As awesome as those Japanese manhole covers are, I can confidently say we can't have those fancy manhole covers here in the USA, people would steal them. LITERALLY a "This is why we can't have nice things" moment. We can't even have iconic road signs, people kept stealing them, like Route 66 which they had to rename to stop the theft of the sign, or anything with 420 on it, like mile markers, so either they make it mile marker 419-2 or something, or just don't have that one and just put an unmarked one there or some other indicator. I think I have even seen a 419.9 marker before.
@ETXAlienRobot201

hadn't considered that part. but firstly, most countries don't do this [or not very much], it's practically exclusive to japan. secondly, it's much more feasible than the other examples to anti-theft a manhole cover. everything from making them even more difficult to physically remove [they already weigh a *lot* because they *have* to] to attaching/embedding/concealing big brother style security/tracking devices. that said, shows a lot about the state of a society/country that the issue you described is so widespread. i "love" it here... and all things considered, theft/destruction of public property is hardly even the biggest issue. quite minor in comparison to .
@Sevness

@@ETXAlienRobot201 Weight means nothing, we have had people steal entire STATUES before in the USA, but a lot of it too is that the USA is a bucket of crabs. To quote what a military leader said "The reason the American Army does so well in wartime, is that war is chaos, and the American Army practices it on a daily basis." We are chaotic, destructive, we have a serious issue with authority figures, more so those that abuse their power or don't deserve it. The USA are founded on opposing oppression, but we are too used to that and end up often oppressing others in the process. So anyone that is too well off, too showy, too braggy about their things, let alone are spending money to "beautify" things, with statues, with decorative manhole covers, you can be SURE people would be pissed at the "wasted" money. More so when people start stealing things, because they like it, and feel they deserve it for any number of reasons. So yeah, I "love" it here in the USA too, but damn if we aren't chaotic pot-bellied goblins that want to bring anyone better than us down, while simultaneously stepping on those below us to get higher. XD

I think the brochure's art style is Deco Skyliner or Deco Oceanliner. The seminal Batman the Animated series had a distinctive Art Deco style. When it came time for the team to do Superman the Animated series, they chose to do it in the style known as Deco Oceanliner because of its softer edges that were more in line with how they wanted to portray Superman in the series. So that brochure made me think it was some kind of Deco style; it reminded me of Deco Oceanliner, but just a bit, which is why I said it the way I did.

The "regenerative candle" is extremely suspicious because in a normal candle, the wax is supposed to be the fuel. The wick is just there to facilitate moving the melted wax to the fire. There should be nowhere close to a full candle's worth of wax left over if the candle is functioning properly.

The regenerative candle is *certainly* not going to work as you expect. The wax is the *fuel* of the flame. Not to mention, the 4th picture has a wick that never was lit on fire, so that's just a picture of a candle they *put* in there for the picture. The third picture shows that the candle is nearly fully burned down and you can see it's only collected at most a 5th of a candle worth of wax. And that's assuming they didn't manipulate that picture as well. It's an interesting idea, catching and storing the spilled wax so that once you burned enough candles you can simply use the leftovers for a new frankencandle. But the marketing is making promises that physics cannot deliver.

7:00 My sister had one when she was on a candle kick, apparently, the candle wax contains the oil that's actually burning, so it takes several candles' worth of drippings to make one spare candle; so if it's scented you should stick with several in a row of one scent or it'll create a "surprise" scented one... which is a gamble. NOTE: apparently sometimes the drippings are too 'dry' and need to be recombined with oils to burn smoothly... nbd, but notable.

I can't unsee it now
I've been inside Glasgow City Chambers a few times, it always was a marvel, marble stairs, exquisite decor. It seems a bit too fancy and posh for the main building of Glasgow City Council, but at the same time it kinda makes sense considering it was built in the 1880s (started in 1882, Queen Victoria inaugurated it in 1888) It's just a shame that Glasgow City Council is still depriving deprived areas and isn't focusing on cleaning up the city enough, and instead the Glasgow branches of the SNP and Labour seem to spend more time dissing the other than doing worthwhile stuff (just need to specify, the Tories are still worse, just SNP and Labour especially could and should be doing more and better)
14:56 These are called Atlants, the name comes from Atlas whom, in the Graeco-Roman mythology was the Titan supporting the weight of the heavens on his shoulders.
1:27 I actually saw some of these mamhole covers near Ueno Park in Tokyo but they weren't colored.
It baffles me how people think that "only like 20 people today" could do intricate and beautiful like the works shown in many cases its way more easy because of tool and even with the tools that they had there are quite many Artists and Craftman that get to these levels. Also how many people build themselves a gothik Palace to flex so you just dont see their work as much in public.
“You need to fix that- HE-“ GOT ME
Always love seeing this sub, it just makes me happy and puts a little smile on my face.
It is ironic you said that about libearies in america because there is a library in kansas city with that exact same concept architecture. It is made to look like a shelf of books. Its an entire city block and it amazing looking.
Yeah, when I saw those stairs, I thought, “Geez, I’ve built better stairs in Minecraft” and the stairs that come to mind first are some giant stair-bridges I built across jungle trees when I got incredibly bored.
If you really want to be awestruck, I THINK it's also istfahan, but the blue mosque... That's just gorgeous.

It's weird, you nailed the pronunciation of "Bergamo" 😅 I guess a broken clock is right twice a day.
The half a second of king dice music at the end made me gently laugh for some reason
I can’t help but laugh at this subreddit because of the advertisements! Also, happy Wednesday EmKay🙏🩷
