Quotations (And Holden Hats)
In which John Green, wearing an actual replica of the hat worn by fictional character Holden Caulfield, discusses quotations, and the decontextualizing of a quote from his novel "An Abundance of Katherines." Also there is a brief discussion of fishing boat proceeds. And frenching the llama.

Mine is: "Not all those who wander are lost." - JRR Tolkien Just because I love Lord of the Rings and whenever I go through a bad time it just makes me think maybe I've wandered a bit from my path in life, but that doesn't mean I'm lost. It merely means that I'm taking a detour and things can get better; I can find the path again. Or I could be over analyzing. xD Full Quote: “All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king.”

I have a lot of favorite quotes, but right now my favorite one is from the Catcher in the Rye (no i'm not trying to be a kiss ass) I had to read a classic novel for my L.A (Language arts) class and I ended up picking Catcher in the Rye (Before I knew it was a big nerd fighter thing) "Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do , I have to catch everybody if they start going over the cliff - I mean if there running and they don't look where they're going. I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I'd do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all" ~ Holden Caulfield page 173.

'I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul.' - From 'Invictus' by William Ernest Henley 'Invictus' is one of my favourite poems. Its deep and meaningful and I find it brings comfort in dark times. In fact, it was a favourite Nelson Mandelas too. He used to say it was very important to him during him time in prison.

“We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy.” - Dumbledore This one has always stuck with me. I don't think that we should always go on the path of least resistance.
"What really gets me, are the books that make me want to be terrific friends with the author, so I can call him up whenever I want and know what he was talking about." Not sure if that is my favourite quotation, but it was the one running through my head while I watched this.

And little did John Green know that almost 3 years and 6 months after the creation of this video, he would be making one of the most inspirational videos using that very same quote written by Robert Frost.

My favorite quote at the moment: "how strange and godlike was a composer's power, who from the grave could lead through sequences of emotion, which he alone had felt at first, a girl like her who had never heard of his name, and never would have a clue to his personality" - Thomas Hardy

"It was a privilege to have my heart broken by you, Hazel Grace." - Augustus Waters (The Fault in Our Stars) "I will not forget one line of this, not one day of this, I will not forget when the Doctor was me." - The 11th Doctor "No matter how old you are, an empty wrapping paper tube is still a lightsaber." - Russ "Geronimo!" - The 11th Doctor "Adventure is out there!" - Russell (Up) "I'm not beautiful, I'm as radiant as the sun." Katniss Everdeen Thank you for taking time to read these
"It's not a metaphor, I just thought it was funny." - John Green No, but seriously I have so many. I literally have a notebook that's just full of quotes. A couple favorites: "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library." - Jorge Luis Borges "I have never let school interfere with my education" - Mark Twain "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." - Carl Sagan
"Fiction is the truth inside the lie." -Stephen King

My favorite quote at the moment is: "We're all stories in the end, just make it a good one, eh?" -The Doctor
“When adults say, "Teenagers think they are invincible" with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don't know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing.
