Hi Dee and Jay. The cloudiness in the waters in Alaska is called ‘rock flour’ and is created by the weight of the glaciers sliding/grinding down the rock valleys. The dust/powder is very fine and so remains suspended in the water - so said the park ranger in Alaska when we cruised a few years back.

Dee and Jay, I recently started watching different cruise blogs, for a very specific reason - I’m trying to find out what ships actually have steps going into the swimming pools instead of just ladders… very important for me to know before I book a cruise. BUT… I found the two of you to be very interesting and relatable. Thank you for the time you put into your videos. I accidentally came across a video of your Alaskan cruise. I’ve been to Alaska and found it absolutely amazing! I tell everyone to go to Alaska. I’ve been to Mendenhall glacier, but didn’t have enough time to really do everything, and didn’t take the trails that you guys did. (We had made several other stops that day besides Mendenhall.) as you were walking those trails I felt like I was right there, and oh my goodness I am so thankful you saw that bear and got such good pictures! My main purpose in writing to you, Dee mentioned that she cried a couple times that day - and I totally understand it. When we got off the ship in Juneau and had walked just a few feet, I turned around and looked back at the ship and the mountain on the other side of the inside passage… A huge mountain with a glacier on the top and down the sides - the ice was so blue it was shocking. I had never seen anything like it and it took my breath away and I literally cried. (we also did a four or five day land tour with princess, into Denali staying at two different lodges, and then into Fairbanks with quite a few experiences. there as well that was all included - it was also amazing!) just wanted to say thank you for helping me relive my trip to Alaska. I’m looking forward to closer to home Caribbean type things coming soon - as soon as I can figure out what pools have steps!

I had a bear encounter in Yellowstone some years back and I was definitely not as calm as y'all were but I wasn't on a walk way, nor higher up than the bear - when you choose to keep onwards in the hike and go on to the path I was amazed! I couldn't have done it knowing he/she was that close! What a cool day in Alaska! Love y'all!!

Seriously Dee you might want to rent yourself out to do cruise excursions with people and bring your “Nature Dee” juju for good luck in seeing wildlife. Jay, you could also rent yourself out to provide the “beary” bad jokes and pointers for he “adult arcade”. 😊😊😊

I went to Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget Falls in September, 2019. It was beautiful! A great hike with gorgeous scenery. We saw 2 bears, one crossed the parking lot where the bus dropped us off among all the people. He was not fazed at all by the people, just went on his merry way. Going back to Alaska this September.

Loved this vid guys. We never made it up to the falls, I was too tired and we had to get going back to Radiance. I'll make a point of getting over there the next time. Saw no bears on the bear walk in Sept. We plan on booking Radiance again for Sept. 2024. Our 3rd cruise to Alaska which ranks as our all time favorite along with our Ocean transit over to Hawaii and around the islands. Both A must do for any cruiser. I highly recommend the aft cabins if you can snag one, both of our Alaska cruises we were in the aft. You get 360* from there. Book early as soon as the next season's cruises are posted!!!! To get our excellent locations I had to call at midnight on the morning the schedules were released.

Lordy. Bears are dangerous. My dad and some of his fishing buddies bought a floating cabin on the west side of Vancouver Island. A bear bit threw their septic PVC pipe. I called REI to get advice on a bell for them when they had to go on land to make repairs. They said get him a goat or cow bell because with running water a bear wouldn't hear a bear bell. I got him a goat bell and it worked like a charm.
