Truly remarkable video It illustrates just how extremely difficult the conditions were for those brave enough to be onboard The Ross Revenge & Communicator, homes of Radio Caroline and Laser, respectively. It also clearly shows how remarkable it was that the 300 foot mast on The Ross remained in place for as long as it did.The stresses put on it and the associated stays must have been incredible under conditions such as these. As Carolines Peter Philips said "A Seething Mass Of Saline Hostility"

I believe engineering students at the University of Barcelona designed the radio mast on the ross revenge when Caroline was fitting her out in Spain, it is a tribute to them it held out for so long on the rough north sea.... The poor old communicator looked like it was faring badly in the weather, always felt Laser could have been a great station if it was not for backroom squabbles and the weird 'balloon' design antenna which failed and led to delays in the station starting.... sad the communicator was broken up :-( Though pleased the Ross Revenge survived after several scrapes!

Thank you, Ray, January on the North Sea. A hostile environment just to be in - let alone try to operate a radio station from. Our gratitude to those who did just that, and to those in the RNLI who were there to help when the need arose.

What a great video of two great british legends. Though I did read that the Communicator has been sold for scrap. (Is this true) I think I may have spotted her on google earth next to st margarets pier. Would be such a shame to loose her like in the galaxy. Mebo2 and a few others I could mention

Thank you to Mrplanetray for posting, and of course to Dennis Jason for making the video available, and not least of all for taking it in the first place, while your mast was collapsing out on deck, and there was clearly some ingress of water on The Communicator.Difficult conditions to put it verty mildly. Any idea what approximate date this was, or time of year? Thank You again. Caroline,of course, continues, from shore-based studios, and with occasional broadcasts from the very same Ross Revenge

I was looking for something like a date on a different time stamp of this recording. I didn''t find it. Sometime in the mid 80's anyway
