Cross Pav I don't know about the GTR, but most of today's performance cars are just packed with electronic assistance systems that prevent you from doing anything too stupid. To me this has nothing to do with good engineering, it's just brute force overriding the driver's inputs. But as I said, the GTR may be different.

Cross Pav Don't get me wrong, I didn't say it's a bad thing. It just isn't a sign of good engineering. A few years ago car manufacturers had to come up with truly ingenious solutions if they wanted to achieve a well handling car. Take the old Focus Mk.1 RS as an example - the suspension was so well designed, people were astonished how well the car could corner (famous quote by Jeremy Clarkson: "This car handles like it's in a cartoon."). Today they just jam in more and more electronics in order to make high-powered cars driveable, but the actual results can't hold a candle to true engineering. I recently watched a test where they took an Audi RS3 to the track. After two or three laps, the tires went to waste, because the electronics were constantly struggling and intervening to keep the car on the road, creating uneven, asymetrical and extensive wear. That shows that this is a badly designed car in terms of old-school engineering. But sadly, this is exactly what people want these days. Cars take all the driving work off their shoulders so they can just floor the gas pedal and feel like pro racing drivers.

That being said, I was merely reflecting on how the term "engineering" has been watered down during the last years. But yes, I do think it's a bad thing that today's sports cars are designed to enable every idiot to feel like a pro.

Sorry to burst your bubble, that guy should NOT be allowed on track , or even by his basic steering behaviour which is ridiculous, allowed to drive a car. Who on earth leans his arm on the door or on the seat mid corner, seriously? Looking at your fancy computer screen (probably to get all the notifications of the stability control overheating or something) while overtaking a car, and mostly, as mentioned to the point of boredom: on trackdays, especially in the UK, you are supposed to overtake "by consent", meaning in a STRAIGHT line, after the driver in front of you indicated clearly that he has seen you.
