She's a Tanuki, and I thought that was really cool because in Japanese culture Tanuki have a slightly mythological side to them kind of like foxes (kitsune). In Japanese folklore and mythology Tanuki are tricksters and can shapeshift

The two friends are Tanooki and a Kitsune, these animals were known to shapeshift in Japanese lore/mythology. Which was really cool when they put in the mythology into this show :D

The Good: Great visuals Amazing character design Amazing worldbuilding Really unique, political premise Diverse characters Some interesting plot ideas The Bad: -Too many plot points at once -Direction feels kind of weak at the start, not much really happens which is weird considering the limited amount of episodes -Closing all of the plot points at once made them all feel underwhelming in the end (The Church was such a great idea, but Nazuna being revealed as the leader so soon was a bit weak imo) -Very predictable at times (Ogami's identity, Alan) -Sometimes the allegories were a bit on the nose (WW2 with concentration camps) Overall a very enjoyable anime but it leaves me wanting more episodes and more focus on one or two plot points that tie together instead of so many weaker ones. Considering Netflix often renews shows, and seeing as this one is really popular, I'm expecting a Season 2 down the line. I can't wait for them to explore the worldbuilding a bit more

Nazuna felt more like a puppet queen than an actual authority. But, they handled the plot of her being abused and manipulated in a way that made every scene with Boris unpleasant. And I knew it worked, because he's supposed to be someone we hate. He molded an impressionable youth into a shallow parody of her true self, claimed to be acting for the good of the world and for the girl he was manipulating, when in fact he was only in it for himself. And I felt bad for Nazuna, especially with how fan treatment of her is basically victim blaming. Her learning to break free from the cycle of abuse is so empowering, "My name isn't Deesse Louve, my name is...NAZUNA!!!" is my favorite moment, as it felt so cathartic, even though it would be even more cathartic if Nazuna discovered she had pyrokinesis, and tested it out by burning Boris to ash.

I mostly agree. The best part of the show was just the characters interacting and the fight scenes. I feel like in a different setting where it was more of a slice-of-life show like Komi for example it would flourish much more (also if they introduced less stuff cause they bit off more than they can chew). My biggest pet peeve with the show is Nazuna though. She had so much potential, especially with how dicey her and Michiru's relationship gets. I was wondering if they could ever be friends again especially after their powers caused such a divide. But near the end, they just become best friends again out of nowhere. The whole entire show just feels like they cut out entire episodes in between explaining more of the stuff happening cause a lot of it just comes out of nowhere.

Its odd how im the complete opposite when it comes to Beastars and BNA, i had a good time with both series and even though the ending of Beastars was mire satisfying, i would rather see more BNA because i enjoyed it more

@@jordanreid2116 you dont learn who silverwolf is a little bit later, and even then theres a lot of questioning as to whether or not he's even real. They do give a few hints that he is silverwolf early on, but even if it's easy to guess it's still a spoiler.

Honestly, this show had so much potential. It’s got 10/10 world building, characters, character design, art style, etc. Only part this show fell short was the story. That’s why a season 2 would totally help this show

Of fr. I really did hate her. Like there wasn’t really an excuse for her to act like a dick like that? When michiru tried to help her, she could have just explained shit and said, yo I’m fine calm yo shit. Not just let it unfold just to go all snarky afterwards with the “you just assume things on your own” acting ridiculously superior and looking down at her friend. Like bro I hated her so much. Never once was she genuinely kind. I mean you can argue that when she helped a kid at the end, that it was her being kind, but it was questioned later on if she only did it because she knew there were cameras at her. I dunno sorry for the spoiler for anyone reading this without seeing the show, but man i just cannot stand her. Every time she was on the screen i was hoping she would be the villain just so she could fuck off and get her ass whooped. Not a good friendship, toxic af, and she was definitely borderline psycho with a god complex.

I think theirs a deeper story in her character. At first I was really annoyed with her character. And then I realized her story is very similar to the corruption and manipulation of child actors in today's world. Many children in entertainment industry are exploited and manipulated to be controlled by adults for their own gain. They are promised to be idols for others and change the world for good. Where the truth is exploitation and people in charge pulling the strings for their own gain. Regardless of what happens to the well being of that child. Natsuna is under age and easily exploited with her desire to become famous. Child stars are adored and mass public eat them up. Like Hannah Montana for example to Miley Cyrus transformation. Instead of remaining under the spell of her manipulators. She breaks free of the manipulation choosing to trust in her friend. As a child that takes a great deal of strength and courage. As shown in scene where she tells Boris in bedroom that he is creepy and to go away. It speaks to a message of child predators. And it can be difficult to escape. But Natsuna was able to break away from them and also build a career for herself at such a young age once she broke away

Radditz770 it’s definitely not a spoiler for people who don’t know anything about the show, but it pretty much spoils a lot of the plot and mystery in it once you’re a couple episodes into the series, so I wouldn’t say it’s only “a spoiler for people who’ve seen it through” like you did. Although it’s pretty obvious that Shirou is the silver wolf from the get go Still a good series even if you have been spoiled :)

If everyone who liked anthro characters was a furry, it would be a meaningless distinction since very few people actively dislike ALL use of the. Warner Bros. and Disney made a lot of money off of them, and people don't go around accusing Disney fans of being furries. Some furries would even call them "casuals."

I didn't get why she didn't turn human more often. The "oh I like this form" was a bit cheap, just to have her like that. She said she could turn back but never did it only for that one episode. Why even go looking for a cure when you can just turn human, she spends more time as an animal than actual beastmen.

I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling this way. I was surprised when it was the baseball episode that turned out to be my favorite. Usually, I'm not a fan of the baseball episode. I think something this show failed at was trying to do everything at once. It set up so many things, they never delivered on. *Spoilers from here on* The Beastman vs Human conflict was barely explored while it seemed like it was going to be the main part of the plot. I wasn't a fan of the final battle at all. For some reason, they went with a shonen battle, which didn't fit the anime. The Main Character also just stood there while the battle took place, which goes against what she has been saying the whole time, that she can't just sit by idly and wait. The main villain was also pretty lame in my opinion. Didn't really have much of a motivation in my eyes, he just seemed there for an "epic final battle"

Honestly, i feel like that if most beastmen hated humans, why didn’t they wipe out most of the population Millennia ago to become the dominant species of their world? Because without general weaponry, humans are no match for beastmen.

I agree with some of your points, but it seems to be pretty obvious as to why Michiru didn't get involved in the final battle. It was literally a battle of two gods, which Michiru wouldn't have been able to help Shirou in even with her powers. Besides, she technically helped already, since her blood managed to cure Alan of the frenzy disease he got(forgot the actual name of it). Also, I agree that Alan was pretty lame, but it was spelled out for us what his motivation was: Superiority. He thought he was superior to the other beastmen because he was a pureblood, which was why he wanted to destroy them all.

Alan's motivation reveal in the final episode was very strange. It would have made far more sense if he was a human and was just wanting to get rid of the beastmen, as that was the entire set-up. But no, Instead, he's an actual beast man - a god - *and* he's just against pure bloods (???). The reasoning made no sense and left me scratching my head. I really liked his character and design up to that point, so the reveal was very strange and not satisfying.

I assume anime was originally supposed to be longer, but something happened. Like, i mean, first 6 episodes are pretty slow progressing And then in next 6 they dump all the characters, story arcs and facts on our head, and ending just slapped on top of it. Story also falls apart after this dump, like they rewritten it to fit into 12 episodes instead of 24, hm.

Honestly the only problem that I have now from watching this is the pacing. Would’ve worked a lot better as a 24 episode so we can see Anima city a lot more and get more clues about what’s happening

I enjoyed the show, but the finale was kinda stupid, like the villain was probably the biggest let down of the show. The villain's plan is kinda dumb, which was disappointing because the way he went about executing the plan was kinda brilliant.

I hated how the chairman went to human to Godzilla with no build up to that point and there’s even a point where he tries fire bull(an animal drink) and says he does not like it, but I guess all anime must have a stupid dragon ball z fight that doesn’t even need to happen

Honmestly him being a pure beastman was the only part I hated. I'd have preferred if he was either an enhanced human, via augmentation or stolen beastman powers, or that one creepy goat Beastman we see in Ogami's flashbacks. Having him just be "Aha, but what if racial purity? :^)" was... kind of dumb

In summary, for the series to be better, it had to have more episodes because everything happened too fast. hopefully in season 2 they have more episodes

Spoilers (Small Rant) When I started this show I was excited to see a more "modern" world and how everything with the beastmen fit into that. Like how Michiru went from human to beastman; I was like is there a whole mystery behind this? Is there a hidden gene in humans? Did a beastman do this in order to destroy human society? Actually it was just a weird blood transfusion that altered DNA which is not actually possible.......so I was pretty disappointed by that to say the least :( And I don't mind big boss fights and all that stuff but having giant wolves that are just basically shooting lazers was a bit much for what a expected to see starting this show. Plus don't even get me started on Michiru's friend...she made me so mad, like your friend is trying to help you and reconnect you don't have to be so mean (And it all ended up basically swept under a rug anyway...) Long story short I totally agree that this needed to be longer. Characters weren't even much development or much personality. Like I couldn't even guess what Michiru was going to do/react because I didn't understand what drove her half of the time. And I think that the world building could have been done a lot better. Like a lot of cool stuff was introduced but kinda just dropped/forgotten by the next episode. Rant is over now! I needed to vent a bit after just finishing this

Well, Nazuna was told that she was doing what's right, that she earned it all, so the fame got to her head, and she was told to doubt the intentions of anyone who questions the legitimacy of the Church, and her relationship with Boris. Plus, Michiru's trauma response is "protect everyone, even at the cost of my safety. Especially Nazuna.", and Nazuna's is, "you worked hard for this, now earn it." She got out of that toxic mindest, thankfully.

Honestly, if they do make a second season, I'd like to see it become a slice of life show about humans and beast men are trying to live together and just how they work when coexisting

in chinese lore, a lot of animals or demons , similar to yokai, generally come from animals and generally may have affinity for magic including transforming/shape shifting. She does a lot in the show that I can't say, but for those who wonder how a tanuki can do that....the hint is within herself which is revealed later in the show...

I really liked the fact that Michiru and the pink one were both animals with mythological, shape-shifting variants.

BNA should've been 24 episodes long. It had so much potential. The aesthetic and the feeling was amazing, and I think all of it was amazing up to the last episode where everything kinda went ... meh.

Spoilers: For me I kinda wish the final conflict Alan was a godly human and was the perfect opposite to silver wolf. Like Alan was an imortal human having the blood of thousands of humans infused with him while ginrou had the blood of thousands of beastmen infused in him. And as dark as It sounds but I wish Alan's main plan was to make beastmen a permanent enemy of the human race and eradicate them all.

I get where your coming from but it wouldn't make sense in the world. Humans have never been said to have any special abilities and we can assume that's part of the prejudice. They aren't super strong fast etc, so for one of them to get some shounen power boost would break the world building

@@kylekgh True and if you thnk about it they'd br parallels not opposites, they are opposites now, they have similar powers and one uses them to protect beatmen while the other one is trying to destroy them, one was born with them and the other was granted them by a twist of destiny.

I just finished this, and I have to say I loved it. It might be my favorite show. It looks amazing, the characters are adorable, and the concept is interesting. I just wish it was longer. It seemed to have ended so suddenly. I loved the Baseball episode as well!

My biggest issue was the lack of a proper structure, many ideas laid down, but resolved really quickly and not letting them mature or develop...not to mention the saving power of Awoo in the end xD

I loved this show, but I agree that it was ended way too quickly. I hope they make a longer second season, maybe following what happens if they let humans enter and what may happen if evil humans get in. I really want there to be more to this show.

It's not even a hard name to pronounce, either. They say her name correctly multiple times, both in the Japanese and English dubs, and there was even a point in the show where she literally spells her name out and pronounces it correctly. Was kinda irked by the fact that Saber wasn't able to pronounce her name correctly even despite it being said so damn much in the show, and I don't even know Japanese.

Having watched both "Beastars" & "BNA", what hit me much later afterwards is that both shows in part reminded me of NBC's "Grimm" (2011-2017), as I was just re-binging it recently: In the world of "Grimm" there's a wide range of anthropomorphic creatures called 'Wesen', with individual species resembling specific animals, who live in society disguised as regular humans. However they can briefly shed their human appearance depending their emotional state and/or when the enforce it (similar to BNA's beastmen). The lore is that their interactions with humans shaped mythology & folklore all over the world, such as f.ex. the fairy tales of Brothers Grimm. The main character Nick is the titular "Grimm", from a lineage of humans with special abilities, such as being able to see through a Wesen's disguise much quicker. Discovering his abilities & heritage, they both influence Nick's work as a cop & his personal life. Different themes explored throughout "Grimm'"s runtime do share with the other two: - Wesen personalities & actions are often informed by the species they resemble (timid mice, ferocious dogs/wolves, cunning foxes etc.); partially as a shorthand for character development, perhaps, but the series also explores interaction between different types of Wesen such as power struggles, interspecies marriage, exploitation, species-based crime syndicates & hate groups, as well as Wesen using their abilities to harm/exploit humans; a lot of the crimes featured in the series are due to the involvement of or interactions between Wesen. - but then it also features Wesen who try to break the mold like the main character Monroe (a wolf-wesen) who is a friendly vegetarian, and becomes both an "ambassador" & best friend to Nick. - At the same time, Nick's heritage carries somes heavy weight as well, since Grimms have become known as the bogeymen to Wesen, due to their history of hunting/killing Wesen & studying them, both good & bad, under the guise of protecting humans. Being a cop first however gives him a different perspective, which leads to him building up a more positive relationship to the Wesen communities in some respect. Throughout the series he builds up a larger roster of friends & allies - human, Wesen & Grimms - who all interact with each other in his fight against whatever antagonistic forces he's up against. If you haven't watched the series - I can recommend it to anyone who might enjoy a police procedual drama combined with dark mystery, lots of anthro creatures & a slice of B-movie cheese (2 of the co-creators were involved in creating Buffy & Angel, to paint a picture) + lots of funny mistranslations/mispronounciations if you're German :D

“Ate a big meal but was still hungry by the end” is the perfect description for how I felt by the end too.

Okay everyone is talking about how he revealed that what’s his face (his name just fuggin left me) was Silver Wolf but like, did no one know that from the beginning? Like, my guy looked blue on the building, his half transformation is blue-ish, He said something about wanting this for a 1000 years when we were first introduced, and he was literally sus the whole time. I just thought this was common knowledge from ep 1...

BNA reminded me of Promare, a full movie by Studio Trigger: beautiful design, really cool story idea, interesting themes, and an “uh...what” ending. Yeah. Honestly, when I was watching it, I was thinking there was going to be a twist in which it was revealed that the main character and her friend were in fact beastmen to begin with, but their parents were giving them medication from Sylvasta Pharmaceutics to suppress their beastmen powers (for example, them not being able to transform). I was thinking that their near-death-experience might've triggered their beastmen abilities. The direction the show took made logically sense (it involving blood transfusion), but it felt emotionally dead to me.

I feel like the writers of BNA knew how to do a very good job of setting up themes and building a world, but didn't know how to develop it. For example the episode about Rabbit Town, they set a theme about how some people had to do beastmen trafficking for a living, but then Michiro threw their plans away, the gang was arrested, and the theme dropped And there were another things that made no sense, for example Shiro telling Michiro to try and not show her powers to the public and her agreeing, but then she went to the baseball games showing her transformation abilities, and no one thinking that she was a goddamn freak; or for example the episode when Michiro went to the human city with the dolphin girl, the part where they put her in a tank full of water and then Michiro went and freed her while the others just stared, made absolutely no sense to me But on the other hand, things like the backstory of how Michiro and her friend accidentally transformed into beastmen and that caused them to go separate ways and end up really different while causing the guys of the medical center to freak out and plant bombs to cover themselves I really liked (Even tho the whole thing about Michiro and her friend ending up different and that was magically fixed for the final episodes and they went back to being best friends again) So, to finish of this rant, I think that this show was like a wave. It started going upwards with good themes and world building, but then it dropped down with faulty logic and unsatisfactory conclussions, and then just rinse and repeat for the 12 episodes... but I would totally watch it again, ngl

Can i just ask you to edit her name to Michiru not michiro, Its like its punching me in the eyes, and from what sylvasta said, they became beastman beccause of an accident, and after noticing they took nazuna but they didnt know that michiru was the one who got the second bloodbag and (i think) they realized it too late (also bloodbags drain superslow, personal experience)

Nazumi and Michiru's relationship was annoying. Michiru would join Nazumi and Nazumi was like sure and used her to get her cult into the city. Michiru was sad but forgave minutes later. I get you want to be a pop idol but how was pretending to be a God a good idea at all? How did nobody in anima city question this teenage girl and test her knowledge? They were in awe regarding her transformation but didn't say anything about Michiru transforming. I'm just ranting.

I honestly loved this show so much. It was so creative with the story, city, characters, everything. Like SaberSpark said..it was very rushed. But for me it lands the spot as my favorite anime. I’m a Marie stan for life :D

I think the reason that its so short is because it is more of an experiment of sorts to see if it was well recieved. Im sure with how well everyone recieved it there will most likely be a season 2.

It is kinda obvious, but it's certainly nice to have your suspicions slowly confirmed as well. Like you know it is him, but is it? Especially with how the series throws a tinge of doubt to that possibility.

I agree the story is very unfulfilling, and I wish there was more closure at the end, it felt that they started a lot of plot threads but didn't want to finish it halfway. It's good tho, it's that the first half it's building up so we'll to be just good at the other half se we are left disappointed Also the pacing being so fast is like a trigger staple tho, every episode of kill la kill felt like 5 normal episodes of anime lmao.

I have to agree. One major thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was the relationship between her and her friend (whom I somehow forgot the name of). She treated her like garbage, did a lot of bad things, and then just? Totally got away free of consequences? Idk her character seemed very 1 dimensional and toxic.

@@jittercritter that is what happens when two friends are with diferent opinions combined with diferent personalities. Michiru is active and impulsive while Nazuna is more naive and full of herself. It's like getting a cat and a dog and put them in water, one enjoys it the other don't, both have reasons and instincts/emotions that might not be the same.

@@alita8900, I do not think the VAs for Michiru and Kipo are the same. Karen Fukuhara voiced Kipo and Glimmer in SPOP at around the same time (both of their recent seasons were released in early 2020), so I doubt she had enough time to voice a third character at the same time. Also, it seems like Karen Fukuhara is mostly just working with DreamWorks right now.

Also noted, you can like something without the implications given by other people for liking said thing. I always loved cartoons with bipedal animals as a kid because they're interesting, but I'm not a furry myself. I think the main thing is to never assume, never judge. If everyone took that to heart, we could all get along better. Having said that, the main character is too adorable. The art style in BNA is just so good...

Is it me, or is Netflix trying to tell us something?

To be honest I think that the biggest problem of BNA is that it's just too short. I really enjoyed it but everything was happening so fast. It would be so much better if the show would have 24 episodes.

Imo the story was great but the pacing wasn’t. As if it were supposed to be a 24 ep season squeezed down into a 12 ep one

The beginning made it look so good, I thought it would be about her TRYING to make it anima city but instead it was literally everything else

I actually liked the pacing in BNA. this time Trigger spaced the story evenly so that it didn't feel extremely rushed at any one point, but got through the whole story arc in the time allotted. I'm looking at you Darling in the Franxx

Nathan Pendergrast what I also liked was the Characters didn’t behaved Over the Top all the Time like at many of Triggers Animes. The BNA Character where more likable and not as Annoying than many of their Characters in other Animes

Nathan Pendergrast I think for the Desaster the Ending of Darling in the Franxx was we also can blame A 1. Pictures because it was a Co. Production between Trigger and A 1. Pictures. A 1. Pictures also made Animes like Sword Art Online who is considered by many Anime Fans as a Pretty Bad Anime

@@IcidLink huh...SAO novel itself went bland already too lol. But for some fricken reason it's super popular. Fortunately its spin off GGO (Gun Gak Online is way better) well, just curious... What about SSSS Gridman? Another trigger collab with Tsubuyara Gridman anime, which I heard was also decent (and more better waifus)

tbh i really enjoyed the show visually and also character-wise, i do think the story’s pacing was a bit too fast. i do wish that it had been longer for maybe 23 eps because i got so invested with the premise and i wanted to learn more lore about the beastmen and how their relationships were with the humans! it couldve had a bit more punch if they expanded it but it was still a fun show in the end 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a feeling that there will be a second half. Most of the anime from Trigger have been 24ish episodes long. Too me it felt intentionally disjointed at the end of episode 12. Like they are hinting at something more.
