You’re here because you want to quit smoking! First of all, I want to congratulate you for getting this far. Well done for taking the first step to one of the best things you can do for your own health and other people’s health too!
In today’s video I am going to help you quit! You will find out the BEST way to quit, self-help tips AND the benefits of quitting! So what are we waiting for, let’s crack on!
THE SCIENCE:
FIRST let’s have a look at the science - Why is smoking addictive? And what makes it so hard to quit?
Now on this channel I like to give you the FACTS! Here’s one for you: A typical cigarette has about 600 hundred chemicals in it and if that wasn’t bad enough - when lit up that can amount to 7000
Of those chemicals, Nicotine is the one that makes smoking addictive. Nicotine stimulates nerve endings to release dopamine which makes you feel good. It’s as simple as that!
There’s a quick click quiz you can take to find out how strong your smoking addiction is - smokefree.gov/challenges-when...
HOW TO QUIT SMOKING:
Onto the meaty part of the video. You could try to quit cold turkey - OR you can DOUBLE your chance of successfully quitting by using nicotine replacement therapy products - otherwise known as NRT.
NRT products help to keep your cravings under control as you withdraw from smoking cigarettes. You can find more information on the products available - www.cancer.org/healthy/stay-a...
You can Triple your chance of successfully quitting by regularly seeing a stop smoking advisor, IN ADDITION to using a stop smoking aid such as NRT. Don't forget to download the Stoptober app too by the NHS really helpful its like your little pocked stop smoking advisor and free.
TOP TIPS TO STOP SMOKING:
The first one is to grab a pen and paper , sit down and make a list of reasons to quit!
One reason to quit might be to watch your loved ones grow up and spend more time with them! Whatever your reasons are, write them down and carry them with you to help curb those cravings for a cigarette. Another reason you might want to quit is for the health benefits- such as reducing your risk of lung cancer.
Get active - go for a short walk to help your brain release chemicals that naturally reduce your cravings. This is especially effective for your short-lived impulsive cravings! Exercise also stimulates your body to release endorphins which make you feel good.
Get rid of smoking accessories you associate with smoking like ashtrays and cigarette lighters. Replace them with something like a nice coaster for your coffee mug and a stick of gum in your pocket in place of the lighter. This makes it feel less like you’re missing something. done
Tell people you are quitting! Build a support network of people around you who will be able to help you.
QUIT SMOKING BENEFITS:
You will feel the benefits of quitting 20 minutes after your last cigarette! Your heart rate will slow down and after 48 hours toxic carbon monoxide will be flushed out of your body. This means you will start to feel less tired and breathe better.
On top of that, you will sleep better, food will taste better and you will have more energy!
You will also have whiter teeth, clearer skin and reduce your risk of lung, throat and mouth cancer.
Your immune system will get a huge boost after you quit smoking - you will heal faster and you’ll be less likely to get ill.
Did I forget to mention that you’ll also save a lot of money by quitting smoking? The list goes on! For more information www.nhs.uk/live-well/quit-smo...

I was a smoker for 13years. Now im 26 years old i finally quit smoking. Trust me bud the first day is only the hardest. once you finish the first day of cessation, the following day is pretty easy. Just put in your head that you are sick. and puffing cigarette will kill you. 8months smoke free now and im loving the result.

I would always be jealous and genuinely happy for everyone whom I offered a cigarette to and they said "No Thanks no longer a smoker" Today I join them 🎉
Woke up like any other day....had 1 cigarette ....no money went scrounging around for change like a fiend still didn't have enough but found a coupon .....had to be at work in like 20 mins ....went to the store and the clerk told me the coupon was expired.....i died inside.... I quit that day 3 days of hell ...tbh looking back really it seemed worse then it was ....felt like world was ending and I was glad ...really sucked but i don't smoke cigarettes anymore smoked for 18 years nice to be done finally
22 years heavy smoker, quit for 35 days today. very difficult. i think the key is to 'get prepared for boredom'. the first few days i felt absolute boredom, nothing to do, what to do now? , something is terribly missing, always want a cigarette, dont want to get up, and life is very meaningless. to be ready to live in this boredom was my biggest helper i believe. it is a war and the weapon that is fighting you and attacking you every day is 'boredom'. you need to be prepared for it, and you wont be able to destroy it, just be ready to face it every day and do not say i give up. it will keep coming every minute probably. no problem, just stand your ground.

I’m 24 & I’ve been smoking since 15, I’m now finally considering quitting as it makes me feel sick & hurts my throat sometimes. I will stick to vaping for a while though, until I can wane myself off it completely. My Dad had smoking hypnosis & it worked for him, that’s my last resort. My Dad quit smoking 3 years before I was born because he didn’t want me being around cigarette smoke. What a man! One of my many inspirations

I have a video about my journey and it starts with a true desire to quit smoking. The issues I had to go through it’s like I smoked 20years and now I’m realizing how it was mostly hard because we really don’t want to do it.... we like it and it soothes us so the desire to quit is totally necessary and must be strong! The nicotine in those kind of products is less addictive than the nicotine in cigarettes overall. This has to do with other chemical compounds that increase the habit forming properties of nicotine. Acetaldehyde is a chemical that increases neurological response to nicotine. It’s formed in cigarette smoke when tobacco additives are burned. Ammonia is intentionally added during cigarette manufacturing because it converts bound nicotine molecules into free molecules which causes an enhanced effect. There’s also MAOIs present that play a roll in increasing nicotine dependency.

For some cold turky is more appropriate, but for most it is very helpful. Even if you are addicted to NRT or vape it is much much better than ciggarettes. I'd much preferto be addicted to NRT than ciggarettes. It's called harm reduction.

Don't Vape, it's killing people now. We've got youngsters with dubke collapsed lungs in the UK due to vaping. They have no idea how bad it truly is, might not have tar but holy s*** the scarring it causes is way worse than smoking itself. Long term it looks like a hell of a lot of people will start dropping off because of vaping, governments are actually trying to ban mainline shops selling any Vape equipment. Nicotine is fine, glycerin and glycol isn't when the combustion process starts.

Smoking has got to be more mental than physical when trying to quit because the second I found out I was pregnant with each one of my 3 babies those cigarettes went right in the trash and never picked up again until I finished breastfeeding. I just said to myself your done for a year and that’s it because I never would have been able to live with the guilt. It makes me sick that I was able to toss those cigarettes for my children but I find it so difficult to quit for myself now at 58yo. I want to quit smoking more than ever and I was successful for 4days in the beginning of January but the entire time I couldn’t stop thinking about wanting a cigarette, so day 5 I gave in and went back to it. Psychology and physically I want to be done with smoking forever and never look back, and I am determined to make this happen because I don’t want a heart attack or difficulties with breathing to be the reason I quit, I want to quit before any of those things happen because it’s terrifying to think about and because I have an 18 and 20yr that I need to be around for not to mention future grand babies that I want to be around for. Today is the last cigarette I smoked and the day I’m choosing to quit smoking for good!!!
Thank you for the tips, I will do this!

Yes stop now if you can. I started out the same way. Eventually something stressful happened and then I started smoking regularly. Maybe get the gum and just use it in social situations that make you want to smoke.

That’s how I started. Just socially smoking than it turned into more.

I am a pharmacist also and I am a smoker trying to quit . currently I am using E-cigarettes it is harsh a little bit but I will do my best and I am thinking that bupropion might help ,so I will discuss this with my PCP and I really loved this video
What sucks is I can’t use replacements for nic because I’m under 21 but I used to buy cigarettes legally at 18 so they basically got me addicted then screwed me because they changed the age from 18 to 21 here in CO
Thank you for the suggestions I've been smoking for about 10 to 12 years and it just make me feel like shit and I can really want to quit... Smoke about a pack a day I hope this helps me

Someone I love is trying to quit smoking, but he finds that nicotine gum makes him feel sick. He’s only smoking 4-6 cigarettes a day. Can he take half a piece of gum, if he feels it’s too strong?

What 4 to 6
Its 2:19 pm CST today 812/21. I quit. I haven't had a cigarette today. I'm so tired of not being able to breathe correctly. I'm tired of not having any energy, I'm tired of worrying about my health, I'm tired of spending $300.00 a month I don't have, I'm tired of the smell, the ashes, I'm tired of my teeth always being stained, I'm tired of not resting properly, I'm tired of waking up feeling exhausted, im tired of scheduling my day around my cigarette schedule, I'm tired of not being able to go to certain places because I know people look at me funny because I smell like an ash tray, I'm just F'ng tired of being tired of everything. I want my brain and my life back. Please wish me luck. I've asked God to help me so I know I'll succeed but I'm ask y'all to just be here for me if I need you. Will it be hard? Sure. Am I afraid? Hell no. F! Cigarettes.
Thank you for helping me ☺️🤩
