R.I.P. - Ted White (Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th Final Chapter) Niagara Falls Comic Con 2019

Ойын-сауық

Ted White -- best known for playing 'Jason Voorhees' in "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" -- discusses his career, reveals fascinating behind the scenes stories and answers fan questions at his 2019 Niagara Falls Comic Con Q&A panel.
Alex Bayouth (January 25, 1926 - October 14, 2022), known professionally as Ted White, was an American actor and stuntman who has notably doubled for Fess Parker, Clark Gable, Richard Boone and John Wayne. For "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949), he was approached due to his Marine Corps background to be a consultant on the layout of the island and subsequently met John Wayne who he began doubling for him in 1952.
In 1984, White played hockey masked murderer 'Jason Voorhees' in "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" when the director required a large man for the part. White reluctantly accepted because he needed the money, but was uneasy about playing one of the most infamous murderers in screen history, so asked not to be credited on screen for his part. He was later credited for the archive footage of him as 'Jason' that was used in the opening montage for "Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood" (1988). White was offered the role of 'Jason' for "Friday the 13th: A New Beginning" (1985) and "Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives" (1986), but turned them down. The roles ultimately went to stuntmen Tom Morga and C. J. Graham, respectively. Despite his initial distaste for the role, he is considered by many fans to have been one of the best Jasons.
White has had roles in multiple western films and in such television series as Daniel Boone, The Andy Griffith Show, Hunter, Magnum, P.I. and The Rockford Files, usually in tough-guy roles such as police officers or hired thugs. He has also worked in the films "Escape from New York" (1981), "Tron" (1982), "Starman" (1984), "Romancing the Stone" (1984), "Silverado" (1985), "Major League" (1989) and "Gone in 60 Seconds" (2000).

    Met him at monstermania in NJ March 2017, Great guy. I was so excited to be able to meet him because he's my favorite Jason and he had recently come out of retirement from doing conventions. I asked him what made him change his mind, he told me he just got bored playing golf all the time. :D

    Damn, I was just thinking about the final chapter and his portrayal in the last days... I wished him a healthy long life in my thoughts. I mean 96 is a very respectable age, but I'm still sad about it. My favorite Jason portrayal alongside Richard Brooker's. He was 58 years old when he played/did the stunts in the final chapter. Very impressive imo. May he rest in peace.

    @@LoganWood121 I think the guy asking him the question started talking to his neighbor, while Ted was still answering his question. Hard to tell, though, it’s off camera. If that’s what happened, I agree with Ted. I hate it when people do that to me. Ask me something, I’m responding to you, and you start diverting your attention somewhere else. That’s just rude.

    28:10 I love Ted, but a shame that his memory is fading. He's spoken about the stunts in FRIDAY THE 13TH PART IV in the past, such as the girls being thrown out of second story windows, not merely getting thrown through windows. Also, in the past, Ted did say he had watched Parts 2 and 3. Here, he says he never did.

  • @Dizzy1980

    @Dizzy1980

    @Ray Thomas No, he's said on many occasions (including DVD interviews) that he watched Part 2 or 3 right before he did THE FINAL CHAPTER just to watch how Jason moved. So that means he saw them 36 years before this interview where he said he had never seen them.

    @Ray Thomas I never, ever said "senile". I said his memory was fading (which it is), which is something to be expected when someone is nearing age 95 (as Ted is). Read what I actually wrote more carefully (in other words, process and analyze) and kindly cease misquoting me.

    I get what your saying Dizzy. The only thing I can say is that due to his age he just can't remember things he used to. You meant no harm by it. But still, at 95, the fact that he has more memorable and legendary stories than you and me, tells you the kind of life he lived. A living legend.

    Part 4 is my favourite, always will be. Ted, in my opinion, is the best Jason. Kane Hodder was sublime, and amazing in the role. But in many respects he was resurrected from the dead and zombified in retrospect. Ted's version was still human somewhat, superhuman but menacing nonetheless. More scary in my opinion. And despite him knowing absolutely nothing about the role, White became a legend within the series. That's down to his professionalism.
