There are a bunch - Rinne MV, Moratorium Live, Black Hole (mad perhaps rather than heavy) which is paired with Manners in a live video - those should get you started. Akane's double base work on Black Hole is a tad quick, Kanami presented the band with several options for the tempo ranging from easy to hell, the band chose hell much to Akane's chagrin as it peaks at 220 bpm.

Heavy is a relative term. They aren't a metal band. Even the heaviest Band-Maid songs don't usually feel as heavy as they are because the vocals remain melodic; like a raft in a turbulent sea. If you stay on the raft and don't look around you, cover your ears to the howling winds, you'll wonder what all the fuss is about. But take your focus away from the raft and you'll recognise the tempest that surrounds you.

This was the first Band-Maid video I watched on KZread. One video and I was hooked. Backstory: I was living in a small cabin in the woods in Tennessee under quarantine due to testing positive for Covid. At 72 years of age and afflicted with other major health problems, I truly was considering giving up on life. After watching the video, realizing the joy in rock and roll that these petite young Japanese females brough to my life. I first started scrolling through the internet (especially KZread) to find more of their music. All of a sudden, I felt I had something to look forward to. I was hooked. I moved back to Atlanta for better healthcare and had a bucket list item to see them in concert. I was fortunate to catch one of their concerts in Atlanta. It was one of the best live concerts I have been to in my life. Afterward, I realized I had a burning need to see them again. So, I really jumped out of my comfort zone and flew to Minneapolis to catch another show. Again, it was worth every penny I spent to buy the tickets, book a flight and hotel room, and stand in line for hours to see them again. That is what this band has done for me and I know this story is familiar and experienced by so many people like me. When a band can do that for someone, they should be respected, appreciated, and LOVED!!!!!

The fanbase is extremely respectful towards this band and it goes both ways. As far as souvenirs are concerned the fans are happy to get what they are given rather than trying to grab something which can be guitar picks, drumsticks , an autographed banana skin, a swig of Misa's whiskey or some of Saiki's sweat flicked their way ( it wasn't at all creepy really). Starting to queue at venues in the US at 3 am by The Dawn Patrol for 6 pm entry is as mad as it gets.

This ... this is correct. We are not a bunch of rabid screaming kids at a rap concert. Our interaction with our MAIDs live at concerts is very restrained because they give us close access willingly. Nobody wants to see that change. Recommend you watch a live from that concert, "Hate?", and then for a change of pace try their latest MV "Bestie" which they wrote all in English. Heaviest online try "Black Hole" or "Rinne". "Black Hole" is paired with "Manners" which is a groove song. We Madiacs are a mostly polite bunch and very respectful of these wonderful ladies. We love them and they love us back. I'm a die-hard Band-Maid fan but c'mon - nobody (musically educated) say "they're better than The Beatles" (or Pink Floyd, or The Guns, or Metallica ... blah blah blah). People tend to say "they're better than ..." instead of "I PREFER them to ... ". "Better" should be banned from music comments, art is subjective. Band-Maid is one of my favorite bands EVER but it doesn't mean I consider them "better" than some bands I've been listening to for 50 years. They're unique, incredibly talented and let most musicians in awe. No need to compare them.

Welcome to the best rock band on the planet. These beautiful ladies have been rocking for about 10 years. Band Maid sound like Band Maid there is no band out there that comes close. Be warned they will come for your soul with plenty of Solo work from Misa (bass), Kanami (lead), Drum fills and solos from Akane and all are all killer. Formed in 2013 by Miku who used to work in a Maid café’, the Maids first gained international notice in April 2015 when the Facebook page of internet radio station Jrock Radio promoted the music video for "Thrill" and it went viral. The great thing is they always look so happy with great interactions with their fans (that they call “Masters” and “Princesses” with concerts called “Servings”). Some of my favourite tracks are Play, Domination, Don’t You Tell Me, Dice, Freedom, Onset, From now on, Without Holding Back, Hate and Bestie. Any Maids track always ROCKS and they have an extensive back catalogue (130+ tracks). They are all so different and are all great tracks. The 5 Band-Maid members are: SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals and melodies (Beautiful strong voice). MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku), "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals and lyricist. Miku's new signature Zemaitis guitar has pigeons on the fret board. The “Flappy Pigeon” is a beautiful model. Miku always has the finest guitars in the land. KANAMI Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar and keyboards. Kanami plays a PRS; the birds on the fret board are a tribute to Paul Reed Smith's mum who was an avid birdwatcher. AKANE Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums. MISA (Me-Sa), "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass. Misa usually plays a Black Cloud 5 string bass aka “Black Smoker”. Their Battle Gear as they call it with slight variations are French maid outfits for Akane, Miku and Kanami, MISA ditched the French maid outfit early on and started to wear a Chinese inspired maid outfit - in black of course. It's partly how MISA got her nickname 'The Barefoot Assassin', she always plays barefoot, and Miku joked her outfit was an “Assassin maid”. Saiki's outfit is more Spanish inspired and more fitting for the Queen of Maids.

I'm not in my right mind then Tom! I grew up here in the UK in the Sixties. I never got the whole Beatles thing. To me they were a terrible boy pop band who later took a ton of drugs and tried to go psychedelic and failed. I've never heard a song by them I thought was even half way decent. They were big because of media frenzy and the fact pop-stars were new at that time. Nobody I grew up with rated them, nobody at school rated them either. It wasn't until the internet age I found out serious musicians rated them. And to this day I have no clue why. When I was in Japan (following Band-Maid) I was talking to a group of fans at dinner and when I told them about what I thought of The Beatles - the Japanese fans smiled and nodded. The US fans were utterly shocked and couldn't believe it lol! Millions love them, fair play to them too. I just don't get the hype (or the music).

I'm a musician who played rock in bands from the 60's - 2,000's and was totally inspired by the Beatles music, their creativity, writing, playing... everything. But you can believe in the actual facts -- the stats -- and the world reaction to them, their music sales that cemented their place in music history, and on and on. I think you have every right to think they were just hollow media hype. But imo, you're in a very very very (did I say very?) small minority who believe that -- unless you're Gen Y, Z or A. I think Band-Maid, who are technically better players than the Beatles, show similarities to the fab four (there's that media hype word). The fans are very respectful of the band and actually care about them like they're family. The band members are like a family as they're all good friends. When they gather around the drummer they're goofing around trying to throw her off by making faces, etc. They have a lot of fun on stage. If you really want to hear the bass watch NO GOD live or HATE? live. Saiki (the Ice Queen) is the lead singer and quality control. Miku (the pigeon) is the founder, rhythm guitar, backup vocals and lyricist. Kanami (Mincho) is lead guitar, any keyboards you may hear and genius composer. Misa (the barefoot assassin) is the bassist extraordinaire who never plays exactly what the rest of the band is doing. Akane (the gorilla) is an incredible drummer that Jimmy Page had to go backstage to meet when they were in England. They weren't created, they came together organically and have finally arrived where they should be as the best rock band on the planet in my opinion. Pick any song (and they're all different)j and they're all good. You'll understand The Beatles analogy better. I'm 72 and have been listening to Band Maid for quite a while now and they've never disappointed me. Amen to no captions! Enjoy the song and performance. One thing you will never hear at a Band Maid concert is a member telling the audience to “get up” or “let me see your hands!” It’s an automatic response to Maid rock. 🤘🏽 There is quite a bit of backstage footage available. Quite atypical rock star stuff like them cooking for each other or leaving a tour bus cleaner than when they found it. I’ve made carefully worded Beatles mentions with Band Maid. Never directly compared, but only as examples of incredibly interesting variety of songwriting. Most bands find the formula that works for them and stay close to that. Band Maid plays wildly different styles without much fear at all. The most obvious historical example of incredibly wide variety of songs is the Beatles. I challenge anyone to listen to the metal instrumental “From Now On,” the progressive punk “Blooming,” and the slow jam “About Us” and name another band that could’ve pulled it off

I've seen'm live, in the USA, in Minneapolis '23. A tour organizer for the BAND-MAID North America tour talked to me for while I was in line. He's done a lot of tours for a lot of bands, and he mentioned that we Maidiacs were the best-behaved, most orderly fans he'd encountered. Which is probably pretty fair for the USA fans, who run a bit older---BAND-MAID has the kind of guitar-driven hard rock sound that we haven't heard in the States for a long time, and have missed. Fans are a bit more energetic in Japan, and we could only imperfectly emulate their calls and responses for Domination and other live favorites. Though, as for souvenirs, everybody with the early admission ticket got an art postcard signed by all five. And Kanami threw her guitar picks to the crowd at the end, so some folks got some! Thanks for the reaction. And thanks for doing your work for the indie scene. Subscribed. And, if you want some more.... you really ought to check out "HATE?", live.

Souvenirs. Kanami, Miku and Misa will throw their signature designed picks into the crowd. At some performances, Akane has from time to time, thrown her drum sticks into the crowd. If you're really lucky, you will sometimes get stuff handed directly to you. Like the little girl in the Maid outfit which caught Miku's eye. As she called her..."Little Miku". Or the little boy in Boston, in 2022. He scored big time. Akane signed a stick and gave it to him. Along with Miku and Kanami also giving him a pick. Lucky little dude got 3 souvenirs! At the 2022 US tour, Akane, "the Gorilla", was even known to throw a signed banana peel into the audience. 😂 In all of the concerts I've attended, I was fortunate enough to get one pick. A MISA pick at the Sacramento 2023 show! I missed a Miku pick in Boston, bounced off the person next to me and went over my head. And I missed a Kanami pick in San Diego in 2022, I was on the rail, but it was thrown way over my head, but no one caught it. So when the lights went up, people were looking around the floor for it. Some were duck squatting right next to me. I turned around and shuffled my feet and the pick was under my foot and was snatched by one of the squatters next to me. Man, that picked must have did some neat ricochets to get back to me on the rail. I should have stomped down hard and squashed that guys hand. Then maybe I would have got it. 🤣

The notes ringing out at the beginning were the final notes of their song Play. The OLV for it is also available on their YT channel. Play and Domination were the 21st and 22nd songs in a 2+ hour long 23 song concert on February 14th 2020. And it was also the second concert in a tour finale in 2 days. That's right, just the day before the Ladies had played an entire concert with 25 songs in that one, then came back 14 hours later and performed 23 songs. And they maintained the same energy level throughout both concerts. This was the last concert by the Ladies and at the end of this concert, they had an announcement that they were scheduled to perform at their holy grail of performance halls. Budokan. They were scheduled for Budokan in February of 2021. But we know what happened. The Lockdowns. So the Ladies had to cancel their concert, but they performed for us anyway, doing a live on-line concert that was streamed to over 60 countries.

Backstory? We Madiacs are full of information. Just read the comments or invite us to a live stream, sure 🙂 And if you love to see some documentaries: Watch the wonderful videos made by Ohrenje and narrator Kasper Michaels. With their 7x30minutes documentaries about each member (order: Saiki, Kanami, Akane, Misa, 3x Miku) you will learn a lot about 'our ladies'. But if you want to learn from us ... easy 😆 Next song from Band Maid? For some band history watch their first MV ever: "Thrill" MV from 2014. That one got viral back then and saved the band. Or maybe a very recent live performance from their 10th anniversary in Yokohama last year? Then I recommend "Don't you tell ME". But there are so many other songs I can recommend (Play! LIVE, From now on, Corallium LIVE, Freedom LIVE, Warning MV, ...). But I realize that you can only listen to one song at a time 😆 About the band members: Miku Kobato (rythm guitar, founder of band maid, most times second vocals and harmonies, lyricist, our little pigeon) Saiki Atsumi (lead vocalist) Kanami Tono (lead guitar and composer or all songs nowadays) Misa (bass, the barefoot assassin) Akane Hirose (gorilla and goddess on drums) Sensei means "Teacher" in Japanese: Kanami was the Sensei of Miku on rythm guitar: Miku didn't know how to play the guitar at the beginning of Band Maid. First she was the singer ... for a few weeks 🙂 Well, history ... 🕊 By the way: Good decision to turn off captions. So many reactors complain about the language, but just listen and enjoy ... you can read the lyrics afterwards, po 🕊 As a non native English speaker I am very rarely aware of English lyrics 😆

TBH I didn't know what to think when I first heard Band-Maid. "In spite of" (and I put that phrase in big air quotes now) the maid costumes, their music was unique and addictive. The brain of the lead guitarist, Kanami Tono (plus band mates), has been pumping out infectious melodic hard rock for a decade now. So if that is close to your genre interests in any way, keep it going. You can go back to the early songs, or you could take a listen to the more mature Band-Maid and check out their massive 11/23 Yokohama concert and songs like Hate, Don't You Tell ME, and endless story. Or pick at random.

Oh, and you mentioned the fans saying they were better than The Beatles, in my opinion, besides the obvious (the outfits) The Beatles did have some ordinary songs ... you just can't find an ordinary song with BAND MAID. Try an instrumental ... Live - "Onset" or the MV of "From Now On". Both just show that these ladies are brilliant at what they do. Sooooo much more than pretty girls in Maid outfits.

Oh...no one would dare lay a hand on our Maids. We have too much respect for them. The fan base is so well mannered and respectful, as the fan base in the US tended to lean towards a little older. In all the shows I've been to, I've only been to one show where someone waiting in line was kind of an A $ $. LOL. So, 1 in about 50K to 60K people...not a bad ratio at all. 🤔 Thank you for the second reaction to the Maids. There's much more to experience. The Pigeon-hole, this will make more sense after you watch the Ohrenje documentaries, is deep and diverse. Enjoy the journey. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 BTW...there's also a good interview on YT, Music Gold Rush Ep 73 and 74. Their in Japanese with English subtitles, but it's a good one to see. You see some of their personalities shine through and gives you a quick snap shot view of the members and how the band came to be.

If you really want to hear some serious (southern themed) rock do yourself and us a favor and review the Maids 'Flying High'. An often-overlooked powerhouse that will jerk you back to 70's when power was king and all the amps were dialed to 11. Seldom featured by reactors as there is no music video it remains a stunning example of just how good the Maids really are. Its hiding in plain sight on the Maids home page :).

Some great documentaries on each member on the KZread channel Ohrenje. It's a series of videos for each member meant to be watched in a certain order. I've never seen anyone even attempt to do anything inappropriate to the members. People show up to the band's arrival at shows and as the band gets off the bus everyone remains at a respectful distance. People don't even holler and scream to be noticed around them (well, not till the band is on stage when it is expected to shout members' names). People rarely even make comments that could be construed as inappropriate or disrespectful. And all of these comments come from people who just found a video here on KZread and feel the need to comment on their appearance. I think they only way Band-Maid and The Beatles can be compared is consistently quality songwriting. Beatles I feel had better melodies and were a lot more experimental (duh). But I will say this: I'm the type of music listener who, if I like, not even love; if I just *like* more than half an album, it's an amazing album. In other words, most songs disappoint me. With that said, The Beatles have over 80 songs in my "A+ song" list. Band-Maid is curently at 59 (this song isn't in the list). I haven't done any other lists but I'd be surprised if any other band -- even favourites like At the Drive-In, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Coheed and Cambria, Mars Volta, Guns N' Roses, Interpol, The Stone Roses, R.E.M., Fleetwood Mac -- had more than 25. Actually, maybe Radiohead has more than 25... Certainly the two bands can't be compared in importance. But Band-Maid isn't doing nothing. Their combination of prog-lite (yes, really; you haven't gotten there yet), with elements of metal and punk and catchy melodies *shouldn't work*. They also fill their songs with enough ideas to write an album. Go listen to "Corrallium". They discard song-worthy riffs in that track at the rate of 6 in thirty seconds at one point. And it doesn't feel busy! It's fast, yes, but they way the band weaves them together means you don't even notice it's happening. It's easy to make something complicated seem difficult (looking at you, Polyphia). It's hard to make something complicated seem easy. Band-Maid are masters at this. And I think that's one of the reasons why a lot of people don't seem to hear what I do in them. If someone just floats along the melodic vocals, that person missing out on a lot. I've spent a lifetime searching for this sound. Literally. Growing up in the 80s and 90s I had my father's classic rock in one ear, my mother's melodic sensibilities in the other, while the frustration and anger of the alternative and rap and hiphop and grunge era simmered around me. I love a lot of those songs, and I love that time period. But despite this huge variety of music, I never found "my" band. So with the advent of the internet, I spent 20+ years, checking out everything from "the next big thing" to bands that Pitchfork (remember when they were relevant?) would find obscure. But no other band sounds like this. Not to me at least. The songs you've heard so far don't paint this picture; I love "Alone" but it's probably their most easily categorised self-written track. It's pop-punk, but I'd say elevated pop-punk. Put on a Green Day or Blink-182 or even a Neck Deep song and compare them. It's not close. And as for this song, it's not in my top 70 Band-Maid tracks. If you don't hear what I do in them, that's cool. I'd say listen closer. If you still don't hear it, that's cool too. It seems most people don't. But thanks for giving it a shot.

I Love BM as much as anyone but Better than the Beatles, is a hard sell even for me. Just based on Sales and their influence on Music and Pop Culture as a whole, puts the Beatles in a class by themselves. But, that being said. I would definitely say that Band-Maid's musical career arch is reminiscent of the Beatles, not in sound per se, but in musical development in how the Beatles progressed musically from Love Me Do to Norwegian Wood to Sargent Peppers to Revolution 9 and Helter Skelter. All the while dominating the lane of the musical style they were experimenting in. Band-Maid has similarly gone on a musical progression whearin their sound has evolved and grown more complex with every song being unique unto itself, yet through it all you can still hear the Band-Maidness within it. Not only that but whatever musical genres that they blend and bend to their will for lovers of music theory, remains catchy and accessible for the casual listener. Very Beatlesesque indeed.
