Imagine if Aaron Taylor-Johnson did this dance in his Quicksilver costume. That would have been awesome...

I just know that besides knowing nothing, REM remains my all-time favorite band & soundtrack to my life, (starting age 27) and when I watch this video, it makes me cry. The energy in the music-IDK what it is, but it makes me feel a deepened sadness- and at the same time watching the dancing man… I love so much the people who just decide to be~no pretense. It’s just their being. Kind of hard to describe but for me it inspires and reminds me to not fake my life. Just be this person I am. It took 59 years to get here.

I think us longtime R.E.M. fans can appreciate how they chose to call it day with two albums that actually felt like them returning to a creative peak. I like certain songs from Accelerate and Collapse Into Now just as much as some material from albums like AFTP or New Adventures.

It sounds sad over-all to me too but I'm not sure why. Not the dancing. Maybe the voice is less enthusiastic then the words spoken and this makes it sound like someone trying to grasp an eluding, happier feeling.

REM uses a lot of minor keys. Keeps the music sounding overall gloomy. Nobody does it better than them. Absolutely amazing

Lot's of memories, I love these older REM cuts. I wasn't too crazy about their 90's stuff.

Proof that REM were brilliant until the end.

He is human graffiti > starts with him exiting building and shockingly looking at the graffiti on the door > 0:28 he jumps into the wall and then he begins his living graffiti > 1:10 he stops dancing because he's no longer on the wall like the other articles of spray paint art, begins again at 1:14 when he becomes a part of the buildings again > 1:47 graffiti intentionally behind him in this shot. Johnson slows down as he parts from the paintings > 2:24 this is one of my favorites. His performing art and the art on the walls are closely linked so he actually interacts with the huge squirrel. Again at 2:28 > 3:24 he stops and is part of the mural behind him. and again at 3:49 I may have missed a couple of clues along the line but you get the gist.

This track proves that R.E.M. still had it even as they were winding down. This video is beautifully motivational.

he thinks he is free, but he is cluelessly and helplessly trapped inside a system he cannot fathom, so he's guided by instinct and social norms, a splash of color on the surface, hanging on for dear life.

"I will make it thought the day and then the day becomes the night, I will make it through the night." How can you not understand the message behind those lyrics? It's about holding on during difficult times and keeping it together when everything falls apart.

This makes me so happy every single time.
