QUICK FIX - How To Fix EVAP Code On Ford Cap-less Car - P0455, P0457 - Explorer, Edge, Fusion

This video demonstrates how to quickly address and fix your p0455 & p0457 codes on a Ford that has the gas cap-less / easy-fuel feature. Only tools you'll need are a funnel that fits in the gas cap (usually located in the spare tire area of your vehicle) and WD-40. The vehicle we worked on is a 2013 Ford Explorer. It had a p0455 & p0457 code. We cleared the debris away from the gas cap inlet with the filter & WD-40 on it. We when cleared the code with our code reader, drove the vehicle about 150 miles, and checked again to see if the code cleared, which it did on our vehicle. If you do not have a code reader, you can disconnect the negative battery for 10-20 minutes then hook it back up and the check engine light should go off.

What this capless technology proves is the necessity of an actual gas cap.
Seems like something the Automotive Mechanics Association lobbied for.
I just went through this. You definitely have to clleaan the rubber seal around the door and on the body in addition to the filler hole

Will the car ever auto clear the code on a 2021 model? I have a 2021 mustang and I did what ford suggested and I don’t have a code clearer.

You can unhook the battery for at least 5-minutes to clear the code. You can also go to AutoZone or Advance. They have code readers.
I have a problem with the 2018, when I pour fuel, the engine has trouble starting and the mint checks.

It could be the purge valve. Check the codes with a code reader if the check engine light is illuminated.
Is there a particular brand to purchase for a code reader that's accurate in diagnosing issues in explorer? Thank you

We use the INNOVA 5210. It's a good basic code reader scanner diagnostic tool - Read/Erase ABS Codes, Live Data, Battery/Charging System Test, iOS and Android. Here is a link on Amazon: amzn.to/4eNBWv2
Capless technology is just a headache
I tried this, and replaced the purge valve but I still have it coming up with the code(about a week later each time) what do I check next?

Aside from a smoke test, you could check the engine air filter. Check the code also to see if it’s a big or small leak.
What happens if I did this and now I can’t pump gas the gas pump doesn’t let me anymore it keeps clicking and only letting me, put barley any please help.

You have a big evap leak like it’s big that’s what happened to my 08 impala should go get that fixed or sell it fast

No it means your vent hose is pinched...check vent hose coming out of gas tank...could be pinched or kinked or a bad vent valve.
wow you gotta be kidding me, they provide a tool to reseal the gas filler, my god I'll stick with my 98 explorer.

Actually, the tool is for adding fuel with a gas can on the side of the road or something, because it has a tamper-proof design so you can siphon gas from it. Having said that, yes, you’re right. The design sucks, and modern Fords are garbage. 😂 This is my first and last Ford.
