Townes Van Zandt dreamed this song in a drunken slumber. He woke up remembering every lyric and every instrument's part. He took the memory into a recording session that same day and asked his band if any of them had heard the song before. None of them had, so they recorded it. Several other artists have recorded it since, including Emmylou Harris who kills it so sweetly. True talent is a gift.

Jamey got into an accident a few years back. He slipped an fell on the ice and hit his head pretty hard after a recording session. According to him, he can play and sing all of his previously written music. However, his creative side was greatly damaged. This has also caused him to have bouts of depression ,anxiety, and paranoia. I trust he will find his way again.

Jamie Johnson is alive & available to see & hear, he tours as an independent outlaw now. You dont hear him on radio anymore but that's just fine with me b/c I dont listen to the radio anymore! Who needs em?? Surely ain't me. & would rather see him in the up close & personal atmosphere the clubs & smaller venues bring anyway, that setting is soooo much better than any 10, 20, 30 thousand seat arena ever could be

I agree, as a huge Townes Van Zandt fan. Lovely singing. I’m nitpicking here, but I wish they had looked at each other when they sang, rather than appear as if they were total strangers. Oh God bless you. I lnow, like you too I lost that only once in a soul's time love. My Shannon left me and took my heart with her. No one or time will never replace or amend my love for her. In 25 years we were never more than an arms length away from each other. It seems looking back like 25 seconds. Now we are just a heartbeat apart . I love you my Shannon. My favorite version has always been Emmylou and Don Williams, who are my 2 favorite country singer/songwriters of all time. I am mostly old school Willie/Waylon and Merle/Keith Whitley. Love 90s Tim Alan Geoge Garth too. But Jamey's era...he blows anything out of the water!! I just now heard this version and it IS amazing!!! Such a different vibe, emotion, yes like a slow burn...a slow storm rolling in. They are absolutely fantastic harmonizing together and yes this should be on the radio. I don't know her name, but we are missing Jamey!!! I heard him again recently in here and it just nails it!!! ❤❤💙💙
