Yo, second story: The OP is seiously a patient, collected and calm person, thinking about the situation as rationally as possible, while being aware her pregger hormones may be irking her, thus not acting recklessly, accusing him of cheating right away; and her husband is an absolute KING.

100% agreed. SIL is probably jealous of them having their lives together when she... how do I put this lightly... is a piece of TRASH. And don't even get me started on "Chloe." YUCK. Seriously, they need to just go complete NC with the SIL and cut her off! And they are going to be such a happy little family when the baby comes! That kid is going to be so loved, so treasured, and so happy! One of the best stories I've seen on Reddit so far.

That second story is GROSS. Imagine encouraging your friend to try and cheat with your brother, like pushing your friend to sleep with your brother. In front of his wife. In their own home. The whole thing is gross, it’s actually disgusting behaviour. I’m also laughing how the sister had a tantrum, it makes me think his half-sister wishes she could sleep with him, she’s weirdly controlling and trying to destroy his happy marriage… is she pushing her friend as an “alternative” as a de facto in her place? Either way, whole thing is gross, and I’d go low/no contact with his sister, she’s actually insane. All her comments about how their unborn baby is “ruining things” and “should’ve had an abortion” just shows her true colours.

well considering the sister is the product of an affair herself It wouldn't be surprising if she was brought up by her "parents" saying that cheating was ok or if she came to that mindset on her own it clearly shows that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

And from what i know he decided that if they don't see him as their son he won't see them as his parents, and as far as he knows they've only tried to reach out once when his first kid was born, and thats it. 1st Story: So... I have a sinking feeling the OP's relationship is going to hit some nasty bumps and may not survive the aftermath of this for two reasons. One is the fact that she never mentioned HOW the MIL kept getting the OP's contact information. I'm presuming the OP stopped giving information to the MIL when she was suspected and the only way... the husband even though he ADMITTED that he suspected. She might still be in the relief stage not to think about it, but when they tell the family, they going to have questions... Two is the fact that the husband openly admitted to highly suspecting it but was not willing to go LC in some form. I know there was abuse on his end from his mother, but this is really bad. They need to have some SERIOUS conversations about this. His guilt is not misplaced at all, this will eat legitimately at him for a long time. Once the OP's relief stage is over, there is a possibility that resentment will occur for all the terror she endured. Therapy will help, but the facts of this are pretty bad.

If I were going to try to give SIL the benefit of the doubt, which I'm not really inclined to do, I'd say maybe she's overly attached to her brother because their dad abandoned her and OP's husband kind of assumed a fatherly role for her, but it's still weird. She definitely needs to go to therapy to deal with her attachment issues if that's the case. This assumes that she thought the dad was her father though and was hurt by him leaving. If that isn't the case she's just a psycho.

The story with Chloé reminds me of my step MIL... His dad & her met & got married just after us. She was 10 years older than my husband (the age of his older brother) and she seemed to really take a liking to my husband... She was always really bubbly, touchy & flirty around him. At first I thought that was just her personality, but it quickly became clear that she wasn't like that with anyone else. She'd step between us & demand his undivided attention. He's a people pleaser, so he'd never say anything or show how uncomfortable she made him... Except when she hopped on a motorcycle behind him & wiggled her chest all over his back & reached in his FRONT POCKET to 'search for the keys'.... that was the day he got freaked out. We were to spend the next day with them for Thanksgiving & while in the shower he begged me to stay by his side & not let her do her usual tricks. I laughed like OP because I was also pregnant & thinking I was making stuff up in my head.... I was so relieved that I wasn't imagining stuff! After that she would call him nearly every weekend to come meet with her so they could talk about how his dad treated her... ugh. He would go & tell her that he warned her before they got married, but whatever. He finally flipped out on her & went VVLC with them that VALENTINE'S DAY when she called him up wanting him to meet her at the park to discuss his dad... He told her we were headed our to celebrate our first Valentine's Day as a married couple & he couldn't. She cried & begged & he pretty much told her off. They haven't spoke much since. Her & his dad split up years ago. Luckily she hasn't tried to mess with my husband again.....

I can't remember the parents' reason, something like how they didn't see their son as their son or something like that, but it was a pathetic reason. OP didn't need anything from them and they deserve whatever suffering is inflicted upon them by their terrible favorite daughter. Despite that, it was more or less a happy ending. Story One: Sounds like all is the better if the "stalker" and MIL were the same person! Not to make light of the MIL's death, but that type of behavior is synonymous with what serial killers do-stalk their victims for days, weeks, months before murdering them. It's so consistent too. Pretty sure that the MIL would've eventually hired a hitman or made an attempt on OP's life herself. That's how serious it was. Story Two: No means no! No means no! No means no! The dude's wife is pregnant and they're married, but the sister's friend kept trying to get him to chear with her. That's low... More so, the sister needs to butt out! They're half-siblings, not husband and wife! He's got his life and she's got hers! This type of possessive behavior is EXACTLY what causes siblings to become estrange. It's toxic! Story Three: Updated after ten years? I'm glad to hear there was an update and that OP's life is on the right track, but I have to question-why bother? Past drama is usually best left in the past. "Gravedigging" online seldom drudges up good results! X'D

I hope OP in the third story knows he can contest the will. If absolutely nothing was willed to him, I wouldn’t have brought it up at all, not brought their attention to it and just waited. After dealing with a few shitty family members, I’ve learned you need to include them in the will, even if it’s just £1, to show they weren’t forgotten and it makes it very difficult to contest. If OP’s still left with absolutely nothing, he should contest the will.

Like yes, the first stories husband could've maybe connected the dots more. But I can understand not getting into your head that your mother would go this far and at least he acknowledged it and is taking steps to improve himself and helping to get his wife to cope with the trauma. With the second story, I think because OP is so protective with his sister that she believed her brother would listen and do to anything she said to him and that's why the situation turned so ugly. If the husband wants the sister to stop doing this, he needs to stop being so defensive about her. But the husband is acknowledging that at least so there is still hope. As you said rslash, he really sounds like a keeper.

As the black sheep in my family that last story made my stomach churn. I have been no contact with my toxic parents and their flying monkeys (including all but two of my many siblings) for almost 15 years, and low contact for at least 5 years before that. I am certain that I have been disinherited from both parents' wills. My parents, however, bet on the wrong horse. I have gone on to grad school, earned my degrees, built my career, am a contributing member of my community, and have managed to build a circle of loving family and friends (we don't share DNA but we are still family). In the meantime, my parents got stuck with my sociopath but yet still golden-child older sibling who has been using them for their money with one failed get-rich-quick-scheme after another, and who is counting the days until they die so he can pillage what is left of the estate (my mother told me once golden-child is the executor of their wills - I am certain GC will take full, and dishonest, advantage of that). I will bet that even my other siblings who are still part of the will get nothing after GC is done with it. So ultimately, I am left out of receiving a share of an estate that will be crumbs by the time GC is done with it, both while my parents are living and after they have died. But, I am also in a place of happiness and love that I never had in my toxic family of origin. And, my toxic parents are stuck with GC and will be lucky if GC doesn't make them homeless before they die, and with a child they prize but who ultimately lacks the brain wiring to love them in any way. I am content to let that be my justice. Karma is a beautiful warrior goddess.

I'm so glad that each story ended more or less happily: the first two stories had a husband who was willing to stand by his wife against the toxic family member, and third story ended with OP living a beautiful life away from his toxic family. Story 1: this going to sound really morbid of me, but I can't help but feel happy and relieved that the MiL died. Hear me out: clearly the woman was insane, and dangerously so, she was a danger to OP, and clearly wasn't about to change for the better. Her dying is what is going to insure OP's safety. Story 2: I hope the husband cuts his sister out of his life. You can't come back from making a comment like THAT: "you should have dragged your wife to the abortion clinic." Combined with the fact that she's trying to get her own brother to cheat on his wife... yeah. That's not just toxic, that's insanity. Just like the MiL in the first story, the SiL sounds downright crazy and dangerous. I hope OP's husband sticks to his guns about protecting his wife and baby; THEY'RE what are supposed to come first now, not the sister. Story 3: when the story started out, the way how OP described the different financial situations of himself and his sister, I figured, "While the parents are indeed being harsh for not including him in the will, maybe they just figure he doesn't need any of their money?" But when it was revealed that the daughter has STOLEN from them and made SO MANY screw ups in life... yeah. It's one thing to want to help your kid out of a bad situation, but to effectively "punish" one kid for succeeding and being self-sufficient while "rewarding" the other kid for ruining their life... I'm just glad things worked out for OP in the end, and that he at least has a good relationship with his nephew. As for the sister, at least she's improved somewhat. I say let her have her wait for her parents' will. She still needs it way more than OP does.

Last Story: There was a lot of info left out. OP'S parents blamed him for never having money, for losing out on "the best days of their lives." He was an oops baby, and they blamed him for every problem and missing out on their daughter growing up. It was also somehow his fault she is a failer. When he left for college, 40 minutes away, they felt like he abandoned the family and discarded them for selfish things.

Story 3 actually has an update in between were the op says that he did confront his parents about the will and they basically told him he was an accident, his sister wasn't, and they didn't really love him or ever "connect" with him as a child. He then goes no contact with the family, hence him talking about talking to his nephew. He says he was hurt but in the long run the no contact was for the best.

story 3: this kind of stories is why in my country you canno't fully remove a child from your will, you have to give them a certain % at the very least unless you have it recorded that they owe money to you (and therefore to the estate). It sucks when your kids treated you like shit or you are estranged but you still have the freedom to give most of it to whomever you want just legally canno't give them nothing. We actually had a big public story with kids from a celebrity whose father lived and set his will in the US and left nothing to his 2 adult kids and chose to leave everything to his current wife and younger kids so the adult children sued their step mother and step siblings in our country to try and get the share they would have had if the will had been made in our country (and if the place of residence had been in our country)

In Canada your parents would have left their will open to dispute as you cannot intentionally disenfranchise a child in your will!

I don't know how wills work in the UK (they mentioned pounds, so I assume it's UK), but in my country, parents can't completely leave their children out of their will without stating in it the justification for doing so, and even then, only a few circumstances allow the disowning, such as committing a serious crime against the parents.

I REALLY wish on the update for the 3rd story we could hear more context around the OP being NC with parents and sister. I feel like there was a conversation sparked by the will that included a whole lot more.

The last story sounds like the sister will have a few months of living the life of her dreams before she runs out of money and eventually has to file bankruptcy

And if I’m not mistaken in the UK he could contest that will if he doesn’t inherit anything. Lots of countries do not allow you to disinherit children.

The Will story shows clear favouritism, it feels like OP is completely snubbed by her parents. OP is an attentive daughter who cares but is snubbed entirely. It sadly doesn’t surprise me OP is no contact with his family, the favouritism is very obvious. It’s heartbreaking knowing the child who actually loved and cared for his parents was snubbed in favour for a daughter who doesn’t care about them at all and is essentially waiting for them to die. The last comment is absolutely right, the parents will all of a sudden contact OP out of nowhere and tell him “you can earn your way into the will” You’re sadly better off without them OP, I hope you and your wife have a happy life together!

The husbands in this episode are absolute chads. When given a difficult situation involving a family member, they were there to stick up for their spouse. They'd take accountability at appropriate times and address their issues/ act to resolve them mostly on their own accord. This is an example of what a partner in any couple should be like. Mad repect.
