Fun fact: Backseat seat belts are less about keeping you from going through the windshield and more about keeping you from breaking your entire face and scrambling your brain against the seat in front of you. You know, because there are NO AIR BAGS on the back of the front seats. You might have a low chance going through the windshield but there is nothing protecting you from getting gruesomely mangled as you're tossed around the car like a stuffed toy owned by a toddler prone to violent tantrums. Nothing but a seatbelt that is.

Not mention the fact that was also mentioned in the video that humans are super heavy relatively speaking the weights mentioned in the vid are between 112.5 kg and 135 kg which would be be a lot even for some of my height (192 cm) let alone someone of average height though relatively speaking even average weight of 55 kg to 77 kg is a lot when on a loose projectile and having that much mass slam into the seat on front of your is not gonna do good things to the seat or the person sitting on said seat.

There was an ad campaign here in GB in -iirc the early 90s- 2000, where it had a rear seat passenger killing the driver because they weren't wearing a seatbelt (back in the 20th century we did do some really great adverts). Rea seat belts are for both the safety of that passenger AND the person seated in front of them. Let me see if I can find that advert now... *EDIT* corrected year

Can confirm, that's exactly what happened to me when I was five, because some douchebag hit us going 70-80mph in a 40mph zone Those TBI's are NOT fun to recieve, they screw you up big time. Wear your seatbelts kids, nobody likes being forced to take medication(s) for the rest of their lives and have restricted freedom to go or do what they want all because of some stupid decision... be it on your own behalf or someone elses.

The first story reminds me of: There was a king with three daughters. All three wanted to be married, so he said that whichever daughter loved him the most would be allowed to marry. The first daughter said, “Oh, Daddy, I love you more than gold!” The second said, “Oh Daddy, I love you more than diamonds!” And the third said, “Oh, Daddy, I love you more than salt!” The king said, “Salt?! Well, I’ll make my decision between the first two daughters in a week.” That night, the king sat down to his nightly feast, but something tasted… off… about his food. He shrugged it off, but over the entire week, he was never happy with his food. Finally, the day of his decision rolled around. About the zero salt story, one of my friends parents actually did that. When they where younger, his mom was told that he needed to cut down on salt, and heard that less salt was good. therefore, no salt was also good, right? well... after a week or two of litteraly no salt in his food, he was getting worse, so they had to take him to the doctor. Guess what, you do need some salt in your food because yes, you do get sick without any salt

Yeah. Salt is litterally the thing that signals the contraction for your muscles. If you no longer have sodium to signal contractions, you no longer have a beating heart. Sodium is also a neurotransmitter, and without it, your brain starts sending signals wildly without anything to stop them, which is by definition, a seizure.

that’s why there’s salt alternatives that give some salt but not the same as regular salt. the real way the diets work is via the amounts from prepackaged foods where it’s known, eating less of those cuts down the vast majority of salt leaving you enough to flavor foods but not outright cut out flaboring

I was thinking it was underwear that she was free-bleeding in for a while. That would have soaked them pretty well. Depending on how heavy her period is, it could have soaked them to the point of ruining them. So more than a little leak. Just no protection whatsoever. I’ve never had the underwear with washable pads in them have a bad smell, but I also have never left them in a bag for several days. Just seems like free-bleeding on regular underwear would be even more disgusting than washable-pad underwear. Though, either way would be damn gross, lol.

There's an added bit to the Sally story. OP only know her because she's friends with Sally's husband. He said she uses salt regularly at home & isn't on a no salt diet nor any other diet. Like the comments before mine Sally just likes being the center of attention.

I once had an internship with a department of a major auto company that handled their accident litigation and one of the engineers told me that "seat belts are what make the rest of the safety devices work", crumple zones, air bags, and what ever else they've added since all hinge on you being belted so that you stay "with" the car rather than go flying about.

Everybody in my car wears a seat belt or the car doesn't move. If they still refuse, they walk to their destination. No exceptions.

Having seen first hand the result of someone not wearing their seat belt, very good stance to take. It's not even just for their safety. You get into an accident at even legal speeds, it has the potential to throw everyone around like pinballs in the car and even a child can do a surprising amount of damage when thrown at someone else.

My brother often insists on not wearing seatbelts. I used to put up with it and let him roll without until I got my windows busted out. I had also hit a deer the previous week, so my car looked raggedy as heck, and looked stolen as well, so I got pulled over by police more than once. After I got pulled over with him in the car no seat belt, I stopped allowing it. I got lucky that the officer didn't notice. He doesn't ask me for rides much anymore.

I’m surprised they didn’t mention the legality issue in the seatbelt thing. The driver can get in trouble and have to pay a fine of their passenger(s) aren’t wearing their seatbelt.

They teach this in drivers ed in my state. "If your passanger doesn't have a seatbelt you get fined." We learn the habit of checking to make sure everyone has a seatbelt on.

They used to have the same rule here, but I believe it’s been changed and now the person not wearing the seatbelt gets the fine. I’m not sure if the drive gets one too though.

Newer cars with fins like antennas on the top send live reports to insurance and law enforcement when seatbelts are not being worn. I think that for a one time ride her husband could have made himself a bit uncomfortable and sat in the back. The seat belts in back seats of cars are actually smaller because they're meant for kids and car seats. Just seems rude because that woman was not wanting to wear the belt because of her size and OP had no empathy or hospitality.

Because of thyroid cancer, I’ve had to receive radioactive iodine to test where it is and that requires you to go on a LID (low iodine diet) for quite a long time. Meaning you can hardly have any salt (and it has to have low iodine, or has to be very specific and you can only eat so much a day). You also have serious restrictions on what you can and can’t eat. Like no dairy, only so much meat, you can’t eat some veggies or can only eat a certain amount of some, etc. The last time I was on the diet they failed to get me set up for a scan on time so In total I had to wait over a month. It’s emotionally taxing, physically taxing. It feels like you slowly get weaker and weaker, it becomes harder to move, you lose more and more appetite because the food is gross and you get sick of consuming the same thing over and over again. So Sally really really didn’t know what she was talking about lol.

as a tow truck driver, let me put a very graphic story here. a jeep cherokee flipped and the back 4 passengers weren't wearing seatbelts. one of the rear passengers was ejected through the front windshield causing bluntforce trauma to the front passenger, killing them. the other 3 in the back were ejected through other windows with one landing UNDER the overturned vehicle and the other over 200 meters away. the driver survived. forensics found that all 6 would most likely be alive if they had been wearing seatbelts.

@@reaper07live i own the company, my drivers in particular know if i see them OR A PASSENGER in one of my trucks without a seatbelt they will be fired on sight.

Op’s in laws who didn’t want to wear the seat belts made me really mad. My grandma lived through the times wear seatbelts rules weren’t as strict, and occasionally never wore her seatbelt even when the rules were changed. When I was 10, she got into a car crash after taking a sharp turn on an icy rode…. She died that night… She might have survived if she had worn her seatbelt…. I really miss her… So the fact that these people have the audacity to think that they’ll be safe and won’t harm anyone, really makes me question what logical hoops they’re having to jump through.

low sodium is 1500mg , 2000 is what everyone should be limited to lol so you were just on a normal sodium diet. honestly its not that bad once you go a week not adding salt to your food bcz it naturally has salt and oh my body loved it no more swelling in my knees and my arthritis wasn't as bad i lost weight i could breathe easier it was awesome but i couldn't have my cheese and i failed bcz dammit i love cheese and you cant get low sodium cheese by mail and they dont sell it where i live lol so im eating too much salt and must go back on it soon!

I should know, given both of my parents are diabetic. Mom's obese, but my dad has to stay away from salt more than sugar due to blood pressure concerns, among other things. He's actually in more danger than she is based on diet alone.

The better thing would have been to put clean panties in there (as well as a couple products), file complaints about them grabbing your panties with their bare hands, then when the river flows dirty a different pair and remove 1 product "oh i keep a spare just incase and forgot to take those out yesterday" then file another complaint about fondling pantues barehanded. I once got basically fired for getting dehydrated on a Construction job, they said I need to get blood work done to see why I got dehydrated, my dad on the other hand was extremely adamant with his opinion that I was eating too much salt and thats why I got dehydrated. He threw away all my salt-filled food and made sure I stopped eating salt for a week until I got my blood drawn. The blood test results showed that I was dangerously low on sodium in my blood when I got dehydrated, let alone the what the week without salt did to me...

You can't absorb water without salt or electrolytes cos osmotic pressure. And the body can't make piss without putting salt in it too There's a reason rehydration drinks are salty, and why if you're hospitalised hhey give you a saline IV Him taking away all your salt could actually kill you btw, when marathon runners drop dead of heart attacks it's not dehydration, it's lack of sodium stops their heart beating!

My dad, even after flipping over his truck trying to avoid a deer and a couple of fines for not wearing his seatbelt, STILL refuses to wear one if he can get away with it. I make sure he wears it when he rides with me, but also he doesn't want to hear the beeping sound when the sensor in the seat goes off because he's not wearing it.

Sometimes these stories don't have an ending. I mean, yeah, if they left a job before hearing what happened to some manager, then no ending there makes sense. But the hotel person who left the Karen on the roof? What happened next? I'm sure Karen didn't stay up there... what happened when she came down and, I would assume, confronted the hotel personnel?

It’s not just salt, it’s other minerals that are vital for your body to function. Sodium, magnesium, potassium, and calcium are all electrolytes and are how pretty much all of your muscles function, including the cells that make your heart beat. Also note that when people are dehydrated they’ve likely lost a ton of electrolytes, cut the sports drinks with water. You don’t need all the electrolytes that are packed into drinking it straight. You can do half water and that’s plenty of electrolytes.

yeah, like, if you're sitting in a car with other people, your body can and will become a wrecking ball if there's a crash, and you can seriously hurt or even kill someone with your body in a high-speed collision. I remember reading a story about a mother who was driving with her infant, and there was a crash, mother wasn't wearing her seatbelt, and the baby sadly died when the mom went flying into the baby.

Not even just the risk of injury but if someone in the car isn’t whereing a seatbelt and the car gets pulled over then driver has to pay around 500$ for the ticket and the driver could lose there license which while we’re on the topic why is the driver punished when some idiot grown ass adult refuses to where a seatbelt why isn’t that one punished

A student in my high school died in a car crash while not wearing his seatbelt. The school held a seatbelt safety awareness program in his honor.

@@saxor96 I would imagine the seat belt is more to keep you strapped down during turbulence, so you don't fly up and break your neck on the ceiling, like at least one flight attendant has had happen. Or when a jumbo jet crash landed at SFO a few years back (came in too low, clipped the seawall), and two teenage girls not strapped down flew out the hole where the tail had been.

The dirty panties story reminds me of an experience I had about 25 years ago, with an assistant manager. Let me just say, she never searched me again after getting acquainted with my dirty jockstrap.

I am not a paramedic nor any kind of Healthcare professional but I am extensively trained in first aid. I was first on a scene of a car crash. I was rendering first aid to a man still buckled into the front passenger seat and had died while I was assisting him. Come to find out from the paramedics that arrived shortly after me that the man died because the woman in the backseat was not buckled and she "torpedoed" forward and caused the injuries that killed the man. When I was attempting first aid on the man she was still in the backseat crying and stating she was injured.

The seatbelt one hit me hard. When I was a child. I was nearly thrown through a windshield with my friend because we didn't have ours on. My friend got a serious concussion and had to spend months in the hospital before recovering enough to go home. From that day forth anyone who rides with me either puts on their seatbelt or walks. No exceptions. I've had so many people get grumpy at me about it and I will literally just sit there until they do. I have had stubborn friends and family members take nearly an hour of sitting before finally relenting and buckling in.

I hear you. When I was 4 I was sitting in my mom’s lap in the front seat (yeah, I know. It was the 80s). We were in a low speed accident on an icy road. I hit the windshield, but wasn’t seriously hurt. It freaked my mom out so much no one ever rode without a seatbelt in my family ever again.

I'm like that too. And I'm the same about car seats for little kids and babies. I've literally told every single one of my family members "No carseat, no ride. Period." I hate hearing stories about little kids and babies getting seriously injured or killed because of parents who think "It's okay, I'm a safe driver" or "It's okay, I trust your driving" and then just drive around without a carseat. I'm like that with seatbelts too. "No belt, no ride. Period." I absolutely REFUSE to even put the car into gear without everyone being buckled in safely, and if they take the belt off halfway through the ride? I absolutely WILL pull over and stop until the belt is back on and they're buckled in safely.

The question is not: could you survive on a sodium-free diet, but: is a sodium-free diet even possible? _Everything_ contains sodium, drinking water (bottled or tap), every type of food you can imagine (plant or animal). Basically all of nature relies on sodium for certain processes, e.g. it's needed to maintain the osmotic pressure(s) of cells - and every organism has those.

Same with sugar. It's not a bad idea to wanting cut both salt and sugar down but living a life without it is impossible and even if you found a way, you are not going to live a healthy life.

Most food has some natural sodium in it Sodium is vital for life, why we can taste it and it makes everything taste better. Some animals even seek out salt licks as a sodium supplement too You can do no ADDED sodium sure, but a wholey sodium free diet weuld need to be completely artificial, would taste like crap (actually crap would taste better and has sodium), and it would kill you cos you need sodium for your heart to beat! When marathon runners drop dead of heart attacks right after the race, it's low sodium

On the picture, you could see her face was bruised and cut, she had a black eye, and her arm was in a cast. In a letter she wrote, “ all of these injuries were minimized by her seatbelt. If it hadn’t been for that, I’d be dead.” People, buckle up! If not for you, for someone else.

They said it was to show us the importance of wearing your seat belt and how just one person who didn't buckle up could kill everyone. I drive around my little brother and cousins a lot and when I know they're lying about being buckled up, i hit the break really hard out of nowhere and when I hear them get jostled i say "where's your seatbelt?" And then they put it on without protest. Note: i only do this while we're still on very quiet residential streets so no one is around us and I'm going under 20. This is usually right before we get to the actual busy roads.

As someone who has to take salt tablets Sally is insane salt is a necessity

"The No Salt Story" - My sister is vegan [[no animal products]], or rather, she was... She attempted it, and everything SEEMED to be going well, but within a few weeks she was low energy and by the end of the month she was barely able to get around. A nurse saw her condition and gave her a fish, I don't know the breed, but after eating it she felt better immediately. However, two days later she was low energy again. I love my sister, and there see nothing wrong with a vegan diet, but she has a condition where she absolutely NEEDS the extra cholesterol. Her levels will drop dangerously low without it. Now she tries to stay vegan, steering away from red meat but eats fish and chicken.

As a chef, the salt-free story warms my heart

Fun fact, for a while my dad had to go iodine free due to thyroid cancer treatment. but since iodine is added to salt a lot, he pretty much had to go salt free except for salt labeled SPECIFICALLY iodine free.

We need _sodium_. There are sodium in other things than just salt. You have to remember that salt used to be super expensive and almost impossible to afford for anyone not rich. Since people still survived, they had other sources of sodium. Egg, for example.

About 4 years ago I was in the car with my mom and little sister when the ball joint snapped and we flipped going 70mph. None of us would have survived the accident if we weren’t wearing seatbelts. Please don’t fight over this, your comfort is not worth the risk of losing your life.

I have to cook for my grandma and can't cook with salt,I cook everything from scratch to make sure. Her doctor has her on potassium and sodium to control the amount she gets. Congestive heart failure and other health issues are the reason... I highly doubt Sally has any of those issues 😂

The seatbelt story of the parents, i would have asked them to buckle up, if they wouldn't, i'd ask why, if they'd tell me that backseat seatbelts are pointless, i'd say ok, start driving, get to around 10kmph or so and slammed the brakes so they'd fly directly into the front seats. Then i'd tell them to put their seatbelts on again.

"Relax. It is fine. Who the hell needs Seat Belts". I'm sorry, did you say you wanted to walk home? *O.O* *Puts seat belt on* *nod* Wise choice mate. You can act like an idjit all you want in your own car. But in MY Car, either you play by MY rules, or you can hike it.

Legend has it that you can still hear a Karen-esque screech from the roof saying "Now!"

I think it’s a zero *added* salt, not no salt.

Weirdly enough, in Ohio, only the front seat passengers are required to wear seat belts. That said, I always wear my seatbelt and I make everyone in my car wear one.

In my state everyone in the vehicle has to be wearing a seatbelt. If someone isn’t wearing one, the driver can get a ticket for it even if the person not wearing it is in the back seat and is an adult. So I just tell anyone in my car that they’re not worth getting pulled over and getting a ticket for. That they’re not worth the increase in my car insurance premiums. It also helps that my kid and his cousins are adamant about people wearing seatbelts. So if grandma and grandpa are sitting in the back of the van with them, the kids will tattle on them real quick and tell them to put on their seatbelts. And how can grandma say no to a 7-year-old that’s saying “we don’t want you to die, grandma! You need to wear your seatbelt. Here, let me help you with it so you can be safe.”

11:50 That CAN'T be the end of the story! Whether she stayed on the roof or left in either embarrassment or rage, that just can't be the end of the story.

If someone refused to wear a seatbelt in the back, I would just drive. Then when on a long road with no cars behind me (Lots of moments like that for me), I would just stop the car as hard as I could. They'd complain, I would say "There was a squirrel crossing the road", then explain that "If you didn't like how that felt, imagine what it would be like in a f**king crash. THAT'S why you need a seat belt!" Maybe that would get it through their thick skulls.

Re: sodium and muscles It's also needed for the brain. Generally anything the body does with electrical impulses (muscle contractions, neurons firing) involves sodium/potassium pumps. Basically, the body uses an anitporter to push the sodium and potassium to different sides of the cell membrane, and at different ratios. Since it doesn't pump at a 1:1 ratio but 3:2, there's an electrical potential generated. The cell can then open the floodgates to reset this electrical potential. Boom. The muscle contracts or the neuron fires. DISCLAIMER: This is from memory a decade ago with a couple brief spot checks on Wikipedia.

Anyone who has taken driver's ed in the last 20 years should well be aware that ALL passengers should wear seatbelts, it not only about preventing people from flying out of windshields.

My mom, due to blood pressure issues, has to have the least amount of salt as possible. She can have some, but too much, and her blood pressure gets BAD and she gets really sick. :(

My car, my rules! Everyone must wear a seatbelt when they are a passenger in my car. It's non negotiable with me. If they refuse, they can get an Uber, get a taxi, or take the bus, or walk!

I know someone who did not wear a seat belt in the back of the car. The car crashed, he was flung straight out of the side window, and hit his head against a tree. He barely survived and he is now in a wheelchair. And they weren't even driving on a highway or something, that would have made it way worse.

If someone refuses to wear their seatbelt, just floor the car and brake hard. That way, they’ll get a slight taste of a car accident and you get a nice taste of “I told you so”

Asking the real questions

The Salty Sally story had me roaring! Certain medications require you to USE more salt. Epileptic meds especially. In people with no issues, a no salt diet is deadly. Your heart truly needs it. One word for mental Sally: ELECTROLYTES! I love that host.

Also near impossible to have a zero salt diet. Almost everything we eat has enough salt without adding any extra.

F those kinds of people who say 'I dOn'T dO sEaTbElTs'...let's see how you feel about that when you go head first through the windshield after a crash, or take someone else out on your way there!

The salt free diet is like my dad.his doctor said no salt. But he is allowed to have a maximum amounts of sodium a day. But no extra salt on anything. He gets his sodium from normal foods.

For the first story: what kind of car has a seatbelt warning for the back seats? I’ve never seen or heard of that. All the cars I’m familiar only have warnings for the front seatbelts. Have I been living under a rock?? (Edit: I still think the Karen was, in fact, a Karen…the seatbelt warning for the back seats just stood out to me bc I was literally talking just yesterday about how I thought it odd that cars DON’T give warnings for back seat seatbelts when that’s where kids sit)

The salt story... made me CACKLE omg. My mother has a bunch of dietary restrictions that essentially mean she eats almost nothing but veggies and the occasional bit of seafood, all of which she prepares herself. She doesn't really like salty foods or include salt in the dishes she makes, so most of her sodium intake comes from the rare occasions on which she eats at restaurants. You won't ever get a doctor telling you to eat zero sodium, because my mother sometimes gets close by accident, and her doctors are always warning her to eat more salt. Every few months I'll find her in the kitchen morosely shaking some salt over her broccoli-leek stew or something.

There’s a reason why salt tastes good. It’s absolutely necessary and before humans started producing it industrially it was kind of hard to get. It’s only now that we produce so much of it that we can slather mountains of it on everything that it’s a problem.

Salt story: a little salt is actually good for you. Going overboard is where the issues occur.

Zero Salt Sally reminds me of my brother's wife. I once made her a cup of tea and she went "did you put sugar in this?" I said "yeah, was I not meant to?" she then looked at the other people in the room and just went "he sugared my tea! he sugared my tea..." then my brother had to explain to me that she's cutting sugar out of her diet so she doesn't have sugar in her tea... I had just watched her eat basically an entire box of sugary chocolate by herself, had a high-sugar energy drink, had three donuts covered in sugar, and had a bag of more sugary candy as well...

Hope that lady has a sleeping bag in her luggage. If it's not freezing sleeping on the roof might not be horrible. 🤣
