Well, here is my hotel tour of the last, but certainly not the least of the 3 places I stayed at while on a trip to the Florida Keys back in March! This hotel, The Drop Anchor Resort here in Islamorada was built in the 1950s and is BY FAR one of the quirkiness, wackiest and most colorful and unique hotels I've ever stayed in!!! If you end up staying here, you have the choice of staying in a 2 story motel building, one of 2 old school multi family homes or a converted RV/Trailer!!! This place literally has it all in terms of the kind of rooms you can stay in, and is conveniently located right on the water with Kayak rentals, has a relatively nice swimming pool, hammocks and is overall just a relaxing place to be in addition to being very charming. The room I and my mom and Uncle Frank stayed in was in the Motel building right next to the front desk and it was pretty spacious and unique. The Windows looked like ones you'd see in a 1950s High School and the room while it appeared to be renovated still had a lot of charm to it.
It isn't completely perfect, the three of us all stayed in one room in the same bed because It was going to cost my family $400 MORE A NIGHT to get a room with more than one bed, and there is No Central A/C in the room, which while this wasn't a problem during our stay, it definitely could be during the Summer. Plus, there appeared to be potential mold developing in the bathroom, which needs to be checked out immediately. Beyond that though, this is an incredibly unique, charming and quirky hotel that I would definitely recommend staying at if you have the means to stay here. It does have a few drawbacks, but if you can live with them, you will really enjoy your time here as well as all of the character this place offers in addition to it's relaxed atmosphere.
