Quick fretless banjo demo (Followers, don't get excited, see note below)

Hey guys, this isn't a real video, sorry!! It's an upload for a history class I'm taking and I couldn't imbed it in the discussion board without making it public, ha, so here it is temporarily. Enjoy, but stay tuned for better vids soon--I promise! You all have been so patient with me! Tunes: “Jubilee”; “Rockingham Cindy”.

Haha!!!! Okay, okay, if you say so 😉
I'm so glad to see new recordings from you.
Thank you, Sarah! I will look to you in the future for encouragement to learn "two finger" and fretless. 🙏
It has a somber and warmth that intrigues Big Thumb 👍🆙🌹❤️😘
Welcome back Sarah. Ref an earlier comment, it IS good to see some basic two finger picking. I've been playing some myself on my American Civil War fretless (Little Birdie). The beauty is not to overplay, like your demo. Leaving plenty of spaces allows a simple vocal melody to shine through, or just pick unaccompanied. I learned this from Martin Carthy in England. And he learned it trying to play folk songs on a Telecaster! Bluegrass and frailing are a blast and I love them all, but yea, they're full on. Not always what a banjo was for. I noticed you turning those troublesome friction tuners, tell me about it, I'm never satisfied! But I'm not modernising mine. Heard you can get friction (paste?) to help keep em in place, like fiddles, need to know more.

Ooh, that would make sense! They’re about seven years old now so definitely getting pretty slick... passe could be helpful. I hear you though about not going modern ;-)
Great sound, and great playing !...
I love this!! Leave it up👍 can't wait to hear from ya!!
Well. You just make really good notes no matter what. lol. Always enjoy your stuff.
I hope you upload more videos soon! You're one of my favourite banjo players at the moment

@@mesarah011 No worries! Also do you have any tips for playing fretless banjos? I've just assembled my first minstrel banjo and I'm eager to learn more.

Jay Cobalt I found with this one that, because the neck is much wider than my fretted Reiter, I struggled at first finding the notes spot-on without sliding around. I solved it by identifying which tiger stripes in the wood matched up to which fret until I got used to it and didn’t need to look, but I’d actually recommend putting a little dot of masking tape at each note for ease and clarity. You know, like beginning fiddlers have those paper dots. Once you play with those for a bit and your muscle memory takes over, it becomes second nature.

@@mesarah011 That's great! thank you.
Hi from Canada, I just listened to you sing Darling Cora...I'm surprised you only have a few videos uploaded, I think you are really great, naturel totally unpretentious. Please post more! I'm a big fan of old-time bango
Looks like you've got a tribble on your knee, don't feed it too much quadrotriticale or you'll have trouble! Lovely sounds, BTW, even if it's a fake video :-)
Wow! It looked and sounded real to me! 😜
Is that a clifton hicks inspired jubilee?
