It sucks at this ONE thing...Indian Sport Chief Likes & Dislikes

Indian sent me a 2023 Sport Chief a while back and I had the pleasure of running it through the paces. Here are the top things I dislike about the bike and a few things I really dig about it. Enjoy!

It's legal in Arizona!! Lane splitting it is not filtering, the cars have to be still while lane splitting and has to be less then speed limits but not on freeways.. that's what I read when I saw new motorcycle laws by state.. check again just to be sure

Demo one a week ago and there was a lot to like. I would go with the Icon as that color rocks. I would need forwards, taller screen and some sort of storage to really make it work for me. Clutch is butter smooth. 4th gear and up is where the fun is. That 116 is a good looking motor and plenty of power. Don’t like the way it whines when first started. It’s not a Harley. But it could be my next ride 🤔

I’ve been looking to pick up a bike. I’ve been looking the Indian sport chief new, and a used 2021 low rider S with 1,400 miles and a 2014 breakout 103 with only 677 miles for $14k…. I like the way the Indian and the low rider handle but man that breakout is beautiful and practically like new for only $14k

I had a triumph thunderbird a few years back (it was a quick flip). I thoroughly enjoyed ripping that bike around town. The parallel twin personality was unique compared with the vtwin. It's been a while so hard to say how they would compare side to side. The new motorcycles feel very different with so much new technology.

Sport Chief was a huge letdown for me : I excitedly went to the indian demodays here, and the bike I wanted to ride the most was the sport chief. Everyone said it was better than my fat boy. But It was a big let down. It's very uncomfortable for my short arms and torso. The power felt gutless even on sport mode. Stopping power felt bad. Throttle mapping is SO WEIRD on it, it feels like a suggestion. That mini fairing wiggled so much on the freeway and around town too. I even made sure to ride 2 different sport chiefs just to make sure the first one wasn't like... messed up or something. I wanted to like this bike so bad, but its so uncomfortable and It's performance is disappointing. It made my fat boy with an SE cam feel like a precision built monster. I wish they had done a powerplus chief, and not this, because the Scout is SICK and I loooved it. The scout was the best bike for me at the demo day.

  • @JonsMotoGarage

The throttle is definitely not my favorite on these new bikes, but not unique to Indian for me. I didn't have any fairing issue and was impressed with the breaking from my time on the bike. However, I don't have an m8 to compare with so perhaps that would change. Good hearing from you! 💯🤙

"Sport Chief" is an oxymoron, and just plain stupid. The "Chief" is supposed to be a large touring bike, comparable to a Harley Street Glide or Road Glide, only better looking, with a better looking fairing, and that big Indian front fender. The Chief that Polaris made in 2014 is what it should be. It should also be available in actual colors, not flat black primer. Polaris is messing up big time again, just like they did with Victory. Hopefully they will drop Indian, someone else will buy the name (yet again) and maybe get it right and keep it right. If I wanted an Indian, I would build one from parts from Kiwi Indian.

Yeah the chief is supposed to be like a street bob or fat boy. The chieftain is supposed be comparable to a street glide (a touring bike). Polaris is doing great with Indian. The sales prove that also there are a bunch of different colors for the sport chief and that is comparable to the low rider s. This isn't an option it's facts. I can tell you don't know much about Indian at all but hey most people Bark bark bark about things they don't know about all the time and then swear they are right about what they said so I'm just beating a dead horse with this comment.
