***PLEASE READ!*** *WIRE-BOTTOMED FLOORS* There are plenty of pet KZread channels that demonize wire-bottom flooring, but they fail to do their research or understand why it is used. It is a common misconception that a GOOD wire-bottomed floor is bad for rabbits. Wire flooring (especially the thick gauge flooring I have) keeps rabbits out of urine and waste at all times, and also aids in adequate ventilation, which prevents disease. Sore hocks, or sore feet, is typically a genetic problem or is caused by soiled living conditions. Rabbits have plush fur on the bottom of their feet and are quite comfortable on the wire. I can assure you that my rabbits do not have sore feet 😊 *CAGE SIZE* The size of my cages is nearly double the amount of space that the American Rabbit Breeders Association recommends. Please note that my rabbits are not considered pets, they are livestock, and they have a job to do. That being said, they do get out frequently to explore my fully-fenced backyard. They have plenty of room to flop and binky (and they do quite often, especially when I come out and talk to them!) *SELF-SUSTAINABILITY* I started raising rabbits for meat because I wanted to stop turning a blind eye to the life of the animal in the grocery store. Raising your own meat is a real eye-opener and it makes me so much more grateful for what they do for us. Instead of paying for a factory farm to raise my meat in crowded or unsanitary conditions, I get to let my meat rabbits graze on grass, have room to run, and live their days being happy. If you are a vegetarian or vegan, I commend you as well, because we are both making a positive impact on our world. *PROTECTION FROM THE ELEMENTS* Since building my hutch, I have weatherized it (and winterized in winter) Please feel free to watch my recent videos to see how the rabbits are protected from the elements. *HAY AND ENRICHMENT* A lot of people have made comments on how I don't give my rabbits hay, and it just makes me laugh. My garage has a wall stacked with haybales, and we go through A LOT. The rabbits get free choice hay all the time. They also get toys and chew sticks often. Just because you can't see it in this ONE video doesn't mean it doesn't happen 😉

Hey Tiffany! We are planning to buy the KW Cages to do this amazing hutch but don't know if to upgrade the flooring to pvc coated or galvanized gauge 14 like you since it's only $9 in difference. What is the difference between these floorings????

@@fjsp3261 either of these options are great! Just keep in mind the you won’t be able to torch PVC coated wire, if that’s a way you were planning on cleaning them 😊

You did an absolutely gorgeous job! My bunnies are jealous! Thank you for all you do to share your journey and knowledge with the rest of us!
Your husband is one very lucky man! and my ego as a man has now been bruised, seeing how much better of a builder you are than me lol. Love your videos, Tiffany take care.!
I enjoyed watching this build, and I slowly fell in love with it all. Then, you showed it lit up at night, so now it’s a must have because that was just beautiful. I watch so many channels because I’m new to all of this and am interested in growing our own food for many reasons, with high priority being the happiness and well being of my critters. I have watched so many that stuff animals into such a small space and I cringe. While I appreciate the endless amounts knowledge they bring to the table, I am loving that you also thought about the happiness of your rabbits. This is by far my favorite set up I’ve seen and I’ve been binge watching rabbit hutches today. Thanks for sharing. Now I have to locate the upgrade video because we do get pretty cold winters here.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the build Tammy!! I care very much about my rabbits' happiness. We are currently building a brand new setup for them at our new property, but this hutch has a special place in my heart :)
A suggestion to extend the life of your hard work. Place each of the legs on a paver stone or even just a red brick. The pine you used will absorb moisture being in contact with the ground (even though it's painted). Pine will begin to rot within a couple of years, if it's constantly moist. You may also want to treat the bottom 12" of each leg with a water sealant, each year.

I have the front legs standing on wood boards right now but in the long term I would love to find some concrete! 😊 water sealing is a good idea.
I’ve watched hundreds of rabbit related videos and…this woman is GORGEOUS! Seriously. Kudos to her husband for winning the lottery 😆
Hey sis, love from Bangladesh, I watch all of ur videos. I really like ur rabbits cage and I will also told that how creative person you are. I think, you have liberal heart. That's why, you take care ur rabbits, chickens, dogs and garden. and I'm also feeding a rabbits pair.. I'm really impressed..
I absolutely love this. I will be starting a new cage build in the next couple of weeks and was struggling on what I wanted but I absolutely love this. I will definitely be fashioning mine after yours. Ohhh and the LED lights. Love them and are now a must.
Thanks for not only this video but the plans and links too. I ordered the same cages as you, and KW was even willing to make them out of 1/2 x 1 wire on the walls and ceiling too. This is important as we have a lot of rat snakes here. This is a great design.
Wow! Very nice! The new hutch is beautiful, and I love the lights! Congrats on a job well done.

The most important thing that I have noticed is how you enjoyed this build. This is what homesteading and living is about. Make the things that make your life and life of your animals better! You did a very good job! Do add a gutter for rain collection as it will provide you with most amazing water for your rabbits.
This is the nicest hutch I've seen...thank you
Thanks for such a detailed video on a great build - I'm going to use it as a basis for my new quail coop build! Also, it's great to see one that isn't built with a workshop full of power tools!

That looks amazing, that is the style of hutch I would to build when I get into rabbits on our homestead. You can handle more rabbits in a smaller footprint. I remember when my dad had 2 like that facing each other with the roof tying them together making covered aisle between. It was nice when it was raining and doing chores. Great build, will be looking for the plans and any updates. Thank you for sharing.

I love all your DIY builds. I really want to know how your rabbits do in thunderstorms. I live in Florida and would really love to build this in my backyard but am worried when we get sudden thunderstorms with rain literally going sideways. No problem with cold just don't want wet rabbits. Thanks so much!!
Those LED lights are pretty cool. Great build!
Just a thought. Get some tin , bend it accordingly and then slope from middle to outside to roll droppings to one end to drop and collect them in a bin. Both levels can be collected in one bin if set right.

Why not just use solar to power your fans and lights. Nice layout, but I think they need more room to run. I installed airborne tunnels between my hutches. I used half inch wire cloth and zip ties, in case you are interested. They are predator proof to. My rabbits love the freedom to run and play. Just a thought...

@@Massholeswife oh yes, sometimes it can be hard. I dote at them so much when they’re babies!! But around 5-6 weeks I try to detach myself from them and let them grow more, then when they’re around 10 weeks old I look at them objectively, as workers. Who’s the strongest? Who can improve my herd? Who isn’t going to help my herd? It’s these questions that guide me on who to keep. And of course, after I choose someone to stay, they go back to being spoiled 😊 sometimes the cutest rabbit isn’t the best to keep. But it’s great when it is 😁

If you can assemble the KW cages with J-clips you can custom make your own cages for much less cost. Feed stores sell J-clips and cage wire in 50 foot rolls. The only tools you need are diagonal cutters and J-clip- pliers which you already have.
