    Sir, Octal no 5674 7s com is 2103 eqv decimal 1091 8s com is 2104 eqv decimal 1092 Same eqv. In decimal no of octal5674 is 3004 9s com is 6995 10s com 6996 We are not geting the same R's com result in different radix for a given number. I thought it should coming same! Could you please explain?

    Sir you said that in (r-1)'s complement there is no need of borrow.but for getting 7777 we are using borrow then how can it be a simple circuit than r's complement

    TEJA SWAROOP that’s the explanation how we got it. But we don’t need to do this always as we know 7’s complement :7777 9’s complement. :9999 15’scomplement. : FFFF You just need to subtract from these number.

    The number 8 doesn't exist in octal number system. Its 1 through 7. Just as in binary number system digits are 0 and 1... 2 isn't included. Making 7 the highest. And 7777 - 5674 logical.

    Sir if I have to find 9's complement of 469 using(r-1) method than first I have to find 8's complement and it would be (888-469)=419 and to find 9's complement I have to add 1 in it so (419+1)=420 but the answer given in book is 530??Can someone please explain which step I'M doing wrong???

    9's is for decimal and 8's for octal so if you want to find the 9's complement for 469 using r-1 method you just simply subtract it from 999 so 999-469 = 530.

    No.first you have to calculate 7s complement and add one to that then you get 8s complement.for calculating 7 s complement....7777 Minus that number.

    r-1 compliment is used by computers to reduce calculations. As it totally removes the need of using carry or borrow while subtraction. Subtracting 1 to r^n makes all the digits their highest possible value in its form. Like subtracting 1 to 10^4 makes it 9999 hence no carry or borrowing is required whilr subtracting.

    (r-1)'s comp= r's comp -1 - N in above ex N = 1101 1's comp = 2's comp -1 -1101 -> 2's comp -1 (binary subtraction) gives 1111 so 1's comp = 1111-1101

    octal subtraction of 10000-1 =7777..here both 10000 and 1 is octal number..the subtraction process is different from decimal/normal subtraction

    Kriti Varshney tht trick is only for r-1 complement :)).. U can verify it by trying for two compl. Also.... 😕 use tht carefully

    No because the base is r=16 and by the formule you have (r-1)=15 which represents F in hexadecimal.
