*சிறு வயதில் சந்திரலேகா படம் சன் டிவியில் முதன் முதலில் பார்த்தபோது என் அப்பா சொல்லி கேட்டேன் ரஞ்சன் திரையில் வரும்போது ரஜினி கமல் விஜய் அஜித் க்கு போன்று பணமும் கலர் காகிதமும் அள்ளி வீசுவார்களாம் ரசிகர்கள். MGR என்னும் சகாப்தம் ஒரு வகையில் ரஞ்சன் என்னும் மாபெரும் கலைஞரின் வீழ்ச்சிக்கு காரணம். தமிழ் திரை துறையில் நடந்த அரசியல் சூழ்ச்சிகளால் அன்று ரஞ்சன் இந்தி திரை துறைக்கு சென்றார் அங்கும் வெற்றி வாகை சூடினார். ஏனோ சில காரணங்களால் அமெரிக்கா நியூ ஜெர்சியில் தங்கி இருந்து மாறடைப்பில் இறந்தார். இன்றைய கமலஹாசனின் முன்னோடி பல்துறை வித்தகர். சந்திர லேகா படத்தில் ரஞ்சனின் அழகும் நடிப்பும் அபாரமாக இருக்கும்* என்னைக்குமே நம்ம மக்கள் அடுத்த மாநிலத்துகாரர்களை தான் தலையில் தூக்கி வைத்து மக்கள் திலகம் சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் என்று கொண்டாடுவார்கள். உண்மை தமிழனுக்கு இங்கு மதிப்பில்லை

Ranjan (Venkataramana Sharma) was a learned person. Also he was a rare personality who knew piloting aircraft, horse riding, dance, fencing, boxing, multiple languages, Shorthand, penning lyrics, music, oratory skills, etc. Perhaps he was the first hero to perform Villain role too. One and only Tamil actor whose performance is worth seeing before arrival of MKT, Sivaji, MGR, Kamal, Rajini etc. None of them can match his skills. But there were no directors or screen play writers available at that time to use his talent. Till date his talent is unmatched. While other actors had one or two talents, he had multiple talents. Like S.V.Ranga Rao he was well educated and that makes a difference. The only exceptional actor without formal education I think is Dileep Kumar. But he learnt his skills while working in office, before joining films.

He's the first South Indian actor to make a big name in Hindi films. He was more famous in Hindi than in Tamezh cinema. But the later generation never got to know about him. Because both the North as well as the Tamezh media ignored his achievements. This is the sad state of affairs for ALL Tamezh artistes. Tamezh film industry gives more preference to Malayalee, Taelugu and Kannada artistes while the North Indian media always downplays the achievements of Tamilian artistes. Ranjan never gets a mention among old Hindi actors. Vyjayanthemaala was always considered as less than Nargis, Meena Kumari or Madhubala. Hema Malini was the first female superstar of Hindi films but the Hindi film media always claims that Sridevi was the first female superstar.

Rajan was a skilled photographer and highly qualified person. It was the cinematographer Bannerji who called him Ranjan. The story goes that the moment the cinematographer had seen him for the first time ,spontaneously called him " come on my boy Ranjan Ghosh " . Since Ranjan liked the name it got stuck with him

I think you know more about him from the start. Such valuable informations on the versatile actor may please be added. During school days I heard he used to visit one of his close relative's family in Kumbakonam. Beyond that I do not know much about the great hero of the Indian cinema, because of the blacklisting policy of the press.

If I'm not mistaken I have in cinema magazine that he represented India in the Olympic

Ranjan and his doctor wife moved to the US and start a dance school there, ranjan passed away in the US in the state of new jersey at age 65 which is the age for too early to die☹️... In those days ranjan was the only University Graduate Actor, Pilot so on and so forth.. sad its all political that kick him to the curb..😞😭

There is absolutely no relationship between them. But, as you thought, similarities such as some striking resemblance in facial features/gestures, physical anatomy and in walking style exist between Ranjan and Arjun. I too felt like you once. Such similarities are rare and it is said that 7 people may look almost alike in the whole world. Even Kannada superstar Rajkumar and Ranjan were resembling each other to a certain extent. Regards.
