it's crazy so many teams rely on drop coverage in such a 3pt centric league. thibs lives and dies w/ drop coverage and he's widely considered a "defensive guru" i'm not a fan of drop coverage but it's interesting to see so many teams still deploying it so regularly

I feel like if executed correctly with the help and being in the gaps and actually flying out to the kick outs, it can be effective. But it’s gotta mainly be used because many centers can’t move their feet well side to side and can’t recover quickly on the high hedge, which more often than not ends in a wide open corner three or mismatch in the post. There has got to be some analytics that point to drop being effective, particularly against teams who don’t excel in the midrange or have Steph Curry.

@@SimpleEats35 I'm not surprised about the prevalence of drop coverage, it's the personnel like this that shouldn't be they are more athletic and more potential to be disruptive. The issue here is the lack of principles around drop that they get beat on that they shouldn't be getting beat on.

I like to watch these videos from the perspective that he’s actually insulting the players making these boneheaded plays, but calls out the coach as a super dry sarcasm for the low level basketball IQ these modern players have for the game.
