While the "too dead to be a nerdfighter?" Might sound like a joke to new comers. It's actually heartwarming and a little sad. Ester Earl was one of the first Nerdfighters and is responsible for a lot (most of) how this community acts and has grown in the years since her passing. She was just a teenager when she died of cancer but she's inspired the whole community in a way few people ever could. In a lot of ways she's the heart of the community, a kind of guiding force for how we should all try to be. I may not have known her personally but I've seen the effect she had on not just Hank and John as people, but on how they are as KZreadrs, and authors, and on those who call themselves Nerdfighters. So yes, you are never too dead to be a nerdfighter. Or too leave an impact on other people.

I'd love to see an updated version of this video - clearly a lot of stuff has changed in the seven years since this video was made (TFiOS, VidCon, NerdCon, CrashCourse, SciShow, not to mention the awesome success of the Project 4 Awesome, etc.)

Last year I bought the book the fault in our stars collector's edition and i found a receipt that said "Dear nerdfighter, you may not know it...but welcome to nerdfighteria. Enjoy the wonder that is John Green! ♥ Your fellow Nerdfighter! *happyface* DFTBA" It was a receipt from steak 'n shake and placed on the pages between 44 and 45......I'm just saying this bcuz who ever sent that note to me watched this video and if it was any of you plz say so tnx soooo..yeah K Bye!!!

How amazing is it that we went from this small, nerdy community based around vloggers, to building a multi-million hospital centre in Sierra Leone and fighting companies to make affordable Tuberculosis diagnostics and treatments. A testament to what you can achieve if you are commited to a good cause without being swayed by all the doubters. Long may this fight against world suck continue!

This was my first vlogbrothers video ever. After starting in 2007 and watching all the way through, it was nice to see it again, and be a little less confused, but no less happy to have found Nerdfighteria. DFTBA.

This was recommended to me after just finishing the P4A 2022. Look at these children. Their hair. TFIOS didn’t even exist yet. French the Llama is definitely a thing still. So much has changed but also nothing has changed. dftba! 🤓✌🏻

Here I am, so so sooo many years later, writing a paper on how Nerdfighteria impacted my youth. Thank you, past Brothers Green, for putting so many iconic quotes into one video and thus drastically reducing the amount of videos I have to try to cite. Oh, and also drastically making me a better person.

I'm not sure if I'm a nerdfighter. On the one hand, I really like TFioS, vlogbrothers videos humor and all the charity work to decrease worldsuck. Plus my puff level extremely high. On the other hand, I don't really like Star Wars etc. and, as an anarchist libertarian, I abhor most of nerdfighteria's political views (sorry). Am I a decepticon?

Well, it's OK to disagree on political views, as long as it is done appropriately. Rants are not helpful. I'm an atheist, so I can disagree with John on a religious/theological level, but that doesn't make me a decepticon.

John, I know you probably won't see this but I read your book, the fault in our stars this weekend (for a person who has read probably 3 proper books in their life which took a couple months each, 1 weekend is pretty fast). It gave me a new aspect on life an how precious it truly is and that after we are gone, we will regret not doing more to be remembered by. I just want to thank you for writing that book an I would like to say you are a magnificent writer :)

"In your pants" works with most (if not all) book titles... Find me a book that doesn't sound hilarious with "in your pants" tacked onto the end, I dare you

Now that I think about it, it's not too difficult. Walden, Candide, Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter, Poor Richard's Almanack, Mockingjay, The Brothers Karamazov, basically anything that's a name. The phenomenon seems to work best with book titles containing the words "the" or "a," or simply describing physical or otherwise symbolic objects. It doesn't work too well with proper nouns, however.
