I'm one of the lucky ones who got the PY010E abalone shell Wavemaster. What a *gorgeous* dial in person! The way it catches the light is mesmerizing. To give a sense of how awesome it is, when the box arrived, my wife's first reaction was, "Oh no... another watch? Really?!" But once I opened the box and took this beauty out, she looked at it silently for about 10 seconds and then said, "Wow. I want to hate it, but I just can't. That's amazing." :) The bezel feel is solid, the markers + bezel numbers + chapter ring alignment is great, I love the bluish lume, and the bracelet design is intriguing. Thanks for finding this one, Marc!

Phoibos is an amazing product. I own three and have no complains after three years so far. As owner of Rolex and Omegas I wear my Phoibos for dayly beaters and surfing. 😎🏄‍♂️

I just got the wave master with mother of pearl dial in the mail 3 days ago and I love it!

Hello, I'm a Kiwi and in New Zealand we call that shell "Paua" roughly pronounced (pahwah). Due to our cold waters the Paua shell tends to be the most vibrant of Abalone shells. Not quite my thing on a watch but it makes fantastic dot markers on a guitar neck!

Where I come from, in the pocketknife world, abalone is the less colorful version and Paua is the brightly colored species.

I got the green dial when it launched. Its stunning value for the money you pay. Only thing to consider is the engineer bracelet doesnt taper down . Its 22mm in width and some can struggle with that size to wear. The whole case design reminds me alot Tudor black bay in shape and hight. Those who like thicker cases will love wearing the Phoibos.

The Abalone dial is incredible, c'est belle !!

They are fantastic.Masterpieces. I am impressed both watches and a presentation👍

For completeness sake don't forget the signed crown. Suuuper significant! It's a great value watch - I have one of the green ones and I'm very happy with it. The lume is long lasting and the watch runs ~5s/day fast.The bezel on mine has less backplay, but it's noticeable. My principal criticism is the bracelet - it has slightly sharp, unfinished edges. It also weighs a fair bit. I think I will take it off the watch and do some gentle work on the inside edges with 400 grit sandpaper. Having said that, the engineer bracelet looks fine and is super flexible.

That is one of the nicest dials I have ever seen. Phoibos really comes out with some interesting dials. One part you missed as most do is the weight of the watch and I can not find this watch in your inventory. Perhaps it sold out already.

Crap.. that wobbly bezel is a deal-breaker for me. Too bad because I really, really like the green Wave Master .. :( Kudos to you for pointing out that backplay! If it would make any sense for me to order watches from the US, yours would be the first store I'd consider.

Sadly I bought one of the older models of the wavemaster. The screws in the bracelet were tiny and had some sort of glue holding them in. I took it to two different watch repair shops to try and adjust the bracelet. It never worked and with the lame bezel and gross chunky ness, I just decided to get rid of it. Much happier with the skx013

Rly ? That's a shame , I own it granted I hate metal bracelets and it's been on a nato since June 2018 I've had no issues with it and got the no date version . This and the skx are 2 watches that get the most wrist time out of my 8 watch collection .

I have Version 1 green dial. Mine is a no date. I like this one better, the version 1 had completely polished sides while this only has a small amount of polishing. I also really like this style of bracelet.

Excellent video . I just ordered my Abalone Wavemaster from the EU Phobios website . But now I’ve heard that the rubber strap isn’t very long ?! Which is disappointing as I was hoping to use it for diving when on holiday . I’m a Divemaster so I really want to use it but I need to put it on over the sleeve of my wetsuit !? With it 7mm thick - Any suggestions ? Could I fit an aftermarket strap to it that’s longer 🤿 Thanks for your time - in advance 🙏🏻 Andy

Hey, Mark. Are you ordering as many of these watches from Phoibos as you can? It seems that as soon as you get them in, they’re gone pretty quick. I know they’re a smaller producer so you may be somewhat limited to what you can order.

Abalone shell reminds me of Deep Blue which has done this for a while and offers multiple Abalone shell colors. I've wondered if Phoibos and Deep Blue use the same factory as they are very similar.

Good on them for having a go at innovation. Green dial OK if a little "muddy" but the shell alternative reminds me of something offered in a $2 shop. Bezel not great. Do they all have the same issue Marc?

Phoibos watches are quite striking especially the abalone dial. IMO it is some what distracting due to complication of designs. Not appealing to me in a diving situation, but nevertheless beautiful but I'm not a diver. Thank you.

You didn't show the bazel action of the shell version dial watch.

Sweet. 1nd. Lol. The second watch reminds me of the Aragon watch line. (I have 2 of them). Great review sir.

ive eyed the wavemaster before but now seeing the abalone dial i really feel like getting one right now, bezel play is a huge letdown though especially from phoibos whose machining work i quite like otherwise

Forgot to mention but my wavemaster has a bezel action that feels like a 3000 $ watch. They got it spot on. Maybe i was lucky im not sure?

Looks gorgeous, however the hour hand on the "paint dial" one isn't flat. This was my issue with phoibos, bought a great wall : awesome bezel, couldn't see any craftsmanship failure. Bought a second one : very disappointing bezel action. The quality control disappointed me. The presented bezel in this video is disappointing but I'm sure some people got lucky with their wavemaster and have super good bezel action.

Different watches have different appeals. If I were him I'd always focus on what would make the client happiest as that would ensure repeat business. There are people in the world happy as a clam with a 50$ Timex Expedition.

Surprisingly with the white indices and the way the light reflects off of the abalone it's incredibly legible. It's honestly one of my most legible. The bezel is not great.
