to the woman, the First Sin responds with "You are forgiven. She still loves you dearly." Even the protag's apologies ("I'm sorry for betraying your trust and never talking to you about my problems") imply there's an emotional connection and history between them.

  • @FluffyDragonDrawing

    @FluffyDragonDrawing

    @@eternyti I feel like she was more of a partner of sorts. His mother was already brought up before, so why didn't they make any kind of link between them? Even a short line like "There she is, waiting for you up in room 521." would have been all it needed to solidify it; Not to mention that the voice (While an unreliable narrator, does seem to be telling us about events that actually happened) stated that the protag ran away and never returned. He would have been returning if that was actually her. There as also a mention that the woman in the room was middle aged, and maybe I'm misunderstanding it, but the protag has to be an adult at this point, so his mother has to be older than that, so for her to be middle aged, yet still having an adult child; not impossible but seems unlikely? I absolutely thought it was the mother at first, but it feels like they kept dropping subtle hints that it's unlikely to be her through the narrative which makes me think otherwise. As such my current conclusion was some kind of life partner.

    As someone who used to be violently angry, and violent towards herself (bad upbringing), the voice was quite accurate with its tone. I used to be really hateful towards everything, and I justified it to myself. I would joke to my friends that "I have alcohol in my blood" to reason why I was loud and impulsive, only drunk people would do that. I told myself how much I hated other people, and why it was justified to do so, much like the "you were born bad, and the city never gave you the tools to fix that" part. It was horrible, just a constant spiral, and a 'kill or be killed' mentality all day. Fortunately, it's been 4-5 years now, and I'm way better, and my inner voice doesn't speak that way anymore, thank goodness ^^

    _MBH called it_ The voice met your character in a mirror once. If MBH hadn’t come to the conclusion that the character was talking to himself before, the mirror confirmed it to me. I'm not sure that a person, the woman, was really in that hospital because I think that was long abandoned & maybe the woman had already died. Hospitals don't usually keep operating for years after going to ruin. And while people are heavily influenced by their environment & society, they still have a conscience & the ability to tell right from wrong. So the final message for me is that hedonism without regard for yourself or others isn't happiness & if your inner voice or anyone else's voice is saying that, mute them.

    I was sitting here wondering if this was by the "Don't open your eyes" developer and then the ending confirmed it, haha. They have such a strong style that it's easy to recognize.

    I feel like the "hospital" is just symbolism for the character and his name is Felix Bloom, the whole story being an intense self refletion

    Turning off the radio, as opposed to muting it, means ending his own life, I believe. In repentance, he gives his apologies and ends his own life.

    I've used this gameplay as ASMR and I regret nothing. Manly's voice: soothing. The radio voice: soothing (he's annoying but let's not think about what he says (??)).

    "When are you going to direct me to a trashcan and tell me it's empty like my soul" hahahaha! Omfg that's too funny! I swear if that happens in the game i'm going to scream! It's exactly what that voice would do! Hahaha.

    I actually like how the creator wanted us to think "what the hell just happened" because I love certain theories, especially about horror. Thx creator for reminding me about these masterpieces (this game especially) 👌

    My favorite part of this game was the chase part, while you can't quite animate in a novel, its still interesting how they did it
