In this episode, we discuss the disproportionate success of Jews with money and how to increase revenue. Rachel Marshall, Bruce Weiner, and Rabbi Daniel Lapin consider the intellectual elite's and government's move to demonize money and how money gives people independence. We also explore the spiritual meanings of money, the idea of money being spiritual, and how understanding this concept can benefit us financially. Additionally, we discuss the importance of teaching children about money and the spiritual and biblical principles of increasing wealth.
Money is often confused, misunderstood, and classified as part of our basic, natural, carnal human nature. But money - including understanding, earning, using, managing, and growing money - is spiritual.
Today, Rabbi Daniel Lapin, author of Thou Shall prosper, explains why and how you can improve your finances with this one simple mindset shift. Tune in now to join the conversation!

    I always gain a lot of knowledge from the rabbi however, the first thing I would like to point out is that the government is in my view equivalent to the referee in a boxing match. no one would disagree that you need a referee because if in the middle of a boxing match, someone Mike Tyson no pun intended, might bite the other guy to get the advantage. and if there's no referee, people will just say oh well. he won the boxing match by his own means. but if the rules are set I.e the government gives you certain rules to play by wherein you can make all the profit you want to make, but you need to pay the referee in order to make the game what it is. I think the rabbi over simplifies this he doesn't speak about the fact that taxes are critical to pay for our infrastructure that the wealthy used to get from place to place. we want our trucking companies to be able to deliver. however, the roads cannot be dilapidated so we pay taxes and it is great that we do that because that's just the cost of being able to be in the game. otherwise the opposite will be a free-for-all where everybody does their own thing, their no rules, etc. so I agree with a lot of what he says. but I think this issue of taxes. I think he's wrong in his characterization because Eileen heavily towards the importance of taxes cuz I make good money and it doesn't matter that I'm paying a little more in taxes. I know that I'm blessed and privileged to be in a country where I can not only earn as much as I want, but my fellow man doesn't get paid directly from me. they get paid in terms of what do in my service but the fact that taxes come out and my roads in my neighborhood are very smooth and I don't have wires going over the top of my head but they're buried. underground is a result of my hard work in taxes and I'm okay with that

  • @TheMoneyAdvantage

    Thank you for watching! We do not disagree that we need rules, but the rules need to apply equally to everyone. We also do not have a problem with taxes, but I think where we may or may not disagree is on the level of taxation, what services we want the government to provide, and whether we are getting the quality of services we should for the amount of taxes we are paying.

    Thank You Rabbi Daniel Lapin, Rachel and Bruce for the great stream! What I meant by my questions second part which I assume requires a bit of clearance if not a lot but, In terms of spiritual wise, and approaching money from a spiritual side, how/ is it needed to put an emphasis on or to emphasise (generally) or specifically towards to the ones we love, In our families, our children that "money" itself is a tool only, that it's for every-day usage in terms of errands, payments, etcetera but money (how much they have/earn/etc) is not something (the money) that one shall be/will be judged by different societies/in certain communities. What are the spiritual message of money in this terms and that how to find that sort of balance that will/helps those in needs to understand this. e.g: "collect moments not things" --> itself sounds quite spiritual, right? BUT let's take Hanukkah as an example. In my family, we give gelts, from the perspective of someone or a child seems as even if it's chocolate but still represents money (because of its forms and its look). On the other hand, there were times or there are times we receive a good Kosher wine, which from a children perspective seems a "different gift" and sees the reactions on faces, either positive/negative, but might starts to consider - where does that gift comes from or with what was that gift acquired by - money. So is it possible, to catch or to help understand people that money is more of a tool to acquire things than to cause happiness with it? From spiritual perspective how do we balance this phenomenon? Thank you very much! Marshall,

    Thank you for watching! I am not clear on your question, but we must first establish that money is both physical and spiritual, as humans are both physical and spiritual. Money is a problem when you assign intrinsic value to it. Money, in and of itself, was not meant to be the end goal but rather all the good you can do with it. Money in its proper place is the natural byproduct of all the good people have done in the world, the effect, not the cause. Money is a receipt that says value has been delivered. It represents all the value that has been created for and by people but has no intrinsic value itself. This reveals money's true nature. Money is amoral/neutral, neither good nor bad. Money is a magnifier of your soul and will make you more of who you already are, thus revealing your true character. Money is neutral/amoral, neither good nor bad. It will magnify your soul and make you more of who you already are. It is good, then, that humans desire more money in that the only ethical way to obtain it is to serve God's other children. Money as long as it's kept in its proper place: 1) Love God 2) Love Others 3) By doing 1 & 2 serve God's other children and acquire money. If we are keeping money in its proper place, then we should desire to expand our capacity and serve at our highest potential by exchanging value with others through peaceful trade. You do this by living in alignment with the following principles: money is the byproduct of value creation by and for others, people have intrinsic value not money, and money is meant to be used. Stop limiting yourself by being miserly and hoarding and be willing to invest/spend money on yourself and others. Genesis 2:12: "And the gold of that land is good..." To intentionally limit your wealth potential because you believe seeking greater wealth is immoral, in turn, limits the value you create for other people. If money is just a tool to meet our needs, then we will put a limit on our value creation and service to God's other children. When you realize prosperity is worth pursuing, then you can reach your fullest potential by creating massive value for as many people as you can serve. Genesis 2:12 (NASB): "The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there as well. " If wealth is limitless because of the infinite opportunities for value creation, then we need to assign a new definition to money at the idea stage to create different results in our life: desiring money is not evil. Does giving gifts to others bring you happiness? Does creating value and serving God's other children bring you happiness?

    These people love money.. they think it's actually spiritual.. compare their schemes to what the apostles did.. and how the apostles lived and died.. Watch how they live and talk, then compare it to what the apostles did and how they lived . It's easy to judge their words.. and actions.. against the word of God and you can see thru them easily..

    Thank you for watching! Are you suggesting that focusing on others’ needs and desires and then figuring out how to provide them a lot of value is evil? Are you suggesting this method of bringing people together in relationships and collaboration through peaceful trade is an unethical way to obtain wealth? Money represents the value created by and for others. Are you suggesting money is bad?

    Money is the root of all evil

  • @TheMoneyAdvantage

    @TheMoneyAdvantage

    Thank you for watching! Isn’t it interesting how on the one hand we hold this belief about money, yet on the other hand, most of us spend half or more of our waking hours chasing money? When our actions contradict our beliefs, this creates massive mental stress in our lives. The dilemma lies in the fact that, we go to school anywhere from twelve to twenty-plus years of our life, yet we never learn what money is, how to get it, or what to do with it. Then we go out into the world and spend most of our time trying to get the very thing we hardly know anything about. “Money is not evil. IGNORANCE about money is evil.” - Robert Kiyosaki The belief that “the love of money” is the root of all evil comes from the Bible, but what does the Bible really say about the love of money? 1 Timothy 6:9-10 (NASB): 9 But those who want (boulomai/to will) to get rich (plouteó) fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money (philarguria/avarice) is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 (The Message Translation): 9 But if it’s only money these leaders are after, they’ll self-destruct in no time. 10 Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after. Reading these English translations, it would appear that the “love of money” is bad, but to really understand what is being said here, we will dive a little deeper and look at what it means in context and in the original language. Let’s start with the Amplified Translation as it says in English more clearly what was meant in the original Greek manuscripts. 1 Timothy 6:9-10 (Amplified Translation) 9 But those who [are not financially ethical and] crave to get rich [with a compulsive, greedy longing for wealth] fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction [leading to personal misery]. 10 For the love of money [that is, the greedy desire for it and the willingness to gain it unethically] is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves [through and through] with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:9 Definitions: TO WILL Thayer’s Greek Dictionary: 1. to will deliberately, have a purpose, be minded 2. of willing as an affection, to desire HELPS Word-studies 1014 /boúlomai ("resolutely plan") is a strong term that underlines the predetermined (and determined) intention driving the planning (wishing, resolving). We can see from this that boulomai indicates the continuing desire of some people, in this case to get riches. In this context it represents their consuming and driving passion, their sole life purpose. 1 Timothy 6:10 Definitions: AVARICE (Love of Money) Vines Dictionary (Greek) philarguria (Noun): Money (Love Of) from phileo, "to love," AND arguros, "silver," occurs in 1Ti 6:10 (compared to philarguros, "covetous, avaricious"). Trench contrasts this with pleonexia[1], "covetousness." See under COVET, COVETOUSNESS Thayer’s Greek Lexicon STRONGS NT 5365: love of money, avarice Merriam-Webster Avarice: excessive or insatiable (incapable of being satisfied) desire for wealth or gain. A more formal synonym for greed, avarice has a long if uncomplicated history in English. Chaucer in his 14th-century The Parson's Tale compared avarice with covetise, a now obsolete word that means "covetousness" ("Covetise is to covet such things as thou hast not; AND avarice is to withhold and keep such things as thou hast, without rightful need"-743) Both the Vines Greek Dictionary and Merriam Webster compare Avarice to Covetousness, so let’s look up covetousness as well to get a better understanding. COVETOUSNESS Vines Dictionary (Greek) Pleonexia (Noun): Covet, Covetous, Covetousness: "covetousness," lit., "a desire to have more" (pleon, "more," echo, "to have"), always in a bad sense. See EXTORTION. Note: Trench, Syn. 24, points out the main distinction between1 pleonexia and philarguria as being that between covetousness and avarice. Pleonexia having a much wider and deeper sense, being "the genus of which philarguria is the species." The "covetous" man is often cruel as well as grasping, WHILE THE avaricious man is simply miserly (hating to spend money) and stinting. Merriam-Webster Covetousness: marked by inordinate(exceeding reasonable limits) desire for wealth or possessions or for another's possessions Pleonexia: A philosophical concept which roughly corresponds to greed, covetousness, or avarice, and is strictly defined as "the insatiable desire to have what rightfully belongs to others", suggesting what Ritenbaugh describes as "ruthless self-seeking AND an arrogant assumption that others and things exist for one's own benefit". ~ John W. Ritenbaugh (January 1998). "Forerunner". The Tenth Commandment. So, we can see that “the love of money” is avarice, an excessive or insatiable desire for money. This desire is insatiable when, in the depths of a person’s being, money is more important than God and others. So, what the Bible is saying in 1 Timothy 6:9-10 is that loving money inordinately, in a selfish way, is the root of all sorts of evil, and people who make money their God/Master will likely suffer. If you really do love money, there's something wrong with that. That’s just weird. On the other hand, loving the process of making money is a great thing, because obtaining money through peaceful trade is one of the best ways to help a lot of other people. When your goal is simply to accumulate it, and when you love money more than you love God and people, there is a misaligned priority that produces all sorts of harmful ways of acting and being. In this way, “loving money” assigns undue value to money in and of itself, not to what it represents, which is the value created by and for others. This thinking is rooted in scarcity, and drives an accumulation-based focus, which can lead to hoarding and the feeling that one never has enough money. John McArthur’s Danger Signs of Loving Money (in a bad way): 1. Those who love money are more concerned with making it than with honesty, or giving a quality effort. 2. Those who love money never have enough. 3. Those who love money tend to flaunt it. 4. Those who love money resent giving it. 5. Those who love money will often sin to get it. Now let’s talk about the Author, Paul, who was a businessman. While he was a minister and wrote much of the New Testament, he also was a tentmaker. His tent-making meant that he did not have to take money from churches to support his ministry. If he did not have to take money from churches then it would follow that his tent-making business was a profitable enterprise, and more importantly, he desired to make a profit. Clearly, Paul did not believe you should not desire to accumulate money. He is warning against an unhealthy desire for it and our need to keep it in its proper place. He said a few verses earlier: 1 Timothy 6:7 (NLT): 7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. If you cannot take anything with you when you leave this Earth, then how important is what you leave behind? Proverbs 13:22 (NASB): A good person leaves an inheritance to his grandchildren,
And the wealth of a sinner is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 19:14 (NASB): House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers,
But a prudent wife is from the Lord. Money is a great tool to build teams, whether that be a business, a family, or a church. For any of these enterprises to be successful they must consider the people that make up the enterprise their greatest assets. Money is the tool to grow and invest in the people. So, it would logically follow that growing both wealth and people while on this Earth is a noble effort and part of God’s plan for us on this Earth.

    CONTINUED: If you can love money in the wrong way, then can you love it in the right way? Jesus was asked what the most important commandment is (Mark 12:28-31). His response was essentially, love God and love others, and that there is no greater commandment than these. Mark 12:28-31 (NASB): 28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” In order of priority, we must love and serve God first. Then, we must love and value the masterpiece that God made us to be, to be able to love and value others. Any other loves must be subservient to these. You could take this one step further to mean that if you place more value on money than you do people, ultimately you don’t really value and love yourself, which limits the value and love you can give others. Think about it this way, if I said, “I love apple pie”, would anyone ever consider that I love apple pie more than my spouse, or God? I don’t think so. I only eat apple pie a few times a year, so no one would consider it an inordinate love of apple pie. If ate it every day for all my meals, then it would be inordinate, and one then might believe that I love apple pie more than my spouse. To intentionally limit your wealth potential because you believe seeking greater wealth is immoral, in turn, limits the value you create for other people. There are two main ways to get money. Either you get it by taking it, or you get it by making it. In order to make money, you have to please other people, because you cannot force them to give you their money. Only the government can do that, and it’s called taxation. The rest of us, if we want to acquire money, we have to please people called our customers. And that's a good thing. ~ Rabbi Daniel Lapin You know you are loving money in a bad way when you value money over people. This happens when you assign intrinsic value to money. Money was not meant to be the end goal but rather all the good you can do with it. Money in its proper place is the natural byproduct of all the good people have done in the world, the effect not the cause. Money is a receipt that says value has been delivered. It represents all the value that has been created for and by people but has no intrinsic value itself. This reveals moneys true nature. Money is an inanimate object and neutral, neither good nor bad. Money is a magnifier of your soul and will make you more of who you already are, and thus reveal your true character. So, it’s not that we cannot love money, but that our love of money must not be above our love of God and people, and must not be in a bad way. But you might ask, how do you justify wealth? Ok, let’s turn that around, how you justify poverty? If you have more than enough money to survive, many of life's problems, stop being problems, they turn into expenses. Do you really think God wants you to be stressed out about money all the time? Ok, but does God want you to be rich? Now, I'm not saying God wants you to be rich, but I am saying that what God wants is for you to be blessed. Let me give you an example. Does God want you to experience sensual ecstasy of the highest order? And the answer is that God has not shared that information with me. So, I don't really know if he wants you to have great experiences of that kind. But here's what I do know. And that is that he wants each man to marry a woman. And he wants each woman to be married to a man, and he wants the man and the woman to form something called marriage, which is a holy state. It's a union. And it's in that state, that every report and every study indicates that men and women find the greatest sensual bliss. So why would it surprise me that a good and loving God would incentivize us to follow his instructions? He says I want you to marry, it's not good for men to be alone, I want you to marry, every man must marry a woman, every woman must marry a man. And guess what, if you do that, you're not going to be sorry? Provided you run that marriage on biblical lines. Now we look at money. Does God want you to be rich? Well, he hasn't shared that information with me. So, I don't know if he wants you to be rich. But here's what I do know, he wants you and me to be obsessively preoccupied with the needs and the desires of all his other children. And it doesn't surprise me in the least, that a good and loving boss, incentivizes us to do his wishes, with the great blessing of financial abundance and financial prosperity. That's right because you can call it marketing, you can call it sales and all those things are important. But they all boil down to a single basic idea. You to find ways to please other human beings. And when you do that, guess what, they pay you for your services or the goods you supply. And you enjoy the blessing of financial abundance, which is God's reward, not for praying hard, and not for saying, God, please send me a Ferrari. No, It's for obeying God's wishes to take care of the needs and the desires of all his other children. ~ Rabbi Daniel Lapin The proper love of money then, would be the desire to expand your capacity and serve at your highest potential by exchanging value with others through peaceful trade. You do this by living in alignment with the following principles: money is the byproduct of value creation by and for others, people have intrinsic value not money, and money is meant to be used. Stop limiting yourself by being miserly and hoarding and be willing to invest/spend money on yourself and others. When you realize prosperity is worth pursuing then you can reach your fullest potential by creating massive value for as many people as you can serve. If wealth is limitless because of the infinite opportunities for value creation, then we need to assign a new definition to money at the idea stage to create different results in our life: desiring money is not evil. “What if you had been taught that wealth and prosperity are literally what eliminate poverty and human suffering in this world, and that making money equals not some kind of a spiritual defect, but can actually be the highest form of contribution when you get it right? What if at an early age these concepts had been proven to you, not just taught theoretically, but actually proven to you in the real world, and you had been encouraged by everyone around you to develop and apply your unique talents to the creation of wealth, by creating immense value for the people around you?” - John Butcher, Lifebook
