Hi Jody! Or should I say, mister JOMW? Did you know that there’s an updated version of the black Phoibos Wavemaster? Bigger screws, 12 o’clock marker is now in one piece and a couple more supposed improvements. I don’t own one (yet, I’m deciding between the Helm Vanuatu and updated Wavemaster). Do you think it’s possible to review the updated black Wavemaster? Kind regard, Remy (From The Netherlands).

Just went to the Phoibos site and read the story as to the couple who founded the company. Much respect and it was time to shake up the market in launching high quality homages and also their newer designs. It's getting to the point for collectors who can even afford the outrageous $6k plus for entry level Rolex steel to wake up. For me One Rolex is more than enough. Wishing Phoibos much success.

Great review mate! I love that you review mostly great value watches within range of most casual collectors out here. This one ticks all the right boxes, with 300m WR, sapphire, good size, reliable proven Seiko mvt. that hacks & hand winds, plus with the added benefit of an original design over previous Phoibos, Neymar, etc.

OMG!!! That is a stunning offering from Phoebos! They've done everything right!! Cant wait for the head to head. That should be interesting. Great video.

It feels like I've been waiting several months for this - both the watch and your review! With the spec-for-the-cash *and* the design coming together so well, Phoibos has a real winner on its hands here - and, I think, shortly on my wrist too..! Cheers for another great video.

Phoibos are doing some nice watches, their new reef master, which comes out in the spring, looks great as well. For all the 'made in china' haters, sell your smartphones, electronics etc. Made in China is often a very good thing.

I agree with you. "Made in China" haters really don't understand that most of the electronics if not all they use are Made in China. I am a big fan of Nike shoes though they are "Made in China" its the quality that matters not its origin! Very happy with my new Phoibos Wavemaster! The watch is superb!

I just got mine today! I'm very impressed, this timepiece is superb! Everything you need on a watch this piece has it; sapphire crystal, engineered bracelet, ceramic bezel, handwinding and hackable, and super bright lume! Can't believe this watch is less than $300! 😳😎

I just got a Wavemaster in blue which looks amazing with the orange second hand and orange numbers around the face. Had to have a watchmaker size the bracelet for me because those little screw pins were impossible to remove. Great bang for your buck watch that feels incredibly well made.

The first time I seen this piece on Arons channel I had it bought in under 5 minutes bit of an impulse buy but could you blame me what a beauty! And for €199 on the Europe site, sapphire crystal, ar coating, the beautiful dial, ceramic bezel and the lume! How could I go wrong, reminds me of the Helm venuatu a bit 😊

I love this watch because it slightly reminds me of the Tudor Black Bay and it's my favourite watch. Great video!!

Love your channel! U always have the most interesting watches at great prices! I just bought my first Vostok and it’s worth so much more than I paid for it ! It looks nice on the wrist and I’m glad I got the information on the wobbly crown or I would have thought it was broken, anyway your channel is my favorite and now with this video I somehow gotta inform the wife that I need another watch because I watched just one more watch lol !

Thanks for introducing me to Phoibos. The Wave Master seems to be always on my wrist. It might have just replaced my Vostok Amphibia as my every day watch.

Great choice of color, looking at their website I would have chosen the same one. I have no experience with Phoibos yet but they look like great watches providing a lot of value for the money. Awesome video as always! All the best, Oleg.

Were you disappointed trying to put that on a different band? I love the watch but it doesn't like anything but the bracelet. I like the bracelet but I had plans that the watch didn't agree with

Great review as always. Was looking at one of these today at LongIslandwatch. Didn't realize it, just can't do a chinese watch though.

I keep buying all steel homages or a little different like Seiko 55 Fathoms, SKX's, Casio Duro and then a few of the Swiss Big Boys. I like this wave pattern Seamasteresque, 6 o'clock date, the polish and bezel, 42m about max for me. Good to know there's a distributor in States, never ordered from China. Great vid, Jody.

I hate the snobbery we are used to with "Made in China" there are good Chinese companies out there such as Lenovo, Huawei and One Plus that made excellent products for good value. Phoibos are heading in the right direction and with a Seiko movement inside you can't go wrong, really tempted but I need to stop buying watches, I have been giving a few watches away to my nephews because I have a problem.

From what I've read, Seagull (another chinese company) makes the best budget skeleton watch as well. They make some nice looking good quality watches for their price point.

I agree sir. Many good offerings are coming out of China. If we blame the "People" as a whole for every failed unit or garbage item that comes out of China, we are just as bad. Look at Chevrolet and other car makers selling garbage. They have to KNOW that they are! Sure, China sells some junk, because, like it would be here, without laws, no one makes them sell good products. that said, many new and old company's from China make great things and sell them proudly. Lets do not lump them all as "China" and cry fowl or we are just as bad. I accidentally bought the Quartz version of Phoibos and it is BEAUTIFUL ! I like everything about it, the finish, the feel, the weight, all but quartz and that is my fault. I guess when price shopping, I missed the part about it being quarrts. Still, it is a fantastic watch for that ? $110 I think. Oh, first watch I own with blue lume.

You, sir, are in my black book! Thanks to you, I now own two Phoibos watches, a green dial Great White and a blue dial Wavemaster. Overall, I think I like the Wavemaster the best. I would subscribe to your channel but then I would probably buy "just one more watch" until I was bankrupt!

Mine arrived today, very impressed, wears waaayy better than expected for its dimensions and build is excellent thus far. Everything lines up, bracelet sized to my wrist perfectly. A few weeks will tell how this goes.

@@Ynsaniac It was good, one thing I did notice though was that when I attempted to swap the bracelet for a NATO the case finishing between the lugs was very poor. I've turned into a massive Seiko-phile now though and have a 6309-7040, Turtle and 7002-7000. I need neither the SKX or the Phoibos now, but I'd still have another Phoibos in spite of the minor issue with mine. (Changed my account btw, hence different name).

My Wave Master had one flaw. The case back sand blast was slightly flawed with some bald spots. I asked for a replacement case back but none were available. They offered to refund 40 USD which I accepted. They were stand up with great customer service....love the watch and would buy again!!!

I've been looking for a new affordable diver for a while now, this one looks like a real contender. Love the look without the crownguards. Great that they're shipping in the EU as well.

A lot of watch for for less than $250. Looking forward for the comparison against the SKX. One more watch for the buying list of the year, thank you for the review!

Was looking at the blue version but seeing the black may have changed my mind, having said that green is my favourite colour! so not sure what to do.

I agree - a great set of specs for the price and overall very nicely done. A lot to like here. My gripes though : 15mm thick is too thick, bracelet looks a bit chunky without a taper and my own personal bugbear - I need a day/date. Still happy with the Orient Mako 2 myself then.

I got a v2 version recently which had some definite improvements. It's a little different and i didn't take to it at first but over a couple of weeks I have come to like it a lot. Overall build quality and finish for the price is great.

Oof that chapter ring and dial is perfect, another one added to the to get list

this one has a vibe to it similar to the traska freediver and some squale mixed in and thats why im really tempted now ...damn

for that price point I think I'm going to get myself one, but I might just wait for the second part of the review before I do.

I've loved these budget divers since your first review of the brand. Very happy they have replaced the company name on the face with the king octopus logo. Makes the entire timepiece look much classier imo. Definitely looking to pick one of these up. Looking forward to the skx007 battle.

Pictures definitely dont do this beauty justice! Im thinking about the blue one with no date. I ordered py007a (green sub homage) but it hasn't shown up in the mail yet im excited to see the quality first hand! Love your videos

My SKX013 turned out to be a complete lemon in the first month of ownership. Day one the bezel would bind up to the point I couldn't turn it anymore, about a month in (by the way I had sent it away to Seiko hoping they could help which they didn't after having the watch for 2+ weeks) it stopped keeping time. 2 days in a row it was falling behind by 7 minutes (prior to noticing this it was behind by over a day (yes I'm still not in the habit of checking my watch over my phone). Last thing that happened is I took it off and left it at home while I went to school in for 6hrs while waiting for a response from the seller, and I came home to find the watch stopped. Luckily the seller after hearing me complain for the last time sent me a replacement that will be arriving tomorrow. BUT I've learned my lesson with Seiko and I don't think I'll buy one ever again or at least not without seeing the watch first.

I have the same watch you reviewed and it´s a wonderful watch.

Just One More Watch Sure Thing. I was breaking into a sweat trying to re-size my Seiko SARB033 pin and collar system but managed it. Oh and I adjusted the strap of a recently acquired Seiko SCED019 Giugiaro chronograph. It had discs, hinges & pins!😅

I think this is my next watch! What a beaut!

I like the date at the bottom. Doesn't get in the way like the 3 o'clock position.

I've been waiting for that watch to come out for a while now. I kept trying to preorder, but it was never available.

It's weird man there have been so many new good youtubers that review watches for the normal masses while some other ones went a little power happy. Keep it up. I got the Phoibos ceramic I love it now I have to get this one. I also ordered a tissell . Should I sell my ceramic keep the tissell and order this new Phoibos.

Dirty Ribz my .02: Not an homage guy so at best keep the tissel and sell your old phoibos. Although tissel is going to have a better resale price as they are harder to acquire. If were me, dump all homages and buy original or at least inspired designs.

Mate, I would wait until the Tissell arrives, then probably sell the ceramic and buy the Wave Master. Leave me a comment/email about Tissell v Phoibos Ceramic please! Love to hear a direct comparison.

Love the new design but really looking forward to their Reef Master. Double dome crystal and cushion case, yes please! Maybe replacing my skx007 as my daily do it all watch.

Just bought one for £170 new on ebay , didnt have time to research as auction was ending ,just impulse buy ,but so far looks good.

I was on the fence about this one, now definitely ordering!

I have the blue version and it's a brilliant watch, very high quality and the bracelet is superb. Definitely worth the £200 I paid and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a fairly unique design watch....👍👍👍

I am a sucker for blue on my 7 inch wrist. But you convinced me to buy the black one. It is a real bargain. A lightly modded Seiko 007 on rubber with crystal, signed crown and coin edge bezel is almost double the price in the Netherlands. I really like it that they ship from the UK. Hope the Brexit won't make taxes skyhigh as it is when I buy stuff from Japan of the States though😉

Was about to buy a skx seiko as my diver but i already have a 2 seikos a vintage chrono and the alpinist.. so i think i will get this one instead, good looking watch

My problem with this watch is the bezel, the lack of minute or second markings really lessens the functionality of the bezel.

Master Jody, do you have a non edited/wrist shot pic of the wave master mother of pearl? I'm very interested to buy it

I bought this watch and the quality is really good. However it does feel a bit bulky and the bracelet would have benefitted from some tapering for sure. Its a shame because it looks very good. Overall solid watch. I ordered a Barton elite rubber strap for it which I should be getting on Monday and I'm hoping this will make it wear a bit less chunky.If they were able to shave 1mm off the case thickness and taper the bracelet and clasp it would have been perfect.

The reflections are strong with this one! That crystal needs an AR coating
