After having a bad fall that required a helicopter evac from the 2015 UTMB, Sage Canaday set out to find another 100 mile race where he could test his big mileage abilities. He quickly set his sights on making the 2016 Western States 100 his first official 100 miler.
Managing to maintain 2nd place for the first 62 miles, Sage began to succumb to the toils of the notorious heat. Despite running well below course record for a majority of the race, Sage's day turned from racing the sunset in record time to simply fighting to finish.

Amazing work Ethan! I cannot believe how you edited together the raw footage I saw you shoot (in Boulder training, race day etc.). You really crafted a nice story, added some cool graphics/music, and cut it all together super well. It was great seeing you out there - and even though I didn't have the day I wanted, I have this wonderful memory of my first 100-mile finish to see on the web. Thanks for sharing this journey and for filming me!

I know this comment comes quite late, but I just want to say that it was an excellent video on many levels! Ethan (The Ginger Runner) definitely did an exemplary job with all the raw footage, the editing, and the music -- it is so amazing how he captures the entire experience of 100 miles in only 12 minutes or so! I also love the footage of your parents and Sandi showing such dedicated support. But what I also really appreciate is your willingness to put yourself out there, to be vulnerable and show your struggles, when many athletes often rather want to showcase their successes. Your videos, whether they are about the 5k or ultras, are such an inspiration! Thanks so much and keep it up!

I was so excited and proud to see you tough it out and come in with your head high.... we high-fived on the finish stretch..... I'm so, so proud of you and think you ROCKED IT on an extremely hard day. You WILL be back, I'm confident. Lessons learned. Thanks so much for all you and Sandi are doing. You guys are the BEST.
