Hello, our friends and subscribers. I have bags of quikrete plaster; I could not purchase the stucco I generally use in this video, so we improvised.
Personally, I like to use riverside plastic and everyday bags.
Or Eisenwall mixed with three times the sand per one part hydraulic plaster.
• Sand and cement stucco... . Sand and stucco ratio for applying consistency how much in the description.
And or a few other types of stucco, as I was forced to go to a hardware store instead of my professional plastering yard.
We picked up some quikrete, but it’s a more common plaster for strength.
It does not spread very well.
Thus I picked up some additional lime to add to it.
When I apply plasters, I prefer to use skills rather than strength when applying them any day.

Hey Kirk- 1:20 am as I watch a lot of your videos and trying to solve a huge dilemma. I’ve been in UK for last 28 years and wording is proving to be a problem in the rendering of block walls , etc. Everything is very different to what I’m used to. Plasticizer , render , skim - ppl look at me like I’m foreign. Then product association is just gone out the window. You’d think possibly items would be the same all around the world. Just finding bulk sands in different course types - got to be kidding... People here in Carolina look at me like I’m asking for a pink flying elephant 😉. I’m pretty lost atm and as a high end landscaper, not nice place to be 40 years into the business with award winning gardens in UK. So your videos after scrolling , ummm -some-( a lot ) of wanna be plasterers giving bad advice is a huge help. Just watched a guy plastering with his hands .WHAT!!! Anyhow -It’s horrible feeling like your just starting over again 🤔🙏. Regards CJ

Atta Boy T mare Dude, you can do it. Tip, when anyone starts to apply cement plaster at first, there are muscles in your forearm, wrist and deltoid and shoulders that you more than likely didn’t know existed. These muscles are rarely used in everyday living. Thus they will feel like they are on fire or swell up when you start to apply plaster, no worries, this is an excellent sign of unused and still weak muscles, not hurt muscles. then when that beautiful pain is gone, begin again. Your wrist, forearms or shoulders will burn, but that's o.k. For the average person, it takes a week or two to get those unused muscles strong enough to move mud where you want it. FYI, if you fall off a bike and hurt your leg, that's a bad pain or soreness, to strengthen muscles you didn’t know you had, this creates a beautiful soreness. I have 100 year old concrete block/ cinder block on an interior foundation. The mortar fell out and I'm looking to re-mortar. I got all the sides cleaned out. I was going to use Type N Mortar, but now after doing some more reading I'm not so sure. Some fellow said to mix up Lime with barely any Portland. I don't want to do damage to the old blocks so just trying to figure out what to use, maybe pick your brain. Thanks if you have any info! Take care Kirk!

Love your videos. Professional filming. Up here in Santa Barbara we have a 1929 structure made of nothing but terracotta. Inside and out. Over the decades the old non-reinforced terracotta is melting-due to our wetter (humid) climate of today. We have been dealing with efflorescence forever it seems. That leads to a de-bonding of any sort of paint work on the terra-cotta which had a stucco coat over it. For repairs I’m scrapping all the loose stuff off and then applying a pinkish bonding agent, and after 24 hrs I use stucco patch. Blending that stuff is some what difficult. Would adding some measured amount of lime to that stucco patch make it a little more creamy to work with? I don’t want to be experimenting like putting plaster over that stucco. By the way, this is for my interior walls. Or, as an alternative, put a binding agent on that entire wall and then go over it with top coat? Ideas? Many thanks. Keep filming. We all appreciate the work you do.

Hi Edgy, the pink, "Plaster Weld" is made by Larsons and indeed used only for interior use. Clean your walls as best as possible and apply a lime plaster such as Diamond or Imperial finish over any bad area, or even a complete walls. If prepped properly that should last forever. The diamond or Imperial are both easily found at any plastering yard. Both are made by USG, these lime plasters are not affected by interior moisture but should not be used for exterior use. HD says they have it, most don't, so don't spin your wheels, Goole plastering yards near me such as Westside Building Materials, they sell it.👨🏻‍🏫

When I find that a product is skimping on the quality, I use another and don't go back to that product which will usually stay at a low level. I can mention top of the line products that stand the test of time and also mention the ones that were once great, but neither me or any of the 30 stucco and or plastering contractors would use if they gave them to us for free, It's a vicious world out their. Kirk, I am asking you this question because in your long experience you may have come across my situation and may possibly have the answer as you may have worked with men who could answer my question but are long dead by now. I would like to know the formula that was used to mix the mortar that was used for bedding wall tile in shower stalls circa 1936. I am replacing a pan in a shower stall that was built in 1936. I had to remove 3 course of wall tile in the process. It appears that the walls were built with a scratch coat of Portland cement and sand over rib lath and that each tile was individually buttered and set with a mortar that is approximately 1 1/4 thick, set and plumed against the scratch coat; the mortar is very white in color and hard. I built a mock-up with a scratch coat of mortar on wire lath to practice setting the tile the in the same way as well as testing the mortar. I have tried mixing type "O" and Type "K" mortars. which do work but are impractical to use because of the slow setting time. I am sure they used something different to set tile like that. Did they use quick lime and sand?

Hey Kirk, first I want to say your videos are extremely helpful, as I am stuccoing my own house that I bought last year. Unfortuntaley I encountered an injury (not serious) and could not complete the finish coat I was working on. It's a small section of the wall above a window (5ft by 1ft). The rest of the wall has been floated except that section and it's too dry to wet and attempt to float. Do you have a suggestions as to how to go about fixing this for me ? The rest of the wall is a sand finish and therefore this section looks very out of place and clearly unfinished. I would appreciate any advice that you may have.

Howdy Ava, if it's a color finish, no color will blend it without visible notice when it dries except crystal white, however wet the wall well then apply your new color as close as possible, when dry if it blends in you have achieved the impossible. If it's not painted easy to finish do the above steps, Live long and Plaster Kirk and son Jason giordano's teaching videos

Hi! Appreciate your knowledge and sharing. Your videos are very helpful. Is it possible to put lime inside of a van. I have a sprinter van that I am turning into a camper van. It has wood panelling covered by a foam material. I was thinking I could put lime over the material? Or should I remove the material and put the lime mixture directly on the wood? It would be so nice to get the benefits of lime in such a small space.

No, my friend no lime plaster of any kind, it will crack like an egg the first block you drive. What you can do is what I did to my bedroom, I used a nail brad gun and nailed up wood cedar, the super thin stuff that is used to keep bugs out of drawers and closets, you can get it at home depot,. The smell of this cedar wood is just as good. Just don't varnish it or say goodby to the beautiful real smell of fresh wood. It too has health benefits. Oh, wait, it can't be seen thus that can't be true. 🤔 You will know it if you walk by it at any of the HD store as the smell is nature at its best and last for so many years, usually red and tan and so cool looking. 😉

Howdy Mr. Virginia, you can use about 20 different stucco's on the inside, however, I would recommend the waterproof stucco that Home-Depo sells, I have not used it as I have no reason to do so, but you may be interested to know CMU block is porous, thus the waterproof stucco may be your choice of stucco.😉

Hi Kirk, you mention 3 sand to 1 cement for Render, but how much lime would you add if needed ?

  • @StuccoPlastering

    @StuccoPlastering

    7 жыл бұрын

Howdy my friend, I would not add any lime as I can apply or spread any cement plaster material that can be spread, "just plain practice" but for the folks who may have an issue with say applying cement plaster or common cement plaster I would add a shovel of lime for extra separability, per mixer full. FYI, Lime and or plastics are basically the the same, lime cost more so the powers that be came up with a solution for lime costs they call plastics which make the cement plaster more spreadable. cheers, kir giordano plastering
