Quick Start Your Indian Chief, No Need to Wait

I think people worry too much about how long the digital dash takes to start up on the Indian Chief. In this video I show you why this is really not an issue.

Well timed video. I just saw a video about how long it takes the ride command to start up. Made it seem like you couldn't get on with the ride without the ride command finishing up it's boot up

Now that’s a good point about digital displays. It is a bit of an odd quirk though isn’t it that the display has that delay. You’ve made me appreciate my old analogue v strom even more! Mind you, I still wait for the revs to settle down to below 1,500 rpm before engaging first gear and moving off. Takes maybe 15 secs or so.

Yep, if the bike is cold I always let it warm up before taking off. But after re-reading the manual last night, Indian even recommends that you allow the bike to idle for 30 seconds if the bike is warm before putting it into gear. I will make another video to make that clear. For this video I just wanted to show that the display boot up time doesn't interfere with you taking off and riding.

Your chief starts the same as mine. As for the start up procedure the booting up of the gauge can take awhile but your regime is similar to mine you just adapt.

As I'm very new to this bike, what is the starting procedure for the Indian chief dark horse ? I would love to know from A-Z like inserting a key etc 😊

No key needed Seltun. As long as you have your remote key fob with you, the process is exactly as you see in this video.

It's kinda sad to think that people complain that it takes too long for a motorcycle to run a diagnostic check when turned on. It takes longer to put on your helmet and gloves then start a motorcycle.

Same, as any other bike. Never let a bike warm up when you're standing. It's pure poisen for the engine.

@@BarnettSpeedSuzukiThou Because, the longer your bike is running cold, the more the engine wears out. When the engine ist running without burdening ( is that the right word? Sorry for my english, I'm from Germany) the longer it stays cold. Just drive the first 3-4 miles with low RPM. Your bike will love you for that.

I don't think this is good advice. Always follow the manufacturers instructions laid out in the owner's manual and those instructions will vary from bike to bike. In the case of my Indian Chief it says... "Do not rev the engine or put the transmission in gear immediately after starting the engine. Allow the engine to idle for about 30 seconds after a warm start or at least one minute after a cold start (longer in colder weather). This will allow oil to reach all areas before the engine is put under load." I just learned something there. I knew I had to warm the bike when the engine is cold but I didn't realise I should also let it idle for 30 seconds before putting it into gear and taking off, even though the engine is already warm. I will make a video to correct my error.

Definitely do what the manufacturer says in the owners manual Barnett. I just re-checked mine and it says... Allow the engine to idle for about 30 seconds after a warm start or at least one minute after a cold start (longer in colder weather). This will allow oil to reach all areas before the engine is put under load." I just learned something there.
