Rachel was my favorite Bachelorette! So nice to hear her perspective and see she's doing well.

Brian has grown on me! Love these two and Rachel’s honesty is so refreshing.

I do believe that we won’t see another black lead . And why is the interviewer asking the same questions?

Yeah Peter is very Plain looking no offense he seemed nice but I think if Mike was the bachelor they would have gotten more viewers. Taysia should have been chosing last yeah honestly. They need to see more diverse people an Asian girl, Indian or Latina shake it up a little people

Tayshia was perfect and she had a great back story; 28, divorced, she was a great support for Colton. She is black and latina. That being said Mike has zero personality and seems fake. And its not just editing because I follow him on ig and his personality falls flat. I still think they need a black bachelor and they need to be intentional about it.

Peter is a cutie.

Mike as a choice was based on popularity by the people. Chris Harrison even stated that he was the most talked about. I'm done with this franchise. Same boring premeditated lines same boring no personality fake people.

Shes right. It's TRUE and that's really sad, especially from a franchise who claims go be sooo "woke" and "progressive" it has had many opportunities and chose not to.

The interviewer could've asked better questions. Her comments and questions were repetitive.

I want to see Rachel on Survivor. She would be so great at it.

Pilot Pete is safe and appeals to their target audience. Women who watch the Bachelor want a man they can see themselves with, I think that's why most didn't care about Rachel being casted as Bachelorette. I think there could be another Bachelorette that's at least part black. I think the Bachelorette will be very diverse before the Bachelor gets anyone that's not white (yes, Juan Pablo is white and latino).

Why was everyone so convinced Mike should've been the bachelor? I saw no personality, no chemistry with Hannah, getting involved in drama with the guys, and being manipulative by using his tragedy as a way to connect with the lead. Did I miss something? I personally think it has nothing to do with race and everything to do with lack of television appeal.

Okay but what about other races??? Out of all the casts every time they only include one asian man/women and most of the time they don't make it last night one. Same with latinos/latinas with the exception of Juan Pablo, who wasn't white and people throw him under the rug all the time. Diversity doesn't mean just a black lead, its other races as well.

Jordan completely agree! Rachel has said that in other interviews too, just not this one. Asians are horribly underrepresented on this show

They need to add diversity soon before they start really losing viewers. Most of the girls on Peters season are white and blonde so hopefully none of them get the bachelorette position. Also Rachel does know that Sienne has a boyfriend

I'm black and I've always said they picked her because she's socialized white. She grew up in an affluent area, her parents are professionals, she's educated and highly accomplished. She was open to marrying a non-black guy. She's cultured, well spoken and understands the world outside of the black community. She had many white friends and coworkers. The masses could relate to her and the show knew people would accept her. She's black, yes, but I know many black people who wouldn't claim her as a "sista." I love her though. I honestly wish she'd leave the franchise behind her. She's done more for herself than any other contestant. She no longer needs to associate herself with the show. They aren't worthy of her IMO and honestly I feel like the show cheapens her brand. She and Bryan found each other... be grateful for that and keep it moving. The show has never been more people of color. I don't know why people expect the show to morph into something it was never meant to be! They don't want it so leave it alone. Don't watch it if it doesn't represent YOUR idea of what America should be.

Rachel is probably right. Obviously they made the right choice to pick Rachel (and next to Trista the most serious one ever), but idk. Maybe it was a one time stunt. And honestly i would like to see a Asian or Latina bachelor(ette) at this point. Let's close this chapter.

There WILL be another person of color for either Bachelor and/or Bachelorette.

He is white. Latino doesn’t equal non-white. Latino is not a race. You can be still be either white, black, or mestizo.

I'm sorry, but Mike didn't show any personality on BIP. Maybe they decided he wasn't a good fit for the Bachelor. Just because he is nice looking and he has a great smile, doesn't mean he would be entertaining as the lead. It's all about the money. Mike is too nice and wholesome and unfortunately that doesn't make for good TV.

This annoys me. Mike wouldn't have been a good bachelor, plain and simple. He couldn't show any emotion other than smiling. He didn't make any connection. The way he talks about Demi (Lovato) also shows a lot. He isn't fit for the role. Choosing someone who's gonna suck wouldn't help her case. Peter is great and Hannah was amazing. The producers know what they're doing.

What about an asian lead?

So the thing is...its not silly. We could make the same argument about tv shows and magazines. As important as it got Asian, Latin and AA to see them selves on these forums its also impt for ppl from say Iowa, who may rarely encounter a person of color to see them as well. Lest, the assumption be that "only white people" should be and are qualified to be in these roles as they translate to real life.

True Rachel they gave Mike a rotten deal. Won't be watching the new episode

What about another Hispanic? Juan Pablo can not be the one to represent Hispanics. Bring back Roberto Martinez! He is good looking, smart, assertive, a good guy in general.

Love your comment, black folks know they are only on the Batchelor/Bachelorette as spot fillers so why do they continue to apply ? A white guy will never pick a black partner on the show, a white female lead will never pick a guy, they hardly want to kiss on camera.

I am going to take up the cause for Rachel. When she said Diversity she means someone that is not White. That could mean an Asian, a Latino, etc... She named the people she was familiar with. How many Asian Women and Men have been on the show? She named people she knew were already on the show as potential candidates that had made it far. Stop assuming when some Black Person says diversity they only mean Black.

Can we all just get over this. It wasn't Mike's time. Look's are not everything. On Hannah's season all he was worried about was the other men. What they were doing to Hannah. Never focused on there relationship. He was very boring. Stirred up drama. On the Bachlor in Paradise. Mike was very boring. Couldn't hold a good conversation. That's why they started not showing Mike as much. I couldn't imagine Mike holding down a "TV Reality" show. Rachel it's not Black & White !!!!!! Bachlor Nation & producer's look at. You have to be watchable. Put it this way. When the audience is watching the Bachlor at home. You have to make it inviting into your journey. Make us want more & more every week. Be able to be exciting , unexpected moments. Good conversations. I don't think Mike has that. Like I said a pretty face isn't everything. Sorry Peter has the whole package !!!! They chose the right Bachlor this season👍

I don’t think this was about race. Mike came across as one dimensional. It could have been the way he was edited. Is he nice to look at? Yes. But would his personality( or atleast what we were shown) be able to carry an entire season of the Bachelor? No. Peter is the better choice. Please&Thanks

Faith H i actually disagree I don't even remember Peter opening up about a specific hard moment to talk about and if he did it clearly wasn't that memorable. however with mike i would say opening about his break up and his girlfriend's miscarriage with his child was pretty emotional. no hate against Peter but he's just like the rest of (most of) the previous bachelors. just very bland. i think mike really would have made an impact. i'm really glad rachel is speaking out about this to address and spark a conversation about this.

You are outspoken thats for sure. I think sometimes that can be your downfall. You see one-sided and thats it. I'm sure there is a great reason why Peter got the role instead of Mike. I think you should drop it and timing will for sure happen for another Bachelorette or Bachelor of a different nationality will happen. It did't seem like Mike was too upset about their decision and was very happy to see Peter become the next one. So if he is okay with it, I think we all should get over it.

There will be a black bachelor one day but Mike isn’t the right choice. The way he went in for a kiss felt more forced that it should have and rubbed me the wrong way. I was uncomfortable. maybe that’s why people don’t want to have open conversations about it. But there ya go

Could it be Mike doesn't have the Bachelor personality the producers are looking for? Mike is handsome and has a great smile. He seems like a good person. I love how close and sweet he is to his mom and grandma. Other than that, they barely showed him on BiP and that was his opportunity to shine. I felt like I didn't see enough of his personality compared to Peter. I would have been happy with either guy for the Bachelor. I always liked Rachel as a contestant and I knew she was going to be a great Bachelorette before the season aired. Honestly, I'm still on the fence with Mike.

I think the fact that there has been more than 20 bachelor’s and not a single one has been black is questionable to say the least. However, I also think Peter was the perfect choice. Last year Colton got the spotlight for being a virgin, now this year Peter has the spotlight because of what he did in the windmill 4 times. When they are deciding who to pick to be the bachelor or bachelorette they aren’t focused on race but on who can deliver the best and most entertaining season that people will want to watch. Besides Mike has Demi Lovato.

December 2018 I don’t think that anyone is arguing that the people that they pick aren’t good but to imply that there has never been a black man or Asian man or Arab man etc etc in 24 seasons that could deliver an entertaining season is problematic

Perhaps Mike was on a date with demi lavato and chose to do that instead. I'm just saying. Perhaps it wasnt producers choice, but mikes choice. Has anybody considered this?

Stephanie Gentry production never even approached mike he’s stated that multiple times. Once it was clear he wasn’t getting picked is when he began to pursue things with demi. There was a huge gap from when Demi first contacted him to when they went on their first date. And obviously bachelor in paradise was in between that as well

@@bartrese yeah but he and Demi were flirting since he got booted off his season, perhaps producers saw that and weren't thrilled ( given the Jed fiasco I don't blame them for being cautious if that was a reason honestly was a bad look oon their part) and if I were Demi I wouldn't want to be a back up after I dated 30 women either over her. maybe she would have gone on the show for him. but i doubt it and honestly that would have been so predictable. Not defending them by any means because I wanted mike too. I would love to see a black bachelor or an asian bachelor or a hispanic one I also want to see an older one because that would be interesting. Lets not forget everyone else also. I just think there are likely reasons like those or others we dont know about. hence why I want more info from whoever made that decision

First of all I’m a fan of Rachel Lindsay’s season and I’m happy for her & Bryan but I don’t think she should be a advocate for Mike just cause he is african American like her cause african American men if they were in her position they wouldn’t have return that favor to African American women pure and simple. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a black bachelor, I’m just saying it’s not Rachel Lindsay’s or any black Womens responsibility to advocate for them. There have been black bachelor shows already like flavor of love(ghetto black love show) and the ray j black love show, and etc. With the way colorism is used against brown to dark skinned black women especially in the african American community particularly by the men in the in the media and etc(ex. Gilbert arenas comments against lupita nyongo cause she is a dark skinned black Woman). Black women need to read between the lines and know they need to put their energy on themselves only. Lastly I believe Rachel when she said that we are not going to see any black bachelor or bachelorette anytime soon lol. Rachel met that quota and I’m happy for her.

Mike is not the bachelor because of the interview with Lauren Zima....He came off as the "horny steamy bachelor" ... Could be a problem on TV . Peter was all clean, no trouble basically. I think he could have been bachelor ! I hope he is next like most people

No way! Didn't he treat Angela terribly on BIP? I liked him until he got all weird lol an less that was a different guy..

What happened with Mike ?

Why why why do they have to focus on color the black people won't even pick their own so it doesn't mean anything stop complaining just enjoy and move on😚

Ha! You make an obvious point that I was glad to see. All these black people say they want more black people and they go straight towards nonblack for a suitor.

Everyone from Hannah's cast were a bunch of lames. I'm glad Mike isn't the Bachelor and Pilot Peter is lame as well so I won't be watching. I don't care what race the Bachelor is as long as he or she is older and really interested in getting married.

I also wanted Mike to be the next bachelor but i was so disappointed ..

The show is truly becoming monotonous.There is really no diversity considering it is a country like the USA.They should borrow a leaf from Bachelor Australia
