Radio Navigation in the BAe 146 in Microsoft Flight Simulator

Ойындар

A quick flight illustrating radio navigation in the BAe 146 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. We take off from London City airport, and navigate via VOR stations to Stansted - using VOR Lock, Glideslope Lock, Heading, Vertical Speed, and Altitude Hold mode along the way.

    Jonathan, you’re doing The Lord’s work! I just purchased this plane a few days ago, and am absolutely in love with it. I’ve never done VOR anything before, but after a time, glass cockpits and GPS gets a bit stale. Thanks to your video, I was able to make an hour long flight from Flagstaff (KFLG) to Salt Lake City (KSLC), using what I learned from you. Thanks a ton! 🖖😀

Ties nicely with LittleNav Map which I'm also just starting to learn. Quick question, I haven't yet been able to figure out how to have both the heading and distance for each of the yellow legs. Currently only displaying distance. Cheers.

    Should engage IAS mode on takeoff instead in order to maintain v2+10 or whatever climb speed is set to. Also as far as I know there is not auto throttle in the 146. There's a limiter which is completely different. Apart from that good for beginners to Learn basics on this aircraft.

    There are a number of bindings for the airbrake - some pre-configured on the keyboard already - just search for "brake" or "spoiler" in the controller config screens. Remember each hardware device has different bindings.

    Here you say the aircraft is flying into the 351deg radial *towards* the VOR beacon. Question: Does it always fly towards the beacon, or can it also be set to fly *away* from the beacon along a given radial?

  • @jonbeckett

    @jonbeckett

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes of course - it's just dependent on the course you dial in - if you are flying towards the VOR, the NAV radio knows the course is "to" the VOR. If the course is away from the VOR, the NAV radio knows the course is "from" the VOR, and the symbology on the CDI (course deviation indicator) reflects that - with the two arrows being on the same side (to), or on opposite sides (from).

    You shouldn’t change over to the next VOR as soon as your overhead the last. You need should fly the outbound radial until the halfway point (known as the changeover point) and then change to the inbound VOR. The reason is that in the real world the VOR coverages are limited.
