Quilt or comforter? It’s a tough decision! For anyone who is having trouble picking between quilts and comforters, I am here to help! I’m going to be talking about the similarities, differences, and what types of sleepers should choose a quilt or a comforter.
0:00 Introduction
0:19 Quilt Definition And Construction
1:02 Comforter Definition And Construction
1:46 Quilt vs Comforter Similarities
2:03 Quilt vs Comforter Differences
3:38 Who Should Choose A Quilt?
4:17 Who Should Choose A Comforter?
So, in the discussion of #quiltvscomforter, there are some similarities between these two types of bedding. #Quiltsandcomforters can both feature similar materials such as cotton, down, and wool. Also, they can both feature some sort of sewn-through construction.
They really are very different in a number of ways, making #quilts and #comforters a better match for different types of sleepers.
#Quilts are better bedding for hot sleepers. They are usually thinner than #comforters and shouldn’t be so warm. #Quilts are also a good choice for people who want a layered look to their bed and those who want to change the look of their bedroom.
#Comforters, on the other hand, are a better fit for those colder nights. In general, #comforters are warmer than #quilts and should keep most sleepers nice and insulated when the air is frigid. #Comforters are also better for people who prefer something fluffier and those who don’t want numerous layers of bedding.

I would choose a quilt, but a lightweight one. I've sleep really really hot, so I can't have very much on me at all. I love the softness of a comforter, but I just get too hot.

I loved all my Mawmaw's quilts! Great memory patches on them that make them truly personal. They're nice but I'm a comforter user when it comes to sleeping. The quilts are not as warm (as you mentioned). I found my perfect medium with just a comforter over me at night. I like the fluffiness of them and the ability to totally cover me up with extra space to spare.

I can’t use a comforter as a blanket because of how stuffy and hot I get at night. My comforter covers my bed and I use a quilted blanket to sleep. The quilted blanket feels very comfortable, it’s light, but will keep you warm.

I've had a quilt that has done a very good job of keeping keeping me warm during the winter with a densely packed layer of cotton or polyester I'm not certain and not as lofty as a comforter but still very dense and thick. That quilt also probably weighed maybe three or four times the weight of a comforter or a duvet which I can see some people wanting that. Quilts can be absolutely no joke but comforters and duvets are what people want right now. Part of me wants quilts to be back in style again, especially thick, rustic looking ones like that again.

The best comforters are those with a design that keeps the fill in a small sized pocket or baffle. The worst are those with a long top to bottom channel which forces the filling to the bottom of the bed.

I should probably use a quilt on my bed as I do tend to sleep warm, but I still like the fluffy thickness of a comforter. It just feels more snuggy to me and I do like to feel snuggy!

I tend to sleep hot so i use just a sheet year round but i guess if i had to choose one i would go with a comforter since its lighter and doesn’t make me as hot as a quilt, especially a wool quilt

The term comforter is originally from the term comfortable, and had ties piercing through and tying together all of the layers, leaving the little tie tufts on the top. Quilts, on the other hand, had stitches running in patterns of geometrics, florals, or whatever design, binding the top layer, inner layer and backing. Both comforters and quilts can be, but don’t have to be pieced together from smaller pieces of fabric, aka ‘patchwork.’ Bedspreads and blankets are both just a single thickness of fabric. The duvet was known as a feather bed on the American side of the pond, and needed a protective outer cover since feathers are too hard to wash (unless you’re a bird). Quilts should never be sat on since it pops or breaks the stitching. Nothing was wasted in early America so old quilts, comforters, and blankets were often recycled as the inner batting of a newly pieced patchwork top and a homespun backing. Women and girls would create many beautiful tops to store in their hope chests to be assembled later when needed. That assembly frequently took place in sewing circles or when women would gather in a quilting bee.

It depends on the type of quilt. I prefer my home made quilts. I can choose the color, the style, light cottons for summer. My winter quilts are flannel tops with 2 layers of poly cotton batting, with a fleece back. I get so cold because my room has no insulation. I have found that store bought poly comforter is NOT WARM ENOUGH. You obviously have never slept under a winter quilt, maybe a summer quilt. The warmest quilt I made is a 100% denim quilt with a fleece backing, that’s for the deep of winter.

Sorry but what you showed in your video is not a quilt. Quilts do have 3 layer for the most part, and the middle section can vary from poly, a poly cotton blend, cotton and even wool. They can nice and warm as well. I think you should have done a bit more research about hand made quilts before making this video
