@@thestrangemanreturnsI don’t doubt it. Some people are just talented that way. There used to be a kid in my school who could play about 20 instruments, but flute was his specialty. He grew up to be a world famous Latin musician. His name was Dave Valentin. I’ve also heard that Paul McCartney can play about 40 instruments. Don’t know for sure but it wouldn’t really surprise me. Stevie Wonder is another one. Ever see him play drums? Total badass.

@@thestrangemanreturns Also the people saying someone "mastered" the instruments is just repeated by someone who isn't a musician. You never stop learning your instrument as a musician. And I have played drums, bass, guitar, harmonica, banjo, ukulele, piano, keyboards, dobro, (and then you can pad your resume by saying acoustic guitar, classical guitar, resonator guitar, slide guitar, double-necked electric guitar, etc.) on recordings. That's 14 instruments right there. I would be embarrassed to hear someone call me a multi-instrumentalist that has mastered 14+ instruments. And to the person mentioning Stevie Wonder on drums, he's not that good. Listen to the inconsistent beat on "I Believe (when I Fall in Love it Will Be Forever). One of my favorite musicians and one of my favorite songs in the world, but the drums are NOT good. It sort of adds to the charm of the song, but I wouldn't hire him to play drums. Edit: oh, I also have a digeridoo, a bongo, maracas, and a penny whistle too. I even played the side of a clothes dryer with a soft drum mallet for the sound of a bass drum once, and put a bunch of loose change in a paper bag as a high hat/tambourine effect. 20 instruments and climbing!! (Oh, and the "self-taught" brag is also weird. I am self-taught on everything but the guitar. and I suck at all of them.)

The actual intro in its entirety: "Dearly beloved. We are gathered here today to get through this thing we call Life. Electric words and life means forever and that's a mighty long time. But I'm here to tell you, there's something else. The Afterworld. A world of Neverending happiness. You can always see the Sun. Day or night. So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills, you know the one, Dr. Every-thing-will-be-alright. Instead of asking how much of your time is left, ask him how much of your mind baby. Because in this life, things are much harder than the Afterworld. This life, you're on your own. So when the elevator tries to bring you down, GO CRAZY!

@@vbvermont The video was made to the 3:48 "7-Inch Single Edit" - pop radio isn't going to play a 7 minute song, so most longer songs are edited down to 3-4 minutes max. MTV videos were generally the same, with a handful of exceptions like the Thriller video, and even then, after it's first run, an edited, shorter version is usually what's played. Even the album version of Let's Go Crazy (4:38) isn't the full-length version from the movie, but the full-length (7:35) "Special Dance Mix" version was originally released on 12" in '84 (which I own) and a few years ago on the Purple Rain "Deluxe Expanded Edition" CD set.

He was ahead of the curve in MANY ways. Not only is there an entire "sound" named after him: Minneapolis Funk; but he was the first to have downloadable music on the internet, he pushed so many boundaries and had no fear about it, even standing up for recording artists' rights in their bad deals with the music label execs. This is why some people think he was murdered and that the "fake prescription drugs" he had in his possession were purposely there...and also, since this is "Let's Go Crazy" - he did die in an elevator....think about THAT. "Are we gonna let the elevator break us down?"

Prince was a BEAST on guitar - I've seen a few interviews with heavy rock artists who've gone to see Prince live on a whim, thinking they had him all worked out as an eccentric pop artist, and been floored by his music chops. Listening to his full discography you realise what a scary gifted man he was. Prince was a multitalented supernova of an artist and very smart business man. On every level he was a rebel, and was not afraid to be himself. We will not see his like again.

You couldn't listen to the radio for 15 minutes without hearing a Springsteen or Prince song. Prince was one of the most prolific songwriters of our time and an amazing talent. If you like the guitar solo in this one, check his live collaboration with Tom Petty and others performing the Beatles' 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.' Jimi Hendrix was a major influence on Prince and helped develop his virtuosity on guitar. His Super Bowl halftime performance is regarded by many as the absolute best. He had so much left to create.
