Radiator Replacement 2001 Suburban

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Cracked radiator spraying coolant all over engine compartment. 2 1/2 hours, a $225 radiator from Oreilly's, and tools that should be in most garages are all that were needed to finish the job.
Don't forget to pick up coolant and distilled water while you are getting your parts. Might want to replace the serpentine and air conditioner belts while you have the radiator out. You'll have more room to maneuver.
One part doesn't have much sound. My videographer (Michaela) had the mic covered! And although it's easier with an extra pair of hands like I had (thanks Jaden!), one person can get the job done..
CAUTION! The air bag sensors are located between the radiator and front grill. Although it is unlikely you would hit one, you should still keep their locations in mind while taking the radiator out.

    Several things with this video that's missing. You did good changing the radiator but as far as your public watching everything in detail you skipped when you pulled all of the hoses off and how difficult it can be. We missed also when you pulled the transmission hoses disconnect. When you make a video for us, we enjoy every detail of the removal and replacement. Oh, you did miss the drain pan. I did enjoy watch you take the shroud off to gain access. Now I know I don't have to take the fan off. You did a bang up job changing your daughters radiator though. Great dad.

    Guess a suburban radiator is rated for 15 years! Good news is that it's an easy fix. The transmission has a separate radiator so this fix is all coolant related (at least it was on mine....be sure to double check yours is too. I think there are combined setups on some 2001 suburbans). Good luck to both of you!)

    It was a very easy and relatively inexpensive repair. I replaced the hoses, and the hardest part was getting the hose clamps to cooperate. Thanks for posting the video. BTW, my radiator had a built-in transmission cooler. One thing to watch out for is that when you disconnect the hoses from the radiator, the remaining transmission fluid in the radiator is going to ooze out and puddle underneath the car.

    Strange. It seems your problem is a common weak point and indeed I have a crank that shoots coolant out from same exact upper, inner driver side of radiator, when engine running. I guess got worse after slow oozing last night when going up the mountain. Thanks for you good video and I think its too much work for me. I'll get it done and hopefully find the right person for this. Also keeping the fingers cross that this is the last of problems. BTW your coolant was green that seems to be big no no for American and GMC cars (Only red rusty color "Dex cool") that especially should not be mixed with green Japanese type.

  • @carybrewer9142

    @carybrewer9142

    3 жыл бұрын

    I am not a mechanic (as you can tell from the video!) but my guess is that the leak would have to be coming from the heater core. I’d be googling heater core leaks if my brake pedal was wet. You might also want to make sure it’s coolant. It could be condensation from the AC. Good luck!

    griselda morales usually the water pump goes out by just leaking. was it over heating before? i think there were plugs in the in and outlets of the radiator. you probably got those out though (they were hard to miss from what i remember ). i assume you checked your oil level.

  • @griseldamorales9336

    Yes my truck was over heating and had a crack on the side and I drove it like that for a while and 2 weeks ago it got worse. The temperature actually went passed half and a quarter more no more then that. I made sure it didn't over heat to where it would mess up my engine. But now that I think about it, u are rite. Gonna check water pump. Thanks a million. I will let u know the out come.
