Quick rebuild of a NOS Rochester 4-Jet, 4G, 4GC carburetor

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Happy New Year everyone.
In this video, I overhaul that "new in the box" 1959 Chevrolet Rochester 4-Jet carburetor I picked up in an estate sale this past summer. I did a quick video on overhauling it, but showed the adjusting of everything, with the special tools Kent Moore supplied to GM dealers for overhauling carburetors. That was an era when mechanics repaired components....
I am keeping this carburetor as a spare for my 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air's 348. I am selling the other one, with a 283 Power Pac intake for $950 (both in past videos, links below), though you must pick it up, as I am not going to ship it! I will sell the Ward's snowblower you might see in the background for $200. I will be selling the chain saws after going threw them.
Here is a link to my two hour in-depth video of rebuilding a Rochester 4 barrel, aka 4-Jet, 4GC, 4G, thats for sale with a 283 Power Pac intake; • Rebuilding a Rochester...
Restoring the 1960 Power Pac 4 barrel square bore intake manifold thats for sale with a carburetor; • Clean up plus painting...
Here is a link to my in-depth video of rebuilding a Rochester 2 barrel, aka 2-Jet, 2GC, 2G, thats for sale; • Rebuilding a GM Roches... I still have this carburetor for sale at $250. I will ship the 2 barrel carburetor, as it is already boxed, due to a non paying buyer.
If you liked my video, definitely hit the thumbs up icon.

What a gem too have a Delco Remy 4 jet nos! I'm just getting into my first one for a friend wanting to sell her 60 Impala 4 door hardtop. It's a driver and a California car but an older paint job. Super solid but needs a lot of love to be really nice. It's a complete runner and driver which is a great start.

Yeah, I have a bunch of other carb adjustment gauges somewhere.... I found the 2GC gauges, but I have them for a bunch of other brands and types carburetors also. I bought them at an auction back in the 90's from a carb rebuild shop that closed up, due to fuel injection doing away with carburetors. I bought a ton of carburetors and kits, but sold most of them over the years.

If I ever need a carb for the Bel Air, I have one. For now it will sit on a shelf, in its box, until I need it...... The one on the car works fine, so who knows, it may sit another 65 years on a shelf.....

Hey Howard thanks for another carburetor rebuild. It's too bad we don't know the history of it and why it remained in its box for 64 years! Anyway did you happen to try the jiffy pop in your pop corn shaker? If not give it a try even if you don't want to eat it! I'm just curious if it worked or not. Anyway have a great new year. Looking forward to the end of winter and getting together with you and Dave and cruising in our '59 Belairs. Take care my friend.

I assume it sat on a dealers shelf, until they realized they had zero use for it. I use to go to car dealers and buy old inventory that they knew wouldn't ever sell in their dealership, often paying pennies on the dollar for the parts. Years ago I would buy all the inventory of a closing dealership, shop, or auto parts store. I use to resell the parts at swap meets or on eBay. I stopped doing it back in the early 2000's, due to it's a lot of work. I often doubled or tripled what I paid for the parts, but the time involved in getting the parts, sorting them, figuring out what they fit, listing them, then boxing and shipping them was a ton of work, then eBay raised the fees for selling, to where over half the profit seemed to get eaten up by their fees, so I quit doing it. Swap meet spaces that use to be around $20 now runs well over $200+.... you got to sell a lot of stuff to make up your space fee. Thats why swap meets are not what they use to be, and why I don't sell at meets anymore. The Jiffy Pop fits the popper, but it's not as deep, being an inch or two from the burner, it may never get hot enough to pop, but I do need to try it anyway. I looking forward to cruising season too, it will be here before you know it. I look forward to the three Bel Air's out cruising. Happy New Year

Hey Howard I was just rewatching a video you made the Wednesday before the 2023 Dream Cruise. I must have missed that '59 Impala convertible at the beginning when I first watched it. Do you know the owner? She looked beautiful. It would be great to meet up with him.

I knew a guy that owned a mint condition red 59 Impala convertible, with a 348 tri power. He passed away about five years ago. I was trying to see if that was the same car with a new owner.... but he left before I could return to that parking lot. Shortly after he passed away, his wife asked me if I was interested in purchasing the 59 Impala convertible. I could not afford it. She was asking $150,000 for it. No doubt it was worth her asking price, maybe more, but thats more than I paid for my house! I do know a couple others that own 59 Chevy's.... Mark has two 59 Impala Sport Sedans, Dave has a 59 El Camino..... both cars are in my past videos. Dave sold his 59 Impala Sport Sedan about three years ago, but it's in a past video or two also. He use to have one of every 59 GM flat tops made. He kept the 59 Cadillac flat top, but sold the rest over the past five years or so. All the 59 GM cars he owned are in my past videos. Dave lives about an hour north of me, but I still see him a few time a year. We have known each other for 60 years now. His dad passed away just before Christmas. I went to the funeral, as he was like a second father to me. He taught me how to paint (on the 59 Bel Air) and gave me my first spray gun and sold me his old air compressor, which I painted the Bel Air with back in 1978. A lot of water has flowers under the bridge since. I might add to one of my videos a story about Dave's dad teaching me how to paint and show the spray gun he gave me, which I still use. It's a very old DeVilbiss that was in rough shape when he gave it to me, though it sprays paint very nicely. It's one of my favorite spray guns, along with my Badger door jamb gun. Dave did get his 59 El Camino running good finally. The rebuilder installed the incorrect camshaft and it had some carburetor issues. I made a video of checking the engine out (a 348 tri power) a few years ago. I told him at the time I thought it was a messed up or incorrect camshaft. @@Martin48964

It would be great to meet your friend Dave. Maybe the 3 of us could drive our Belairs up and visit with him. Or maybe have him come down to your place. I'd love to have a ride in his Cadillac and El Camino. I guess I wasn't to far off when I said that the '59 Impala convertibles were selling for $200,000.00! (I always think in CDN dollars.) I'd also like to see us form a group of '59 Chevy owners! Have them all lined up and take pictures and/or videos. Any luck finding the seatbelts yet? Remember my offer is still good if you need any help when you're redoing the bench seat and installing the belts. Take care.

It's a bit of a drive to Dave's.... maybe just take one car. He comes down more often than I get up his way. Last time he was over this past fall, he drove his 1976 Olds Custom Cruiser station wagon. I haven't even look for seat belts yet. Been working on house projects. The flat part of the roof leaked, causing drywall to come down in the rear bedroom. The roof has since been replaced, and docent leak anymore, so over the Hollidays I replaced the drywall, mudded and sanded it. Ended up painting that bedroom, plus the hall and front bedroom. Also having the flooring replaced in both bedrooms. It's ugly carpet that was here when I purchased the house. The floors are going to be lament as that's what's in the rest of the house. That's being done next week. I hired that out, because the labor cost was much less than expected. Once thats done I have some dental work... crowns to be done. It will be mid to late January or maybe even February before I start work on refoaming the Bel Air's front seat and install seat belts. @@Martin48964

Happy New Year ! What cleaner would you recommend that doesn't harm aluminum?

  • @OldCarAlley

    @OldCarAlley

    6 ай бұрын

Mercury Marine sells a great product called "Power Tune". It will clean all the gum, grease and carbon from the aluminum, though you need to let it soak on the crud for a few hours or overnight. A little toilet bowl cleaner works good on corrosion, but wash it off good with hot water. If you leave it on the carburetor too long, it will destroy it, so be very careful when using it.
