    A question about the hare's death; when you approach the bird who is on the hare, is the hare simply in a 'frozen' state, and you kill it, then let the bird have a nice, but not full, feed? Or, do you do a fairly Quick trade off?

    Damn that hawk's impressive. They've got a better success rate than using a gun. No way could you track a hare through that thick brush while using a rifle or shotgun and successfully hit your mark more than 70% of the time if that. But that hawk gets every one. It's no wonder people use them to hunt when they're that efficient.

    What is the success rate, i.e. what percentage are misses when a rabbit escapes a goshawk? Can the dogs catch a rabbit on their own, without the goshawk, or it is mainly misses (by the dogs)?

    Actually in my mother family there was a very efficient hunter animal that her father used to hunt with,his name was Neron and he was a huge male Siberian tiger!He had about 100% success with rabbits because he was unbelievably persistent and actually as those were his favourite meal-he sometimes even dug rabbits out of the burrows just completely getting himself below the ground in several minutes:mom recalled that it was really hilarious to see just a huge tail above the ground and just chunks of soil flying out of the pit until the short squeal,a loud crunch and a satisfied yet dirty huge cat face re-surfaces with a rabbit in jaws! Yet with hares his success was not the best:they were his pain in the ass due to their enormous speed that actually almost matched his top speed but the hare could maintain that speed for many kilometres while Neron was running out of stamina much faster..Yet whenever he got one-he was clearly enjoying as they suffered:he obviously could kill them immediately after catching,simply by crushing the scull which was for him something like a piece of cereal for us,but instead he always caught their hind legs and bitten them right off,and after resting for a while from the chase-he ate them tail to head but usually alive which was clearly done in order to see them suffering..

    How often does the Rabbit escape? Is the kill rate close to 100%? Only escaping if it has a hole near by? What about under brush?

  • @dalemews1

    @dalemews1

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Brandon LastName The kill rate must be around 90%. The rabbits quite often make it to cover or find a hole to make good their escape.
