That's what I was thinking. I remember arguing with some of the fundamentalists in my extended family about people 'being allowed' to leave marriages where their partners were abusing them. Nope, the fundies argued 'it's God's will for them to be together, and for the abused spouse to endure, stop doing things that cause the abuse, and hope the other person changes'. Well, the last Uber driver I had was a Ukrainian and this was shortly after the Russian invasion. Dude wouldn't shut up but that's OK because he was absolutely hilarious and even knew the perfect solution to my transportation problem (rental car I reserved and PAID for months in advance was not available and no other rental agencies had anything). That dude got a very good review and a big tip.

The amount of people who will say our generation sucks and then point to WW2 as an example of a “great generation” is baffling to me. Like you are really going to say the generation that went through a war that killed 60 million people is better than our generation since we are always using our phones and we allow gay people to exist. This reminds me of the book “all quiet on the western front”, which is about young German soldiers who thought fighting in the war was romantic and they would come back with a wife, but they end up actually trying to reintegrate into society and finds it difficult to communicate with other people.

8:22 I will say, I once applied for a bartending job at an upscale burlesque club. We're talking the kind of place celebrities go. I got through two rounds of interviews and didn't make it to the third, but the tips at this place were regularly in the hundreds a night. One of the girls who worked there told me she made an average of $1000 a night, but that she only ever got 3-4 nights a week and that newer bartenders would get 1-2 nights till they established themselves. With the base salary in 2015, this was still December money. But, this place was the outlier. It was not like every bar in NYC was pulling a thousand dollars a night. Mind you any bartender could be making $400-800 easily in the city. A few bars in the wall street area would regularly mention that you could be earning $1200+ a night on weekdays. And a bartender at a club could easily be making well over a thousand on weekends. But you have to remember because those tips were often cash you had to declare them on your income to actually qualify for a nice apartment. The smart thing to do was to declare most of your nights, pay taxes quarterly and pocket one night a week of cash income, usually your most middle earning night each week or even just a portion of your cash tips each week. If you don't put that portion in the bank and spend the money on food, you can live very comfortably. My guess is that she probably made good money to even qualify for the apartment, but that doesn't mean she made great money. If she was smart she would have gotten a cheaper apartment and declared slightly less cash tips on her taxes. Is it tax fraud, yes. But also tipped employees are already underpaid. The fact that you can have so much disparity on how much you make as a tipped employee is disturbing.

This subreddit is a lot of fun, precisely because you know going in just how awful the OPs are. And yeah, some of these people are truly reprehensible.

People who saw the war have deep lifelong psychological trauma and severe depression that they have to cope with on their own. People who saw the war are messed up in all kinds of way. And I know it from my own experience because I was in Ukraine when the war started and had to spend one month in the basement with my 3 year old daughter before we were able to escape. This is horrible statement that this generation in the US needs a war. NOBODY needs it. What new generations need is responsible parents who raise kids to be responsible, ambitious, hardworking, kind and honest human beings. The war won't change people to the better. The war messes them up it a worse way possible. It breaks the heart. It desensitizes person and makes them less empathetic to others. Do not ever wish war on anybody, especially on your own children, OP's dad is freaking nuts.

Yeah, I think it may make men better and give everyone a better appreciation for things but to wish for a war is wrong. The saying goes “Hard times create good men, good men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times.” I find that to be accurate and unfortunately we are heading into the weak men and hard times transition in my opinion. He doesn't just want men to die at war and get PTSD to "change their view of life". He wants to remove large swaths of "young" men from the dating pool. It's basically admitting that he was a VERY younger woman but they keep turning him down for men their age.

Story 2 : why would you wish for a war that could possibly kill billions or trillions of people? That everyone would fear but you more worry about dating people. I don’t see why your priorities is on that

Domething akin to this has happened in the past. France lost a huge percentage of men in their prime in WWI, and then again in WWII. Similar with Germany, Russia and Japan. Suddenly far more women than men. It took decades to recover from this. I would think those younger guys going back home after the war had their choice of women to marry. War is always devastating, and can have some surprising effects on population.

@@lancerevell5979But that took place at a time when women almost had to marry. They don't today. The effect could be a whole generation of women choosing to just have IVF children and a pile of men going "wait, what just happened?"

As someone who lives in a country with constant battle and a war going on right now, I don't wish anyone having a war and having their friends and family dying every day. People need to be grateful that they don't have one.

Update on the Story 3: Thank you for the few encouraging comments. We are still together. We had a very long talk yesterday. He feels very betrayed and said this was a huge setback. He said one I’m financially irresponsible because I make too much money right now need to be financed . Two he thinks I been using him . That still hurts. I told him I haven’t and I love him and I’ve had opportunities to date men that make more money than him but I want HIM. He laid out some conditions. 1. Therapy? Which I thought was odd request but agreed to it. Both individual and together. 2. I speak to a financial planner and follow their budget. He said they do that for free. He said I needs to show him I want him for more than his money because he’s seriously doubting that and that he’s not sponsoring me anymore

I think I prefer this subreddit rather than r/aitb. Usually r/aitb has super sad stories of people who were wronged and just responded to the situation based on how a normal person would respond. This subreddit though, I can turn off my brain knowing that these stories are full of 'people' / fecal matter in human form.

Open marriage story: I can ASSURE you that, if the wife ever started to go out with other men, HE would be the one being jealous and wanting to close the marriage. "I want to open up the relationship" is code for "I'm already cheating on you and I want to do so without consequences... BUT DON'T YOU DARE DO THE SAME TO ME!"

Story 2: My WWII-era grandmother used to say, "I'm so sorry you'll never find a good man. All the good ones went off and died in the war!" She never specified which war, but she was convinced all the "good men" were long gone. She may have been right! LMAO

This reddit is a nice change of pace keep it up! I laughed at the “only man on earth” joke did not expect that to be hilarious

Story 3: I did the math. Between the $2500 a month from her (ex) bf and her bartending job, she's making almost 70k a year outside of tips (willing to bet she never reported the $2500/month income she was getting on her taxes as well so....)
