r/Maliciouscompliance How A Stupid Karen Got Herself Fired!

r/Maliciouscompliance In today's episode, a high-ranking executive at a large company decides that she doesn't need mandatory training because she's just too important and has too many things to do! OP is happy to accommodate her, even though it was Karen's boss who specifically required Karen to take the training. I'm sure this won't come back to bite you in the butt, Karen!

He asked the GM who was giving the tour “what do we pay them?” His guide replied “oh, about 150k a year” shocked, the visitor asked, “and why aren’t they working!?” Again, the guide spoke up, “because if they’re working we lose a million dollars or more an hour. FYI - AED Automated External Defibrillator - back in the 80's I was in the first class of EMT in the world to be trained in Defibrillation for a study on early defibrillation. It was so successful saved so many lives. That study led to the development of the AEDs which now provides defibrillation before first responders even arrives.

Break Time Story: I had a boss do that to me once, too. At the time, I was working as a CNC machine operator at a large medical device manufacturer. I was working OT one Saturday, and one of my buddies in town sent me a text to see if I'd like some Chinese for lunch. I said I would, and asked him to text me when he was pulling into the industrial complex where I was working. My "scheduled" lunch time was 11:20 - 11:40 (only twenty minutes because it was paid). My buddy hadn't let me know he was there, so I just kept working while everyone else took lunch. Around 12:15, I got the text that my pork with garlic sauce was approaching its destination, so I finished up the machine cycle I had running and headed out. I took the 20 minutes I was allowed, and was making my way back to my machine just before 12:40. My supervisor came storming out of his office demanding to know where I had been, so I explained. He flipped his shit, told me that I was only allowed to take breaks during the scheduled times, and if I didn't take them at those times, then I didn't get to take them. I tried to reason with him, but he insisted, and told me I was lucky he wasn't writing me up on the spot. I even told him that following his instructions would result in losing production each day, and he said he didn't care; I had to follow the rules to the letter. Ok, dick. You asked for it. At this job, the parts I was running had a machine cycle time between 9 - 12 minutes. We had two 10 minute breaks and a 20 minute lunch, all paid. Prior to the douche's instructions, I would hold off going on break until my machine finished its cycle so I could start it and have it run through my breaks, meaning I would have only 1-2 minutes of downtime during each 10 minute break, and 12-13 minutes during lunch. I also ran two machines simultaneously. My expected output each shift was 48 pieces, or 24 off each machine. Prior to the douche's instructions, I routinely finished by daily output with about 45 minutes left in my day. After his instructions, my output dropped to approximately 40 pieces per shift. I would intentionally set the machines to end a cycle between 20 seconds before to a minute after the start of each scheduled break. When it was time to go to break, I'd stop what I was doing and go to break. There were multiple times I stopped part way through removing a finished piece from the machines and just left them to sit idle for 10 or 20 minutes while I was at break. When I was asked why my output had dropped, I calmly explained exactly why; I have to go to break ONLY during the scheduled times, no matter what was going on with my machines. I could see him grinding his teeth in frustration, but, to his credit, he never jumped my ass about it, and I continued to do just that until he left the company. Oh...and all of the other five machine operators who worked for this asshole did the same thing. So, if you're keeping track, his expected output every 8-hour shift was 288 parts (which we almost always provided). After our compliance, it dropped to 240.

I work in a call center, and they don't give a crap about if you take your break a bit late. We put our phones into Auxilary(Aux) for our breaks, and we can do this while on calls. As long as you don't put your phone into Aux more than 1 minute before your scheduled break, you're good. This is to ensure that you don't get another call to prevent you from going on break, but you need to finish the call you're on first. If you go half an hour late cause it was a long call, then you go half an hour late. The only time this has ever really bitten anyone was one person who worked a different department from me, who was on a 7 hour long call. She ended up taking her first break, took one call, took her lunch, took one call, and took her last break. Not sure how she survived that long without going to the bathroom though.

that mentality some managers have that you have to look busy all the time just kills me inside. I was a very efficient employee, everyday I did my job in 4h (answer about 200 e-mails from costume suporte, take pictures of 15 products and treat them and upload to server, help with platform development and some in person costumer help) (I was working in a huge computer store). But my boss thought I was doing nothing, so I started to do the same things but in double time. yet I was really efficient. He fired me. And had to hire 5 people to do my job. The best part? I was hired by the major competitor and I stole about 40% of the sales.

He was also the one who told one of us not to take their vintage car into work because it was giving people the wrong impression.

I had something similar to the break one happen, except I worked with Special ED kids on math. I don't do well sitting around doing nothing, so I'd usually skip my break to check on one of my assigned students earlier in the day. The principal found out, and said that I had to take my break, so I did. The student had a melt down, and freaked out to the point they had to call his parents to pick him up early. This happened every day for an entire week before they rearranged my schedule to let me have those 15 minutes to go do an extra check on this kid.

I worked for the 2 t's phone co. They loved to switch district managers around putting them in charge of departments that they had no idea of what the people working there did. Every one of them was determined to remake the company the way they thought it should be run. I was working in the downtown of a major city and the new manager was giving us a speech about how he was going to change things for the better. One of the first things he was going to do was change the start time from 7AM to 8AM . we tried to tell him it would not work . He told us we were not team players if we challenged his ideas. So we gave up trying to talk him out of it. All utilities are underground in large city's so by 8 AM cars are parked on top of the manholes and there is no way to set up a work area. We got to sit around for a week before going back to our old starting time. This is only one example of the many things that managers did that caused us to sit around and do nothing for days.

When the plumber turns on the water and floods a dozen finished units, you really don't want to hear "it's 12:05, we'll be there in a half hour, if the elevators are quick"

Basic Life Support was a requirement for my job. I've been qualified, about every 3 years, since the time I was 10 years old. My mom was a registered nurse, and qualified to give instruction, hence why I was qualified at the age of 10. My current qualification expires next year, though I am retired now. Should I get a job where certification is required, I would be happy to take it again. There has been more than once when I was glad I had it. I didn't have to use it, but I was able to reassure the 911 operator that I could perform that if required. You should have heard the relief in her voice that she wasn't dealing with some panicky person with no idea what to do. There was another time I was in the bar. The bartender was having an asthma attack. She had her inhaler, but I told her "Don't worry, I can keep you going long enough for an ambulance to get here if that is required." She said to me "You just want to kiss me!" My reply was "True, but I would rather you be breathing normally when I do that rather than saving your life!" These days, given my health problems, I expect to be on the receiving end, rather than the one saving someone else. When I had my heart attack though, my biggest complaint was I couldn't see the screen for the fluoroscope. The cardiologist said he would show me after, though I wish I could have seen it as it was happening. Same complaint for my 2nd heart cath. The cardiologist did tell me I was the only person he had ever done a heart cath on with no sedative. Local only where they went in to my wrist, but nothing else. It did mean I was able to leave as soon as the bleeding was under control, rather than having someone else to take responsibility for me, so saved us both time. Hope you enjoy this post. Take care all.

A manager who asks, "What orders do you need me to give you?" is a manager who understands this maxim. *Treasure these unicorns*.

My brother had a manager that was certifiably insane. She was actually a hard worker which...was _not_ a good thing because she was neurotically micromanaging and completely incompetent. She ignored company policy and made her own rules, _her way_ typically took longer and didn't work as well but she would scream at the top of her lungs at anyone who argued, tried to do it the _right_ way or reminded her of company policy. The last straw with my brother was after many other such things happened, he was cooking in the kitchen and she came back with an order saying he made the wrong thing. He pointed to the screen that tells him what to make and that order was still there. He said that what was on the plate is what was on the screen so if a mistake was made it was the server's mistake not his. She wrote him up, and screamed at him for 10 minutes when he refused to sign it. He quit as soon as he found another job. One other example is the place he worked at has a standard kitchen setup so if a person is transferred they don't have to relearn everything. Well she would rearange the spice rack *every day* saying that each new arrangement was how it always was and demanding to know who changed it again. No one changed it, she just couldn't remember what she did the previous day. Now, a lot of you are probably wondering why she wasn't fired immediately. Well, the rummer was that she was sleeping with the district manager. He had hired her personally and all complaints about her went to him. Further adding validity to this theory is the fact that the district manager and her were fired simultaneously about a month after my brother left. She was fired for 'overstepping her authority' which literally could have been anything since she did that constantly and they didn't give a reason for the DM's firing but...I think we all know why.

As an Australian, I can confirm that our internet is trash. My family delayed transitioning to the NBN network because we found out that due to our long driveway, we'd essentially be paying more money for the same internet. The NBN network was very picky as well, with one of grandparents missing out by one street because the NBN believed they wouldn't make a profit by extending the network to their street. So my grandparents had to apply to get internet from the NBN satellite, which was better than nothing but they are limited and have to share it with everyone on the street. One of friends said that when installing the NBN network, they like to choose and pick the worst locations to install it, so they told them to do things where they wanted it, and they were a little whiny, but it got done. Same thing happened to us when we got ours installed.

Except it was understood that on pay day, I could take 2 hours. New boss complained about my time keeping (he knew about the previous arrangement because he wasnt new, he was just promoted). It came up in my review and went against me. Soooo. I turned up on the dot in the morning, took one whole hour for lunch each day (they had to answer the phones themselves) and left on the dot of 5 - even if there were things I could have helped with. Be careful what you ask for. Idiot.
