I once had the opportunity to make a port tack approach by rounding the port side of a small island upwind of the mark, turning downwind toward the mark along the island’s starboard side, and rounding properly (a 360 degree counterclockwise turn). This move took me from a poor start in the middle of the fleet into 3 rd place. It was so odd and unexpected that I was protested by the boat that was previously in 3rd place (their protest was rejected by the race committee). I did this because it was a low wind day and the tide was at max velocity flowing with the wind in the channel at the mark. I knew the waters well, and saw how slow the leaders were approaching the mark, fighting that tide. The port side of the island had slow current!
thanks I lernd so much it was rele helpful
It would help to read out the rules you are speaking about, but good vid. Without a port tack approach strategy you won't be winning. I sailed as crew for the guru of this approach, always found a hole. Kept his crew in suspense, I must add - had to learn to continue breathing through the whole event - can be quite suspenseful when you are trusting the skipper.
Leave mrs rook alone! She is cool
On Point 5, what rule would be thrown at you if you significantly improved your position by fouling a boat or two at the mark, even if you did your turn(s)? I.e. the one where you would be disqualified?
your intro is so bad ngl
